With so many fascinating science programs offered at Trent, it can be difficult to know which degree to choose. If you’re interested in general sciences but haven’t yet decided on a specific program, this flexible first-year pathway is for you. Honours Science allows you to explore courses across various science programs before declaring a major or joint-major in your second year. You can even choose to combine different disciplines, taking courses from programs across both the sciences and arts.

Program Paths
Start in Honours Science in first year and move into the science program of your choice in second year – Environmental Science, Biology, Chemistry, Mathematics, Physics, Psychology… which major will you choose?

How do social constructs like gender, race and class impact the experience of individuals? How do movements for social justice support progress towards a more equitable world? As a Sociology student at Trent, you will explore and question a diverse range of social topics, completing your studies with an understanding of social organizations and institutions and people’s place in them. These explorations can take place both in the classroom and beyond – through the new B.A. Co-op stream you can put skills to action across three work terms in professional settings. This program is progressive, critical and timely in the way it engages students in not only understanding but also acting on the consequences of social change with practical learning components. Through this degree, you’ll explore and question a diverse range of social topics, completing your studies with a heightened understanding of human relationships and society, rooted in the social sciences and inspired by a passion for social justice. Accounting is more than just crunching numbers — it’s the essential language of business. This specialization in the School of Business is designed to give you the opportunity to study accounting in depth, preparing you for a potential future as a Chartered Professional Accountant (CPA).

Nurses play a pivotal role in everyday healthcare by working hard to positively impact the lives of countless individuals in need. Accredited by the Canadian Association of Schools of Nursing, Trent’s B.Sc.N. offers aspiring nurses the option of pursuing either a collaborative or compressed degree with an emphasis on a holistic approach to healthcare, spanning a variety of nursing contexts. Starting in your first year, you’ll be immersed in both theory and practice, developing important skills through lectures, seminars, case studies, simulation labs, online coursework, and clinical practice. Trent’s P.N. to B.Sc.N. program enables students to fast track through the program in less than two years, after completing a two-semester Post-Bridge Practical Nursing to Bachelor of Science in Nursing bridge at George Brown College.

Politics impacts all aspects of life, and importantly, quality of life. In Political Studies at Trent, you will find yourself debating and exploring ideas around democracy and global politics as you examine power relations and relationships between the state, business, and citizens. It is exciting and enlightening to learn how these relationships influence each of our lives, and more broadly, political, economic, and social change nationally and internationally. Our small class sizes and interactive student-professor relationships build confidence, skills, and knowledge for a variety of careers.

World Politics
Studies how human societies deal with various forms of global change (economic, cultural, and political). A principal objective is to enable students to develop an understanding of how the international system is shaped by the great historical turning-points and understand key concepts in international relations.
World Politics emphasizes a critical understanding of the many dimensions of ‘globalization’:

• Peace and security issues
• Nationalism

• Democratization
• North American economic integration
• The centrality of the European Union, the Middle East and the Asia-Pacific region in redefining world order

Media shape our view of the world and orient us in it. You can best navigate this environment by marrying theory and practice. In Media Studies, you’ll examine the influence of advertising and ideology, the political economy of media corporations, and the principles of multimedia design. You’ll also benefit from our interdisciplinary curriculum, learning across subjects from the humanities to the sciences.
