The field of finance has its roots in the discipline of economics and business. This program will provide students with the conceptual tools to understand a number of issues from modern finance theory and applications. The program will provide students with a solid understanding of the operation of capital markets and capital market instruments, including equities, fixed income securities, as well futures markets, options and other derivatives. The program will provide students with an in-depth understanding of topics in modern finance and financial economics as it relates to the capital structure of firms and how these financial instruments affect the overall operation of modern financial systems.

Students have the option of pursuing a BA in Economics and Finance or a BBA in Economics in Finance.

This degree focuses on the prevention and care of muscle, bone and joint injuries as they occur in sport, recreation, fitness and in the workplace. Students will learn to assess the cause and severity of an injury and provide the most effective rehabilitation and return to sport/recreation/work protocol.

The Department of Kinesiology and Applied Health at The University of Winnipeg is student-centred with small classes and labs and accessible professors. Our professors have expertise and research interests in areas that include adapted physical activity, physical activity and aging, sports nutrition, coaching, sport and exercise psychology, motor behaviour, exercise physiology, biomechanics and prevention, care and treatment of muscle, bone and joint injuries.

Professionals in the field of Kinesiology are interested in increasing physical activity participation, enhancing sport performance,development of physical literacy, the technical and tactical aspects of coaching, the short and long term effects of exercise and the effect of physical activity on society.

The four-year BBA prepares students for managerial work and also for further study in business administration such as an MBA or other graduate degree program.  The four-year degree is equivalent to a Bachelor of Commerce at other Canadian universities.

The four-year BBA allows students the option of completing the program under the General Stream or choosing one of four Subject Specific Concentrations.  The four concentrations are: Accounting, Marketing, International Business and Human Resource Management & Organizational Behaviour. 

Under the General Stream, the program requires students to complete 120 credit hours, 57 of which are in Business and Administration.  The total hours requirement is the same for students pursuing a specific concentration, however the Business and Administration component of the degree increases to 66 credit hours. 

Statisticians use their expertise in agricultural research, health care research, quality control and actuarial work. In the face of uncertainty, statisticians use data to make predictions about sales, product demand, weather forecasts and product quality.  Statisticians design and analyze the results of clinical trials to study the safety and effectiveness of new medications or to compare cancer treatments.  Almost every government agency employs statisticians.  They work with specialists such as economists, biologists, chemists, and doctors to assist in the design of experiments and the analysis of research data. Statisticians are highly employable with the majority working for private corporations or government departments and agencies.

In the department of Modern Languages and Literatures, we offer the 3 or 4-year BA (Major or Combined Major) in German Studies with challenging courses where you will discuss topics of current interest, reflect on problems of the modern world, explore the culture of Germany, Austria and Switzerland and read literary and other texts dealing with the social and political issues of our time.

From the beginning to the advanced level, we offer up-to-date language instruction in an intimate learning environment. As you develop your command of oral and written German, you will also develop the cultural understanding that is needed in the global community through the study of literary and other texts.

Students without any previous knowledge of German can begin here with GERM-1001(6). If you have some prior knowledge, you can meet with a departmental advisor to select the appropriate level of course.

To major in German, you must take one required course, GERM-2109(3) Advanced Intermediate German I, as well as a set number of courses at the 3000-level. If you do not wish to major, but simply to pursue German studies out of interest, you are also welcome in our courses. Contact a departmental advisor to determine the right level for you.

Sample Program
This is only one example of one possible path through the program. Students should normally begin with  2102 and 2002 and then take 3101. After that, they may take CW courses in any order.  Paths will differ, depending on students' interests, the number of courses they take each year, and which courses are offered in any given year. The study of Geography is concerned with the Earth's surface in two ways - as the science of interaction between natural elements of the environment, such as weather, plants, soils and landforms; and secondly, as the science of the distribution and activities of the Earth's population in response to various social and environmental factors. Systematic studies in Geography examine the locations, distributions, arrangement, and association of a group of interrelated features. In contrast, regional studies examine the totality of geographic phenomena in a particular area. No matter what approach is taken, there are certain skills and techniques that are of particular geographic relevance.

As a reflection of the diversity that exists within the study of Geography and the special skills required, the Department offers courses within three fields of study - Cultural Geography, Physical Geography and Geomatics. You may attain either the General or Four-year Bachelor's degree in either Arts or Science, as well as the B.A. or B.Sc.Honours degree

Geography offers a considerable variety of career opportunities. High schools require a continuing supply of Geography teachers. Various federal and provincial agencies dealing with conservation, town planning, recreation, landscape architecture and the utilization of Canada's resource also provide opportunities, especially to those with Honours or graduate work in Geography. Undergraduate training in the subject is often required for certain business careers, especially in surveying, market assessment, and location and general commercial development.

he 4 Year BA in Indigenous Studies is more appropriate than the 3 Year BA in Indigenous Studies for preparing the student for graduate school. It allows flexibility of choice for students who want to sample a wide variety of courses; to develop a stronger understanding of Indigenous issues, peoples, and policies; and who wish to develop their skills in critical reading, writing, and thinking. Students will gain knowledge on Indigenous cultures, particularly Canada, much of it wish can be applicable in work situations in band, provincial, national and international settings as well as with non-profit and for-profit organizations.  It can be successful paired with any number of other majors – Indigenous Studies and Criminal Justice; Indigenous Studies and Politics, for example.

Because this program offers much freedom of choice, it is important for students to think carefully about their interests and goals when choosing courses. The interdisciplinary field of Conflict Resolution Studies deals with the nature and dynamics of human conflict. It explores topics of violence, power, justice, peace, communication and culture, as well as personal, local, and global conflict. You can choose from courses in a variety of different subject areas, and complete a practicum program in either a local or international setting as part of your university education. This major is offered through Menno Simons College.
