The objective of the Dance Program Steam is to prepare you for graduate equivalent training and /or professional work in performance, teaching, or choreography. This program is offered jointly with the Professional Program of the School of Contemporary Dancers; entrance to the Professional Program of the School of Contemporary Dancers is by audition. Once admission is obtained, you must also apply for admission to The University of Winnipeg.

How do the brain and nervous system control behaviour? This program provides you with an understanding of the integrated relationship between biology and psychology. In Biopsychology you’ll develop a strong understanding of the structure and function of the nervous system as you explore the relationship between the nervous system and behaviour.

This program is specifically designed to serve the needs of health and service industries in Manitoba. Courses in Applied Environmental Science cover such topics as waste management, soil-vegetation systems and environmental ethics. You can choose between a four-year and five-year program. In the five-year program, you’ll have the option of completing a co-operative work term consisting of a minimum of 16 weeks of full-time, paid work experience.

Biology is a broad discipline, which includes the subject areas of botany, zoology, microbiology, cell biology, ecology, and genetics. It examines all life forms from the simple to the complex, and is an ideal partner to study in chemistry, physics, and mathematics. If you have an aptitude for science and possess a keen desire to understand the living world, you will find the study of biology very rewarding.

At The University of Winnipeg, we teach a wide range of courses and offer active research programs in botany ecology, forest ecology, mosquito biology, evolutionary genetics, molecular biology, evolutionary physiology, soil microbiology and remediation, limnology, bioinformatics, genomics, dendrochronology, behavioural biology of birds, effects of UV radiation on the environment, and cell biology.

This degree investigates living systems by combining the knowledge and methodologies of biochemistry, cell biology, genetics, and microbiology with those of the physical sciences. A degree in Biochemistry will prepare you for work in vario Biochemistry is an interdisciplinary program which combines Biochemistry, Cell Biology, Genetics, and Microbiology with the techniques of the physical sciences to investigate living systems.

Through this program, you will gain a thorough understanding of the molecular aspects of the structure, function, and metabolism of prokaryotes, animals, and plants. You will also obtain experience in up-to-date laboratory techniques and procedures.

This is one of the most exciting areas of science at this time and students will be kept abreast of advances in the field and their impact on humans and other life forms.

The University of Winnipeg offers three Biochemistry Degrees: B.Sc. (3-yr), B.Sc. (4-yr), and B.Sc. (Honours). As a graduate, you will be well qualified to work in university, government, and other research laboratories or in the pharmaceutical and food industries. Graduates with a 4-Year B.Sc. or B.Sc. (Honours) could also proceed to graduate studies in the Life Sciences.

Here you'll learn about some of the basic processes and methods involved in the narratology of comics, and how they can be used — believe it or not — to understand ancient artefacts! You'll also consider the affect of the presentation of classics in comics and our contemporary responses to that, and you'll examine how the use of different types of media can help open up new understandings of the classical world! 

From essential training in project management and business writing, to web security, information architecture, and network administration this program develops a complete skill set for IT professionals. Graduates gain experience with a wide variety of web programming technologies (including HTML, CSS, and JavaScript) and PHP programming.

OBJECTIVES

• Develop hands-on skills in web development applications and programming languages such as HTML, CSS, XML, JavaScript, PHP, APS.net, and Java;
• Apply Adobe Photoshop to the visual design of Websites;
• Gain a solid understanding of best practices in search engine optimization (SEO);
• Create web pages in past, current, and emerging standards using HTML, XHTML, CSS, and XML
• Create rich multimedia files using Flash
• Use, edit and customize Dreamweaver and a variety of content management systems including Wordpress, Drupal, and Joomla for agile web development purposes;
• Plan, design, and create relational database systems;
• Understand TCP/IP and Networking in general to help trouble shoot issues and design solutions to potential performance problems;
• Gain an understanding of security problems in order to install, set-up, and secure a Web server.

In addition to discipline-specific writing courses at the introductory level (please see Course Listings for more information), the Department offers a 4-Year BA with a Major in Rhetoric and Communications. This program emphasizes the interpretation, evaluation, production, and precise editing of messages for a range of audiences, media, and purposes. Students in the Major practice writing in a variety of genres and read contemporary non-fiction, analyze visual and verbal arguments, trace the impact of print and electronic media on western culture, and—through the study of theory and close attention to textual practices—examine how ideology imprints itself on discourse. Students with a BA in Rhetoric and Communications can enter graduate studies in such fields as Communications, Composition, Media Studies, and Rhetoric. They are also well prepared for public- and private-sector careers that depend on advanced analytical and communicative skills, especially in writing.
