Some industry experts consider special events and conventions to be the fastest growing segment of the Canadian tourism industry. This program is designed to provide a practical overview of the function, skills and knowledge required to successfully plan, organize, manage, promote, and evaluate a festival, convention, trade show, or special event. Event planning is a very detail-oriented business. As a result, this program will appeal to individuals who have a high regard for details and the creative ability to manage special events and conventions from inception to fruition.

The Marketing Major is a challenging program that prepares students to assume many of the most important positions in business. Marketers, as they like to call themselves, are a company's creative force. Focusing on the marketing mix or four Ps of product, price, promotion, and place, they devise potentially profitable new product or service ideas that meet the needs of specific target markets, and then develop and execute the detailed plans needed for their implementation. Other employees in accounting, finance, or human resource management simply assist marketing professionals in this primary task and depend on them to generate the revenues needed for survival.

After graduation, students secure employment with many types of organizations such as advertising firms, consumer product companies, retail chains, wholesalers, media outlets like TV or radio stations, auto dealerships, tourist resorts, government ministries, and non-profits like hospitals. An increasing number have also been successful in starting their own small businesses, while a few have gone on to earn graduate degrees in hopes of pursuing careers in teaching or research at the college or university level.

Obtain knowledge on the practical applications in many areas such as physical and life sciences, finance and economics, computing and information theory, social sciences, and even fine arts. Gain an understanding of math as the science of patterns, which have evolved from roots in simple arithmetic to a complex language.

Post-baccalaureate diploma will be of interest to students who have a non-business degree, and who want to return to university for one or two years to acquire a specialty in a functional area of business in order to enhance their employment opportunities. Students with a first degree in business, but who want to change their area of focus, may complete a post-baccalaureate diploma as well.

Post-baccalaureate diplomas are also valuable to international students who wish to come to Canada to learn English, gain exposure to the culture, and study in a compressed format. Many who do so have already studied business in their own country and have received transfer credit that reduces the length of the program

Get the first-year knowledge you need for all engineering disciplines while developing hands-on practical skills for Foundation and Level 2 electrical instrumentation apprenticeship. Graduates can pursue second-year engineering at the University of Victoria, a Bachelor of Science, a Bachelor of Technology Leadership, or a Bachelor of Technology.

The MEd program is designed for you — a working professional in education, administration, training, or employee development — who wants to assume a position as an educational leader and researcher in education, health care, private industry or government.

The Culinary Arts Certificate program combines classroom theory with hands-on training as you rotate through two-week blocks in a commercial-grade kitchen.
Develop a solid understanding of the entire kitchen-to-table experience as you cook for and serve real guests in the Scratch Café and Accolades Dining Room. Additionally, you can take part in wine tastings, gala dinners and other high-profile community events.
Passionate instructors train and guide you in small groups through the different techniques and styles of cooking. Top off your culinary education with skills in kitchen management, human resource development, nutrition and specialty diets.
Our dedicated faculty inspire a lifelong passion for excellence in the culinary industry that embraces environmental, social and economic sustainability. Professional Cook 3 is also available for students interested in completing their apprenticeship.

Upon graduation, you will receive:

• A TRU Culinary Arts Certificate
• Professional Cook 1 and 2 certification under the Industry Training Authority
