The interdisciplinary Disability Studies program offers B.A. options at the three-year, four-year, and honours level. Disability Studies is cross-disability (all disabilities rather than one), intersectional (disability in conjunction with race, gender, class, ethnicity, sexuality, etc.), and based in the social model of disability rather than the bio-medical model. From this perspective a lack of ramps is considered disabling, not the fact that someone uses a wheelchair.

The focus of the Disability Studies program at the University of Winnipeg is the critical analysis of disability in society. This includes the study of disability as a social, cultural, historical, and political construction. Students are encouraged to examine a wide range of topics such as human rights, ethics, social movements, theory, family, sexuality, employment, socialization, aging, education, international development, and gender issues.

Master the analytical framework and essential project management tools for budgeting, procuring, scoping, modeling, measuring, and reporting. This program equips graduates with the essential skills of project management and is aligned with the knowledge requirements of the Project Management Professional (PMP)® and Certified Associate in Project Management (CAPM)® industry-recognized certifications.

(PMP and CAPM are internationally recognized designations offered by the Project Management Institute (PMI)

Program Outcomes

• Create and execute project work plans, define project scope and deliverables, determine project resources and staffing requirements, set project milestones, develop budget proposals, and successfully close a variety of projects.
• Gain a thorough understanding of the procurement life cycle including contract (tort) laws, potential legal issues, the step-by-step methodology for developing and managing procurement specifications, documents and contracts, and best practices for the vendor selection process.
• Create a project management communication plan that builds effective stakeholder and project team communication, and gain familiarity with a variety of project reporting tools and communication templates for communication purposes throughout the project life cycle.
• Manage change in project scope, create comprehensive risk profiles, and identify and develop mitigation and avoidance strategies that protect against a variety of liabilities and damage to organizational business interests.
• Foster a dynamic team environment built on collaborative relationships, clearly define group roles and responsibilities of the project team, and constructively and proactively manage conflict in order to avoid potential harm to the project and/or project team.
• Utilize project management technologies and analytics to streamline and ease process.
• Will help prepare students to write the Project Management Professional (PMP) or Certified Associate Project Management (CAPM) designation examinations.

Kinesiology is the art and science of human movement from a psychological, sociological, biological, mechanical and physiological perspective. Professionals in the field of Kinesiology are interested in enhancing sport performance; the promotion of physical literacy; the technical and tactical aspects of coaching; the short and long term effects of exercise; and the impact of physical activity on society. 

A bachelor degree in Kinesiology prepares students for a variety of career opportunities in areas such as sport administration, health and physical activity promotion,  adapted physical activity, senior’s  fitness and wellbeing and children’s physical literacy  This degree also prepares students to pursue further education at the graduate level.

The Bachelor of Business Administration (BBA) degree offered through the Department of Business and Administration is designed for students who wish to pursue a career in business, in the private, public or non-profit sectors. We nurture socially conscience business leaders and entrepreneurs that are capable of adapting to the ever-changing needs of the modern business world.

The Business and Administration program develops critical thinking, analytic and decision-making abilities, oral and written communication skills, and the self-confidence to effectively apply these skills. Some courses in the program are taught using the case method, a simulation of real business situations from the perspective of the actual decision-maker. Computer-based simulations, experiential exercises, guest speakers, and field trips are also used to connect course material to the business world.  A new co-op work study program allows students to add career real work experience to their UW Degree.

Bachelor of Business Administration (4 years):-

The four-year BBA prepares students for managerial work and also for further study in business administration such as an MBA or other graduate degree program.  In the four-year program, you can (and many students do) elect to take a 'general stream' degree, which allows maximum flexibility for course selection. Other students elect to narrow their studies into their choice of five Areas of Concentration:

• Marketing
• International Business
• Co-operative Enterprises
• Accounting
• Human Resource Management & Organisational Behaviour

It is not unusual for students to pursue two Concentrations simultaneously (e.g., Marketing and International Business) in our four-year program.

he 4-Year BA allows flexibility of choice for students who want to sample a wide variety of courses; to develop a stronger understanding of language, literature, and culture; and to strengthen their reading and writing skills and their powers of critical thinking. This degree provides knowledge and practical skills that are assets in everyday life and in almost any career. Critical readers and writers are required in professions such as law, public service, business, medicine and politics. More directly, the study of English can lead to careers in teaching or careers that involve writing, such as news reporting, publishing, business advertising, and public relations.

Because this program offers much freedom of choice, it is important for students to think carefully about their interests and goals when choosing courses. The four-year BBA prepares students for managerial work and also for further study in business administration such as an MBA or other graduate degree program.  The four-year degree is equivalent to a Bachelor of Commerce at other Canadian universities.

The four-year BBA allows students the option of completing the program under the General Stream or choosing one of four Subject Specific Concentrations.  The four concentrations are: Accounting, Marketing, International Business and Human Resource Management & Organizational Behaviour. 

Under the General Stream, the program requires students to complete 120 credit hours, 57 of which are in Business and Administration.  The total hours requirement is the same for students pursuing a specific concentration, however the Business and Administration component of the degree increases to 66 credit hours. 

The Applied Computer Science major is designed to prepare students in the following core areas: Programming Fundamentals (object-oriented, event driven, algorithms), Information Management (database systems, data modeling, data warehousing, relational databases, query languages), Software Engineering (software requirements and design, software process, software project management), Operating Systems, Net-Centric Computing (Internet programming, networks, security), Human Computer Interaction (GUI Design and Programming), Intelligent Systems (Machine Learning). Our team-oriented courses are meant to strengthen communication skills, experience group dynamics, and foster self-confidence. The 4-year major includes the development of a team-based software project for a local IT organization. Our program will help develop analytical thinking and applied skills by blending theoretical and practical aspects of computer science. The Applied Computer Science major is designed to provide an excellent basis for graduate studies in either computer science or applied computing.

Here you'll learn about some of the basic processes and methods involved in the narratology of comics, and how they can be used — believe it or not — to understand ancient artefacts! You'll also consider the affect of the presentation of classics in comics and our contemporary responses to that, and you'll examine how the use of different types of media can help open up new understandings of the classical world! 

Urban and Inner-City Studies is an interdisciplinary Major concerned with the examination of the city as a dynamic environment. Our unique location serves as a gateway for north end residents to enter the University of Winnipeg and as a place for the larger UWinnipeg student body to connect to and learn from the north end community. The program combines a traditional urban studies focus with courses that examine various aspects of the inner city, such as the urban Aboriginal experience, the immigrant and refugee experience, and the role of women. In Canada, cities continue to be centres of great challenge: from managing suburban growth to promoting inner-city revitalization; from responding to the opportunities and concerns created by rapidly changing demographics, to those created by globalization and socio-economic change. Cities are also home to increased concentrations of poverty and social and political exclusion. The Urban and Inner-City Studies program provides an opportunity to examine the political, economic, social and spatial context of these and many other important aspects of urban change from an interdisciplinary perspective.
