The Geophysics program uses principles from Physics to understand the structure and dynamics of the Earth below its surface. Geophysical surveys can be used to locate energy sources, mineral and petroleum deposits, artifacts, and more. By undetanding the Earth & amp;apos;s core, Geophysicists can also assess natural hazards like earthquakes and volcanoes.

The General route is the most flexible route in the Bachelor of Design program. In addition to the core Design curriculum, you’ll have the opportunity to select options from the Faculty of Arts and the Faculty of Science. You can also combine Visual Communication Design and Industrial Design courses with Fine Arts courses and options to gain experience in a variety of disciplines.

The Department of Mechanical Engineering at the University of Alberta offers a broad-based program that prepares graduates for immediate employment in a wide variety of industries ranging from transportation to medicine. You will gain a thorough understanding of mechanical engineering by taking courses in five major areas: solid mechanics, dynamics, fluid mechanics, thermodynamics, and design. Anthropology explores the origins and history of the human species through investigating biological, cultural, and linguistic diversity in human populations. You will be able to take courses related to four major subfields of Anthropology: Archaeology, Biological, Linguistic, and Cultural Anthropology. Our faculty members have expertise in a range of societies and cultures, past and present, and a range of world areas. Through your courses, you may be exposed to laboratories where you can identify and interpret artifacts and fossils, or the opportunity to conduct and present original research.

This major can also be taken as part of a BA Honors degree.

The University of Alberta offers a BA in Criminology, which is the study of crime and social responses to crime. Entrepreneurship and Innovation
Entrepreneurship and Innovation are vital to economic development, wealth creation, and societal well-being.

Dynamic socioeconomic systems encourage and support the creation of new businesses and social enterprises, as well as the entrepreneurial renewal of and innovation in existing organizations. The Entrepreneurship and Innovation major aims to help students develop an entrepreneurial mindset. Our curriculum is complemented with co-curricular activities organized via entrepreneurship HUB (eHUB).

This combined program, offered jointly with the Faculty of Education, allows you to earn two degrees in five years, preparing you to become a teacher for Grades 7-12 while providing you with additional expertise. The first three years of this program are taken in the Faculty of Native Studies, while the last two years are taken in the Faculty of Education. You can choose to major in either Native Studies or Cree.

Why the Faculty of Native Studies?

We are the only independent Faculty of Native Studies in Canada, with small class sizes and a diverse student population of both Indigenous and non-Indigenous students. We are student-centered, with a close-knit community of students, professors, and staff. We host regular Tea and Bannock potlucks, an annual tipi raising and take-down, and Games Night with the Dean.

We are research-focused, with opportunities for undergraduate students to participate in research projects. Our courses incorporate traditional Indigenous knowledge and heritage as well as contemporary Indigenous experiences.

Why study Petroleum Engineering? (Co-operative)

Petroleum Engineering is more than just oil and gas: in addition to energy, petroleum-based products such as plastics are key components of virtually every consumer product and medical device we use.

Petroleum engineers apply scientific understanding and technology in the extraction and management of hydrocarbon resources while also exploring ways to preserve and protect the environment.

For the past five decades, the University of Alberta has offered the only accredited BSc Petroleum Engineering degree program in Canada. Situated in Canada's primary oil and natural-gas producing region, we offer our students a distinct advantage by providing numerous research opportunities within the petroleum industry.

Co-op option
This degree can be taken as a Co-op (co-operative education) program. Through the Co-op program, you will have the opportunity to complete paid, supervised work terms throughout your degree. Co-op programs are great way to challenge yourself, gain relevant work experience, and make connections to industry before you graduate!

Most co-op programs include five work terms lasting four months each, in addition to the usual eight terms (four years) of full-time study. Therefore, co-op programs require five years to complete.
