The Mechanical Technician program is designed to provide students with the knowledge and skills required to pursue a career as a Mechanical Technician or as an Industrial Mechanic (Millwright). Upon completion graduates will receive an Ontario College Diploma as a Mechanical Technician.

Industrial Mechanic (Millwrights) perform some or all of the following duties: 

• Read blueprints, diagrams and schematic drawings to determine work procedures. 
• Install, align, dismantle and move stationary industrial machinery and mechanical equipment, such as pumps, fans, tanks, conveyors, furnaces and generators according to layout plans using hand and power tools. 
• Operate hoisting and lifting devices to position machinery and parts during the installation, set-up and repair of machinery. 
• Inspect and examine machinery and equipment to detect and investigate irregularities and malfunctions. 
• Install, troubleshoot and maintain power transmission, vacuum, hydraulic and pneumatic systems. 
• Adjust machinery and repair or replace defective parts. 
• Operate machine tools such as lathes, mills and grinders to fabricate parts required during overhaul, maintenance or set-up of machinery. 
• Clean, lubricate and perform other routine maintenance work on machinery.

Highlights
Graduates will also have completed the equivalent of all levels of in-school training required for the Industrial Mechanic (Millwright) Apprenticeship Program and are well-prepared to write the exemption exams required for this trade. Completing the in-school training is attractive to employers who may wish to register you in an apprenticeship program.

St. Lawrence College offers two programs in accounting: Business Administration – Accounting, a three-year program and Business – Accounting, a two-year program. The Business Administration – Accounting program offers students a more intensive background in financial accounting, corporate finance, cost accounting and taxation during the third year.

The first two semesters of most Business programs offer the same curriculum. The curriculum for the remaining semesters in the accounting programs focuses on the areas of accounting and finance.

You begin Marketing with a foundational understanding of business and its disciplines and scaffold your marketing abilities over two years to create value for the marketplace and open doors to marketing opportunities.

Second year courses include integrated marketing communications, brand management, business simulations, data analysis, personal selling, marketing research and entrepreneurship. You become career ready and contribute to an organization with a marketing placement. 

With a holistic approach to career readiness you take part in Emotional Intelligence, and Work Place Big 5 self assessments, career fairs, dining etiquette and intense professional development.  You meet regularly with faculty to review customized development plans to pursue relevant personal goals. 

Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) can affect an individual’s ability to communicate, socialize and function effectively at home, school and in their community. Applied Behaviour Analysis (ABA) can be used to develop new skills including language, social and play skills, self-help skills, academics, motor skills, life skills and appropriate behaviour.

Students in this highly specialized program learn to use a variety of evidence-based approaches to develop the skills of individuals with ASD across the lifespan by reviewing relevant literature, developing intervention plans, implementing programs, and collecting data to ensure intervention strategies effectively meet established goals.

Graduates:

• Understand the characteristics of the full spectrum of ASD and how human development occurs in the neuro-typical population;
• Know the range of evidence-based practices in autism treatment;
• Know how to complete curriculum-based assessments and functional assessments;
• Can plan, implement, and monitor interventions based on these assessment results;
• Know the ethical and professional requirements of working in the field of ABA
• Show leadership in the workplace by contributing knowledge and skills for practical solutions related to the treatment of ASD.

As this is a graduate certificate program, students can expect an intensive workload. Classes combine theory with active learning experiences and group work. Field placements are available in a range of settings and some may require the use of a vehicle.

This program offers field placements that are matched with students' strengths and skill-sets, providing students with practical experience and making them job-ready upon graduation. We offer a two-year program and a three-year option with the first two years being common to all Advertising students. Students in either stream can choose to graduate with the two-year diploma or continue with the third year to explore more deeply the full breadth and scope of integrated marketing communications; a field with strong job prospects across all industries.

The General Arts & Science (Certificate) program offers a foundational year for students preparing for the workforce or for future study. Students in the General Studies stream meet with the program coordinator to customize their program according to their needs and interests. Core courses include communication, computers, applied or social science, personal development, and general education. Complementing these are varied electives such as Film, Addictions, and Fitness. Students can also focus on essential competencies in communications, science and math.

Graduates from our Energy Systems Engineering Technician and Technology (ESET) programs work in exciting new careers as Renewable Energy System Designers and Clean Energy System Project Managers and Installers.  In addition, our graduates have expertise in building energy management and building energy systems, where they find rewarding employment as Energy Managers and Energy Auditors.

Our many successful graduates illustrate how every year, businesses, governments and consumers are becoming more concerned with the financial and environmental costs of energy usage. Our ESET graduates are filling the growing needs of this marketplace for capable people with the knowledge and skills to design and implement renewable energy systems as well as to audit energy use in commercial and residential buildings and make recommendations to reduce energy demand and cost.

This program prepares graduates to work in the growing and dynamic field of business analytics. Students will learn the techniques and tools of analytical decision making and utilize these skills to drive the competitiveness of an organization. Students will be exposed to generic analytics modeling as well as courses in the areas or marketing, operations, and business strategy. Students will also be introduced to machine learning and artificial intelligence concepts, and, how to use supervised and unsupervised learning techniques to solve real-world problems. Through applied learning techniques such as problem-based learning and work placement students will be able to apply their learning to real-world problems.

Business Analytics experts are currently in high demand, especially with the opportunity to leverage high volume and variety of data, available in today’s digital world, to support business strategy, enhance customer experience, and, solve real-life problems in real-time.

This program prepares students to work in many different legal environments including law offices, government agencies and ministries, legal clinics, financial institutions, and various business enterprises. Our three-semester curriculum provides a solid foundation in legal procedures and substantive law ap­plicable to authorized areas of work for a law clerk. Emphasis is placed on property law, civil litigation, family law, criminal law, wills and estates, legal research and writing, and business law. Students become familiar with office procedures relating to the production of legal documents and specialized legal software programs. A four-week work place­ment provides students with an opportunity to enhance their classroom experience with practical work experience and exposure to potential employers.
 
A major objective of the program is to develop law clerks who are able to complete independent legal work as part of a team supporting lawyers in the day-to-day routine of their practice. In addition, the combina­tion of business and law subjects provides a strong foundation for career choices in other settings that offer services which apply law to specific interests. Recent employment situations of this type have included real estate offices, home construction companies, insurance companies, financial institutions, government agencies, community legal clinics, academic institutions, and private corporations.
