With a broad foundation of PR and marketing-specific knowledge, this program emphasizes best practices, tackles current and emerging issues, and develops the skill set to be a leader in the field.

Objectives & Outcomes

• Identify, analyze and influence organizational objectives, communications strategies and key interest groups
• Guide management on key business and policy decisions
• Develop public relations strategies that create awareness and favourable perception, and/or promote your products and services and set measurable objectives from which to evaluate their effectiveness
• Build collegial and cooperative relationships with a variety of public interest groups, internal and external clients, and the media
• Design and implement a media relations strategy expanding your visibility in the community
• Analyze consume buying patterns, employ marketing tools and research methodologies to determine environmental and competitive factors affecting products and services, and develop new products and/or services meriting consumer interest and increasing market share
• Master public relations communications writing template including: a well-tooled press kit, news releases, annual reports, newsletters, brochure content, and personality profiles
• Plan and direct the crisis and change management process
• Coordinate and prepare material for internal and external promotional publications, including planning articles, editing copy, supervising print preparation, distributing publications
• Gain an understanding of digital communication technologies, their impact in traditional approaches to public relations and marketing, and how to adapt print-based collaterals for this new medium
• Exercise sound financial decision-making and budgeting skills

The Information Systems (IS) stream is aimed at students interested in focusing on information and business needs of IT industry. The new stream is intended to prepare students in information oriented courses, and also in system and Internet based technologies. Sample courses include: Internet programming, database design and development, software requirements and design, telecommunications, business application systems and eCommerce. One advantage of this stream is that students can easily combine this stream as a double major with another department for a Bachelors degree in arts or science.

he 4-Year BA allows flexibility of choice for students who want to sample a wide variety of courses; to develop a stronger understanding of language, literature, and culture; and to strengthen their reading and writing skills and their powers of critical thinking. This degree provides knowledge and practical skills that are assets in everyday life and in almost any career. Critical readers and writers are required in professions such as law, public service, business, medicine and politics. More directly, the study of English can lead to careers in teaching or careers that involve writing, such as news reporting, publishing, business advertising, and public relations.

Theatre and Film – one of the largest in Canada – includes the opportunity to obtain a Bachelor of Arts in one of six different areas of study: Acting and Directing, Design, Drama in Education, Filmmaking, Playwriting, Stage Management or Production. The Department also offers a BA (Honours) in Acting, Directing, Design, Playwriting, and Stage Management and Production.  Your coursework will encompass a full range of practical and theoretical study, and will prepare you for an exciting career in the arts.

he 4 Year BA in Indigenous Studies is more appropriate than the 3 Year BA in Indigenous Studies for preparing the student for graduate school. It allows flexibility of choice for students who want to sample a wide variety of courses; to develop a stronger understanding of Indigenous issues, peoples, and policies; and who wish to develop their skills in critical reading, writing, and thinking. Students will gain knowledge on Indigenous cultures, particularly Canada, much of it wish can be applicable in work situations in band, provincial, national and international settings as well as with non-profit and for-profit organizations.  It can be successful paired with any number of other majors – Indigenous Studies and Criminal Justice; Indigenous Studies and Politics, for example.

This degree combines the information and methodologies of Anatomy, Anthropology, Archaeology, Biochemistry, and Biology with the techniques of the physical sciences to examine human biological systems of the past and present. It is an interdisciplinary program that is founded primarily on courses from the departments of Anthropology and Biology. As a student in this program, you will gain an understanding of comparative anatomy, cellular biology, methods in archeology, and primate evolution. You will also obtain experience in up-to-date laboratory techniques and procedures. This program offers the option of combining two exciting disciplines to create a skill set that is interesting and unique.

The study of religion aims to understand religious thought and practices as aspects of the culture and society that produced them. It offers an opportunity to explore beliefs and ideas, philosophies and mythologies, rituals and symbols, etc., that shape the cultures and civilizations of the world both in historical perspective and as contemporary phenomena. In the process of this exploration, the Religion & Culture program sensitizes students to the variety of traditions, commitments, and cultures which exist in our world, both globally and locally. It also provides an environment for students to thoughtfully reflect upon their own religious traditions and experiences as well as to think about issues and problems of modern life from a variety of perspectives.

The introductory courses are open to all students. They provide an opportunity to survey the diversity of religion in either the contemporary Canadian or the global context, or to explore the biblical roots of Judeo-Christian tradition. General interest courses are also offered at the 2000 level, and are open to all students without prerequisite. These courses do not presuppose previous knowledge or background and enable students to focus either on particular religious traditions (Aboriginal, Buddhist, Biblical, etc.) or on contemporary issues in religion (sexuality, technology, new religions, popular culture, etc.). Departmental faculty members have particular interests and strengths in the areas of religion and modern culture, mythology, Chinese and Japanese religions, Buddhist traditions, aboriginal traditions, Hebrew Bible/Old Testament, and gender studies. The Major program, leading to either a 3-Year BA, a 4-Year BA, or a 4-Year Honours BA, is designed to provide an opportunity to explore a variety of religious traditions and topics as well as to concentrate on areas of particular interest. The Department also participates in a Joint Masters Program in Religion with the University of Manitoba.

Graduates who are interested in fields where human interaction and/or multiculturalism are significant factors, such as education, mediation services, social work, international business and international development, employee relations, immigration services and certain areas of law and the justice system, benefit greatly from courses in Religion & Culture.

This degree investigates living systems by combining the knowledge and methodologies of biochemistry, cell biology, genetics, and microbiology with those of the physical sciences. A degree in Biochemistry will prepare you for work in vario Biochemistry is an interdisciplinary program which combines Biochemistry, Cell Biology, Genetics, and Microbiology with the techniques of the physical sciences to investigate living systems.

Through this program, you will gain a thorough understanding of the molecular aspects of the structure, function, and metabolism of prokaryotes, animals, and plants. You will also obtain experience in up-to-date laboratory techniques and procedures.

The University of Winnipeg offers three Biochemistry Degrees: B.Sc. (3-yr), B.Sc. (4-yr), and B.Sc. (Honours). As a graduate, you will be well qualified to work in university, government, and other research laboratories or in the pharmaceutical and food industries. Graduates with a 4-Year B.Sc. or B.Sc. Program Outcomes

• Create and execute project work plans, define project scope and deliverables, determine project resources and staffing requirements, set project milestones, develop budget proposals, and successfully close a variety of projects.
• Gain a thorough understanding of the procurement life cycle including contract (tort) laws, potential legal issues, the step-by-step methodology for developing and managing procurement specifications, documents and contracts, and best practices for the vendor selection process.
• Create a project management communication plan that builds effective stakeholder and project team communication, and gain familiarity with a variety of project reporting tools and communication templates for communication purposes throughout the project life cycle.
• Manage change in project scope, create comprehensive risk profiles, and identify and develop mitigation and avoidance strategies that protect against a variety of liabilities and damage to organizational business interests.
• Foster a dynamic team environment built on collaborative relationships, clearly define group roles and responsibilities of the project team, and constructively and proactively manage conflict in order to avoid potential harm to the project and/or project team.
• Utilize project management technologies and analytics to streamline and ease process.
• Will help prepare students to write the Project Management Professional (PMP) or Certified Associate Project Management (CAPM) designation examinations.
