Consider our new major in Human Rights – the only one of its kind in Western Canada. Through this multidisciplinary program, you will have an opportunity to explore issues of human rights in a context defined by globalization. This major is offered through Global College.

Become a highly-skilled communicator ready to take on public relations in both corporate and not-for-profit environments. With a broad foundation of PR and marketing-specific knowledge, this program emphasizes best practices, tackles current and emerging issues, and develops the skill set to be a leader in the field.

Objectives & Outcomes

• Identify, analyze and influence organizational objectives, communications strategies and key interest groups
• Guide management on key business and policy decisions
• Develop public relations strategies that create awareness and favourable perception, and/or promote your products and services and set measurable objectives from which to evaluate their effectiveness
• Build collegial and cooperative relationships with a variety of public interest groups, internal and external clients, and the media
• Design and implement a media relations strategy expanding your visibility in the community
• Analyze consume buying patterns, employ marketing tools and research methodologies to determine environmental and competitive factors affecting products and services, and develop new products and/or services meriting consumer interest and increasing market share
• Master public relations communications writing template including: a well-tooled press kit, news releases, annual reports, newsletters, brochure content, and personality profiles
• Plan and direct the crisis and change management process
• Coordinate and prepare material for internal and external promotional publications, including planning articles, editing copy, supervising print preparation, distributing publications
• Gain an understanding of digital communication technologies, their impact in traditional approaches to public relations and marketing, and how to adapt print-based collaterals for this new medium
• Exercise sound financial decision-making and budgeting skills

Chemistry is the essential science to the building blocks of life. It spans all aspects of our lives, from our health and nutrition to our scientific discoveries and management of an environmentally sustainable world. A degree in this “central science” can take you anywhere, allowing you to specialize in analytical chemistry, biochemistry, inorganic chemistry, organic chemistry, or physical chemistry.

The Bachelor of Business Administration (BBA) degree offered through the Department of Business and Administration is designed for students who wish to pursue a career in business, in the private, public or non-profit sectors. We nurture socially conscience business leaders and entrepreneurs that are capable of adapting to the ever-changing needs of the modern business world.

The Business and Administration program develops critical thinking, analytic and decision-making abilities, oral and written communication skills, and the self-confidence to effectively apply these skills. Some courses in the program are taught using the case method, a simulation of real business situations from the perspective of the actual decision-maker. Computer-based simulations, experiential exercises, guest speakers, and field trips are also used to connect course material to the business world.  A new co-op work study program allows students to add career real work experience to their UW Degree. The Screen and Cultural Studies Specialization focuses not only on literary texts, but also on cinematic, media, and cultural texts. Courses in this area reflect an interest in literary and cultural history; literary and cinematic forms, movements, and genres; cultural and critical theory; audience and reception studies; and the intersections between literature, film and other forms of cultural production.

All students are welcome to take courses in this area, whether they choose the specialization or not.

Mathematics is often described as the "queen of the sciences".  It is essential to many fields, including engineering, finance, medicine, economics and the natural sciences.  Math is everywhere!  It is used to secure your data when you enter it online, in fraud detection, to understand medical scans, in weather prediction, for modeling wildfires and for creating efficient networks for security systems or air traffic.  Studying mathematics trains you to think critically and develops strong problem-solving skills.  

One branch of mathematics, called cryptography, helps to keep our information safe.  When you use your credit card online, mathematics is used to encrypt this information so that a third party cannot read it.  Mathematicians are also essential to national security, where their high-level problem-solving skills are used for encryption and decryption for intelligence gathering and computer security. Another branch of mathematics, called graph theory, is used to design and analyze networks, such as security, transportation or social networks.

Here you'll learn about some of the basic processes and methods involved in the narratology of comics, and how they can be used — believe it or not — to understand ancient artefacts! You'll also consider the affect of the presentation of classics in comics and our contemporary responses to that, and you'll examine how the use of different types of media can help open up new understandings of the classical world! 

French Studies offers 3 different undergraduate Major degree programs (a 3-year Bachelor of Arts,  a 4-year Bachelor of Arts and an Honours Bachelor of Arts), as well as an undergraduate Minor degree program. The three-year BBA is an excellent complement to a major or degree in another field and is intended to be readily accessible as a part of a double degree program upon completion of additional coursework.

The University of Winnipeg offers a combined degree/diploma program in Communications in cooperation with Red River College. Generally, students begin at the University of Winnipeg, completing at least 60 credit hours before proceeding to Red River, where they take the two-year Creative Communications Program. The final 12 credit hours of University of Winnipeg courses must be taken during these two years at Red River College if the student wishes to graduate within four years; otherwise, these credit hours may be completed before or after attending Red River College. Students are granted block transfer of 48 credit hours for their Creative Communications Diploma and granted a B.A. in Communications once they have received their diploma and completed the prescribed 72 credit hours of study at the University of Winnipeg.
