Students acquire a foundation in tourism related subjects including marketing, cultural issues, applied research methods, product operations and risk management. Students are then be free to explore a range of related topics such as rock climbing, surfing and skiing as well as programming, consulting and ecotourism.

The MEd program is designed for you — a working professional in education, administration, training, or employee development — who wants to assume a position as an educational leader and researcher in education, health care, private industry or government.

The MEd has been designed for maximum choice by students. In addition to completing the core courses, students select from across the elective courses. Through your elective choices, you can take advantage of a wide array of subject matter that is relevant to your current career path. You can work with your instructors to tailor your assignments to your interests and make a positive impact in your life, your career, and your community.

Developed with police and other justice agencies, this two-year program will prepare you for the challenges of a career in policing, as well as in corrections, parole, customs, and other government services at the federal, provincial or municipal levels. Your diploma credits count towards completion of an arts, business or criminology degree.

Post-baccalaureate diploma will be of interest to students who have a non-business degree, and who want to return to university for one or two years to acquire a specialty in a functional area of business in order to enhance their employment opportunities. Students with a first degree in business, but who want to change their area of focus, may complete a post-baccalaureate diploma as well.

Post-baccalaureate diplomas are also valuable to international students who wish to come to Canada to learn English, gain exposure to the culture, and study in a compressed format. Many who do so have already studied business in their own country and have received transfer credit that reduces the length of the program

The environment is a complex of biological, geological, physical, chemical, social and cultural factors that interact to influence the life of an individual or community. Our environment is threatened by global issues, such as overpopulation, climate change and habitat fragmentation. Many of these are issues caused by humans, and in turn they are threatening the well being of humans. The problems we face today are not solvable by science alone, but by an equal discovery and knowledge of culture, sociology, economics, politics and ethics.

Thompson Rivers University is ideally located to study environmental issues because of its proximity to a wide variety of diverse regional ecosystems. Kamloops is a city of about 90,000 people centred in the southern interior of British Columbia. The Thompson/Okanagan region and neighbouring Cariboo Plateau provide rare native grassland ecosystems, freshwater wetlands, lakes and rivers, and a rich diversity of forested ecosystems, all within easy access of TRU, as well as mountain and ocean ecosystems within a few hours' drive. The location of the university also provides collaborative potential with a number of neighbouring institutions and agencies, such as BC Ministry of Forests and Range, Agriculture Canada Research Station, BC Ministry of Environment, Fisheries and Oceans Canada, BC Grassland Conservation Council and Ducks Unlimited Canada.

The TRU MSc in environmental sciences program fills local, regional, provincial, national and international needs for environmental professionals. The program is designed to produce graduates who are innovative and have multi-disciplinary skills and broad knowledge in the field of environmental science. It is structured to be unique, flexible and relevant.

Learn the skills you need for a rewarding career as a generalist social work practitioner in various fields of practice, such as child welfare, mental health, addictions, women s services, family justice, corrections, health and Indigenous people. The BSW program has an orientation toward social justice, respect for diversity and social change.

Obtain knowledge on the practical applications in many areas such as physical and life sciences, finance and economics, computing and information theory, social sciences, and even fine arts. Gain an understanding of math as the science of patterns, which have evolved from roots in simple arithmetic to a complex language.

This program will be of interest to students who have a non-business degree and want to return to university for one or two years to acquire a specialty in a functional area of business. Designed for those wishing to enter a career in the technology industry, or for those wishing to pursue graduate studies, this degree consists of two years of general study, followed by two years of concentrated computing studies.

The Bachelor of Journalism degree blends theory and skill development to train students for jobs as journalists and communication specialists. The practical side of the program focuses on writing, editing, interviewing, taking photographs, and working with new technology to produce print and online publications. The theory side of the program emphasizes media law, journalistic ethics, decision-making, and critical thinking.
