The Bachelor of Business Administration (BBA) degree offered through the Department of Business and Administration is designed for students who wish to pursue a career in business, in the private, public or non-profit sectors. We nurture socially conscience business leaders and entrepreneurs that are capable of adapting to the ever-changing needs of the modern business world.

The Business and Administration program develops critical thinking, analytic and decision-making abilities, oral and written communication skills, and the self-confidence to effectively apply these skills. Some courses in the program are taught using the case method, a simulation of real business situations from the perspective of the actual decision-maker. Computer-based simulations, experiential exercises, guest speakers, and field trips are also used to connect course material to the business world.  A new co-op work study program allows students to add career real work experience to their UW Degree.

Bachelor of Business Administration (4 years):-

The four-year BBA prepares students for managerial work and also for further study in business administration such as an MBA or other graduate degree program.  In the four-year program, you can (and many students do) elect to take a 'general stream' degree, which allows maximum flexibility for course selection. Other students elect to narrow their studies into their choice of five Areas of Concentration:

• Marketing
• International Business
• Co-operative Enterprises
• Accounting
• Human Resource Management & Organisational Behaviour

It is not unusual for students to pursue two Concentrations simultaneously (e.g., Marketing and International Business) in our four-year program.

Biology is a broad discipline, which includes the subject areas of botany, zoology, microbiology, cell biology, ecology, and genetics. It examines all life forms from the simple to the complex, and is an ideal partner to study in chemistry, physics, and mathematics. If you have an aptitude for science and possess a keen desire to understand the living world, you will find the study of biology very rewarding.

At The University of Winnipeg, we teach a wide range of courses and offer active research programs in botany ecology, forest ecology, mosquito biology, evolutionary genetics, molecular biology, evolutionary physiology, soil microbiology and remediation, limnology, bioinformatics, genomics, dendrochronology, behavioural biology of birds, effects of UV radiation on the environment, and cell biology.

Biology can be explored in several different programs of study at The University of Winnipeg which can lead to a Bachelor of Science degree (3-year, 4-year, or Honours).

The Health Informatics (HI) major provides students with more focused courses in Health information needs, infrastructure, standards, and jurisdiction. This stream has been designed in close cooperation with Manitoba e-Health. Sample courses include:

• Introduction to Internet Programming

From essential training in project management and business writing, to web security, information architecture, and network administration this program develops a complete skill set for IT professionals. Graduates gain experience with a wide variety of web programming technologies (including HTML, CSS, and JavaScript) and PHP programming.

OBJECTIVES

• Develop hands-on skills in web development applications and programming languages such as HTML, CSS, XML, JavaScript, PHP, APS.net, and Java;
• Apply Adobe Photoshop to the visual design of Websites;
• Gain a solid understanding of best practices in search engine optimization (SEO);
• Create web pages in past, current, and emerging standards using HTML, XHTML, CSS, and XML
• Create rich multimedia files using Flash
• Use, edit and customize Dreamweaver and a variety of content management systems including Wordpress, Drupal, and Joomla for agile web development purposes;
• Plan, design, and create relational database systems;
• Understand TCP/IP and Networking in general to help trouble shoot issues and design solutions to potential performance problems;
• Gain an understanding of security problems in order to install, set-up, and secure a Web server.

Our program has been designed so that students will acquire enough skills and knowledge to work in different sectors as a data scientist or data analyst. Our students will be able to have great contributions to make optimal decisions and strategies through analysing huge and unstructured data that are growing every day.

Applied Biology focuses on the study of molecular and cellular biology, and is designed to address the need for qualified biotechnologists in Manitoba. You’ll develop the necessary laboratory skills required for the job, and the theoretical background to expand investigation, troubleshoot, or take a leadership role in the laboratory. Choose from either a traditional program or a co-operative option, which includes three to four paid work terms, for a total of 12 months on-the-job work experience.

This degree focuses on the prevention and care of muscle, bone and joint injuries as they occur in sport, recreation, fitness and in the workplace. Students will learn to assess the cause and severity of an injury and provide the most effective rehabilitation and return to sport/recreation/work protocol.

Interdisciplinary Linguistics examines the complexities of language use in daily communication within various social and cultural contexts. You’ll gain an in-depth understanding of how language encodes meaning, and gain skills to write, read and speak with greater confidence, fluency and power.
