The field of finance has its roots in the discipline of economics and business. This program will provide students with the conceptual tools to understand a number of issues from modern finance theory and applications. The program will provide students with a solid understanding of the operation of capital markets and capital market instruments, including equities, fixed income securities, as well futures markets, options and other derivatives. The program will provide students with an in-depth understanding of topics in modern finance and financial economics as it relates to the capital structure of firms and how these financial instruments affect the overall operation of modern financial systems.

Students have the option of pursuing a BA in Economics and Finance or a BBA in Economics in Finance.

The interdisciplinary field of Conflict Resolution Studies deals with the nature and dynamics of human conflict. It explores topics of violence, power, justice, peace, communication and culture, as well as personal, local, and global conflict. You can choose from courses in a variety of different subject areas, and complete a practicum program in either a local or international setting as part of your university education. This major is offered through Menno Simons College.

The Department of Kinesiology and Applied Health at The University of Winnipeg is student-centred with small classes and labs and accessible professors. Our professors have expertise and research interests in areas that include adapted physical activity, physical activity and aging, sports nutrition, coaching, sport and exercise psychology, motor behaviour, exercise physiology, biomechanics and prevention, care and treatment of muscle, bone and joint injuries.

PACE offers the Marketing Management Diploma Program in a full-time, two-year format which includes a 4-week internship.

The objective of the Dance Program Steam is to prepare you for graduate equivalent training and /or professional work in performance, teaching, or choreography. This program is offered jointly with the Professional Program of the School of Contemporary Dancers; entrance to the Professional Program of the School of Contemporary Dancers is by audition. Once admission is obtained, you must also apply for admission to The University of Winnipeg.

In addition to discipline-specific writing courses at the introductory level (please see Course Listings for more information), the Department offers a 4-Year BA with a Major in Rhetoric and Communications. This program emphasizes the interpretation, evaluation, production, and precise editing of messages for a range of audiences, media, and purposes. Students in the Major practice writing in a variety of genres and read contemporary non-fiction, analyze visual and verbal arguments, trace the impact of print and electronic media on western culture, and—through the study of theory and close attention to textual practices—examine how ideology imprints itself on discourse. Students with a BA in Rhetoric and Communications can enter graduate studies in such fields as Communications, Composition, Media Studies, and Rhetoric. They are also well prepared for public- and private-sector careers that depend on advanced analytical and communicative skills, especially in writing.

Applied computer science is the study of how and where computers work. It includes designing hardware and software, building database and operating systems, and programming for the internet. UWinnipeg’s program covers each of these areas, giving you an understanding of how they connect to create vast networks. In the four-year major, you’ll gain practical experience and build teamwork skills as you take on a team-based software project for a local IT company.

Applied Computer Science - Health Informatics Stream
The Health Informatics(HI) stream provides students with more focused courses in Health information needs, infrastructure, standards, and jurisdiction. This stream has been designed in close cooperation with Manitoba e-Health. The HI stream includes upper year courses to address specific needs of the Health industry, e.g., Health Care information requirements and standards, regulatory environment, clinical terminologies, standards and professional practice. The HI stream complements offerings of the ACS department, and gives students flexibility of combining all three areas of IT, Business, and Health.

panish is a language that has more native speakers than any other except Chinese. Belonging to the Romance language family which also includes French, Italian and Portuguese, Spanish derived from Latin but was heavily influenced by Arabic during the occupation of Spain which lasted from 711 to 1492. As Spanish spread throughout the New World starting in the fifteenth century, it underwent numerous changes through contact with indigenous peoples and developed various regional varieties and dialects. Today, it is spoken in many parts of the world including Spain, Latin America (Mexico, Argentina, Chile...), the Caribbean (Cuba, Puerto Rico) and north Africa (Ceuta, Melilla). The majority of Spanish speakers are found outside of Spain and many make their home in the United States or Canada.

As the number of Spanish speakers continues to increase, so do the career opportunities in Spanish as a language for international business, trade and law, tourism, immigration and the foreign service, global, national and community development with both governmental and non-governmental organizations as well as journalism, translation and teaching. In all of these fields, learning Spanish gives you a competitive edge.

Along with the language, you will gain the cultural awareness and understanding that is needed in today’s global community. The courses that we offer, through the Department of Modern Languages and Literatures, will help you to develop your communication skills and your critical thinking skills - a must in order to grasp the subtleties of interacting with different cultures. In our courses, you will deepen your understanding of Hispanic culture through the analysis of texts from the Internet and the media as well as through the study of films and literature.
