Horticulture is the culture of vegetables, fruits, herbs, flowers, turf grass, and ornamental plants. The settings for this culture may extend from the back yard grower to large commercial operations, such as green houses, orchards, vegetable farms, turfgrass operations, forestry seedling nurseries, garden centers, golf courses, municipal parks, landscaping, and landscape maintenance firms.

People working in the horticulture industry should have a strong interest in plants and like the hands on aspect of the work. Depending on the scope of work, many of the positions within the industry involve working outside in a variety of weather conditions.

The Accounting Technician Diploma is a two-year program designed to prepare graduates for positions as para-professionals that serve alongside professional accountants in industry, public practice, and government doing much of the support work. Graduates find employment with public accounting firms working on files and basic tax returns; as payroll, accounts receivable, accounts payable, or general accounting clerks in larger organizations; or as bookkeepers with smaller businesses.

The Bachelor of Computing Science degree consists of two years of concentrated computing studies preceded by two years of general study. It is designed for those wishing to enter a in Computing Science, or for those wishing to pursue graduate studies. The program will mainly concentrate on small to medium business environments.

The degree will:
Enable students in academic streams to obtain a computing science degree.
Allow students with a 2 or 3 year Computing Science Diploma to continue their education and obtain a Degree in Computing Science.
Permit students in the B.Sc. and B.A. degrees more course options, including obtaining a Minor in Computing Science.
Allow past students the ability to upgrade skills to maintain or enhance employability.
Allow employees required to upgrade their skills, but not necessarily interested in completing the degree, to take needed courses.

Program Highlights
Explore a career in the technology industry—software and hardware design, system architecture, operating system structure, and modeling and simulation. The BCS degree consists of two years of general study followed by two years of concentrated computing studies. Double degree option with Business Administration available.

The finance major is fun, interesting, and rewarding from a money income perspective. The profession is divided into two main fields: investments and corporate finance. Investments deals with a professional such as a financial advisor or money manager choosing to invest in GICs, stocks, bonds, options, futures, swaps, real estate, commodities such as gold or collectibles, to name a few. The primary goal is to make your client rich. Another purpose in wealth management is to minimize the risk of your client’s portfolio perhaps through the use of derivatives and their strategies such as butterfly spreads, call bear spreads, put bull spreads, collars, and straddles. Potential employers include banks, insurance companies, pension funds, private equity firms, hedge funds, and mutual fund companies among others.

The other field is corporate finance. Professionals here may focus on financing an organization's daily operations and future growth. Sources of capital to finance the firm include vehicles such as lines of credit, commercial paper, term loans, mortgages, bonds, leases, venture capital, and IPOs to fund seasonal build-ups in working capital and major asset purchases. Additional specialization in corporate finance may be cash management, accounts receivable management like collections, payables management, and working in mergers and acquisitions teams. Possible employers are corporations, not-for-profit firms, governments and their agencies.

The Architectural & Engineering Technology Program (ARET) at Thompson Rivers University (TRU) emphasizes the design processes in building, civil and mechanical technologies, involving design projects for building structures, subdivisions, municipal services, and electrical, plumbing, lighting and HVAC (heating, ventilating and air-conditioning) systems.

Courses in architectural design, statics and strength of materials, structural analysis, fluid mechanics, mechanical design, electrical design, steel design, wood design and reinforced concrete design will round out student's problem solving skills in engineering and building design. ARET students will also acquire knowledge in construction management, construction contracts, specifications, estimating, building regulations, technical writing and construction surveying.

The accounting major is a rigorous program that prepares students to become an integral part of an organization's financial management team or to enter public practice as an auditor, tax specialist, or consultant. Governments, non-profits, major corporations, small businesses, and high-worth individuals all need accountants to manage their financial affairs.

The two main focusses of accounting are public and management accounting. Public accountants provide audit, tax, and consulting services to the organizations that engage their services. Management accountants work for an organization providing professional service to that same organization like a corporation or government entity.

Upon graduation, most students choose to pursue the Chartered Professional Accountant (CPA) designation. With the Accounting Major, students will receive all Exemptions from the CPA Prerequisite Education Program (PREP) and move directly to the CPA Professional Educational Program (PEP) if they meet the Grade Requirement. Here they engage in advanced study and learn how to integrate material relating to the six CPA core competency areas of financial reporting, strategy and governance, management accounting, audit and assurance, finance, and taxation. PEP consists of five modules and an exam preparation course and culminates in students writing the rigorous Common Final Exam. After completing the 30-month work experience requirement, students are awarded the CPA designation.

Once they are established in the profession, many accountants go on to earn a second, more specialized designation. Some also complete graduate degrees and pursue careers in education or research at the college or university level. No matter what they choose, accountants are professionals who make a life-long commitment to remaining current in the discipline. The CPA society enforces this through its professional development requirements.

For those students wanting only an exposure to accounting, an accounting minor is also available.

Power up your future as a software engineer today. Through our program, you will learn to apply engineering principles to computer software. You will gain technical knowledge and skills in how to design, develop, maintain, test and evaluate software. As you move through the program, your courses will include areas such as engineering, business, computing science and project management.

Software engineer grads do more than program. They bring creative solutions to manufacturing, transportation, health care, government and digital media. These sectors rely on computer tools and applications, which our grads manage.

Software engineering is the study of how software is built and maintained and includes project management and testing. Our students like the program’s practical, hands-on approach.

Co-op program:-
Co-operative education is a requirement of the degree. During your Co-op experience you will receive paid and relevant work experience, allowing you to apply theory learned in the classroom, explore interests related to the field of study and advance skills as a professional while strengthening your resumé. In the fourth year of study, students are required to complete two mandatory co-op work terms.

Our program is designed to meet the criteria of the Engineers Canada Accreditation Board. Graduates will meet all of the educational requirements for registration as a professional engineer through APEGBC. Up to 12 months of co-op work may count towards the work experience required for professional designation.

Combines rigorous training in the ideas and concepts of the physical world with practical experience in electronics, computing, data acquisition, optics and other fundamental topics. A strong base for the students to expand their expertise in applied science and technology fields.

Our environment is threatened by global issues, such as overpopulation, climate change and habitat fragmentation. Many of these are issues caused by humans, and in turn they are threatening the well being of humans. The problems we face today are not solvable by science alone, but by an equal discovery and knowledge of culture, sociology, economics, politics and ethics.

Thompson Rivers University is ideally located to study environmental issues because of its proximity to a wide variety of diverse regional ecosystems. Kamloops is a city of about 90,000 people centred in the southern interior of British Columbia. The Thompson/Okanagan region and neighbouring Cariboo Plateau provide rare native grassland ecosystems, freshwater wetlands, lakes and rivers, and a rich diversity of forested ecosystems, all within easy access of TRU, as well as mountain and ocean ecosystems within a few hours' drive.
