The goal of physics is to formulate theories, or “laws,” which summarize our knowledge of the natural world. We don’t yet know all the basic laws of nature, or how many laws there are.

The famous physicist Richard Feynman said the first principle of science is that the test of all knowledge is experiment and experiment is the sole judge of scientific “truth.” But what is the source of knowledge? Where do the laws that are to be tested come from? Experiment itself helps to produce these laws in the sense that it gives us hints. We also need imagination to create from these hints the great generalizations: to guess at the wonderful, simple, but very strange patterns beneath them all, and then to experiment to check again whether we have made the right guess. Physics needs people with imagination and a thirst to understand the inner workings of nature.

Research in physics often gives rise to unexpected benefits, with revolutionary discoveries like galaxies, lasers, magnetic resonance imaging, fibre optic communications, and the transistor.

The University of Winnipeg has a nationally recognized Physics Department. Research is conducted on a variety of topics in both theoretical and experimental physics. The experimentalists study the nature of diamonds and semiconductors, medical uses of MRI, and the properties of subatomic particles, while the theorists imagine, deduce and investigate the inner workings of black holes, hot space, chaos, quantum computers, and quantum gravity. Students are encouraged to participate in these research activities through summer employment with research groups.

This program can lead to a Bachelor of Science degree (3-year, 4-year, or Honours). The 4-year and Honours programs have the options of Chemical, Computational, and Mathematical Physics streams.

Chemists are at the forefront of unravelling the mysteries of the most complex chemical systems. If you’re interested in understanding the structure of matter and how it behaves on a molecular level, you may be drawn to the field of chemistry. In Applied Chemistry, you can choose from either a traditional program or a co-operative option that integrates academic studies with 12 months of paid work experience in chemistry-related positions.

French Studies offers 3 different undergraduate Major degree programs (a 3-year Bachelor of Arts,  a 4-year Bachelor of Arts and an Honours Bachelor of Arts), as well as an undergraduate Minor degree program. Then take Natalie Swain's course on Classics and Comics! Here you'll learn about some of the basic processes and methods involved in the narratology of comics, and how they can be used — believe it or not — to understand ancient artefacts! You'll also consider the affect of the presentation of classics in comics and our contemporary responses to that, and you'll examine how the use of different types of media can help open up new understandings of the classical world! 

The Information Systems (IS) stream is aimed at students interested in focusing on information and business needs of IT industry. The new stream is intended to prepare students in information oriented courses, and also in system and Internet based technologies. Sample courses include: Internet programming, database design and development, software requirements and design, telecommunications, business application systems and eCommerce. One advantage of this stream is that students can easily combine this stream as a double major with another department for a Bachelors degree in arts or science.

Environmental Studies and Sciences combines many different perspectives to understand the changes in our environment, while acknowledging human impacts and providing a framework to develop solutions for environmental programs. You can choose your course of study from six different subject areas including Chemistry, Forest Ecology, Forest Policy and Management, Global Environmental Systems, Issues in Sustainability, and Urban Environments

Lead the way in this brand-new, industry-aligned program. Graduates get the hands-on skills and knowledge needed to manage, organize, and run supply chain functions. From logistics to procurement, knowledge management to global sourcing, students cover all aspects of the supply chain management field, being challenged to apply theory to the practical workplace. Delivered by industry experts and supported by the Supply Chain Management Association - Manitoba (SCMA-MB), this program offers students an educational experience rooted in real-world experience and current industry needs.

OBJECTIVES & OUTCOMES
The Supply Chain Management Diploma program prepares graduates to work as at the management level in the supply chain field, providing a comprehensive foundation in the theory and practices of supply chain management based on the best practices and industry standards in Canada.

OUTCOMES

• Be able to define and use supply chain management terms and theories in real world scenarios
• Be able to analyze, design, and make recommendations on supply chain management operations
• Be able to problem solve for issues in supply chain management
• Be able to effectively supervise, manage, and organize teams for productive work

Stream C is a joint program offered by the University of Winnipeg (UW) and Red River College (RRC) or the Université de St. Boniface (USB). By combining the resources of both UW and either RRC or USB, students are able to earn both a two-year diploma in Early Childhood Education (ECE) and a three-year Bachelor of Arts degree in Developmental Studies (Child Development and Child Care) in a four-year period of full-time study. Graduates of this stream are eligible for the highest classification: Early Childhood Education (ECE) III from the Manitoba Department of Families (Early Learning and Child Care Program). The UW offers the only degree-granting professional program in Early Childhood Education in Manitoba.

Stream C prepares graduates for a variety of positions, including child-care specialists who function as centre directors, supervisors and early childhood educators; and staff specializing in programs for the developmentally delayed and care for children with additional learning needs

 Studies in English enrich your enjoyment and understanding of all forms of literature. In the English program you will read a wide variety of texts, study the English language, and investigate and practice the process of writing. You will be asked to consider questions such as how culture, gender, ethnicity, race, social class, and/or historical context affect the texts you read.

The English Department offers courses in literary periods that range from classic to contemporary, focusing on writers from Geoffrey Chaucer and William Shakespeare to Carol Shields and Tomson Highway. The department also offers courses in historical periods, genres, children’s literature, women and literature, popular literature, gay and lesbian literature, creative writing, language and linguistics.

This program leads to a Bachelor of Arts degree (3-year, 4-year, or Honours) with a Major in English. The 4-Year BA offers students three areas of specialization: Creative Writing; Young People’s Texts and Cultures; and Screen and Cultural Studies.

4 Year BA in Young People's Texts and Cultures:-
The specialization in Young People's Texts and Cultures focuses on texts created for children and young people and introduces students to the study of those texts as well as toys, games, picture books, digital media, films and performances.

PACE offers the Marketing Management Diploma Program in a full-time, two-year format which includes a 4-week internship.
