This program examines how the animal agriculture (livestock and poultry) and food industries interface, through an understanding of animal and human disease, animal nutrition, microbiology, physiology, behaviour and production. You’ll work closely with agricultural animals and have many opportunities for industry interaction.

Accounting is the practice of gathering, analyzing, and communicating financial information, and is a crucial aspect of every business and organization. Anyone who wants to be successful in business must have a strong understanding of “the numbers," so whether you are interested in accounting specifically, or financial management in general, you should consider the Accounting major.

To pursue a career in accounting, you can follow your BCom degree with a Chartered Professional Accountant (CPA) certification.

Why study Molecular, Cellular, and Developmental Biology? (Specialization program)

• This program focuses on molecular structures and the processes of cellular life and their roles in the function, reproduction, and development of living organisms.
• In the first two years of the program, you’ll concentrate on topics in genetics, microbiology, and plant molecular genetics; after that you can pursue your own area of focus.
• This program can be taken as part of a BSc Specialization or BSc Honors degree.

Why take the BSc Specialization degree?

• The Bachelor of Science Specialization degree provides a focused education in one program. You will take most of your courses in your main subject area, and are expected to maintain a higher standard of academic achievement. A Specialization degree can provide the background to help you proceed to a higher degree, but its primary function is to provide a comprehensive education at the undergraduate level.
• This program can also be taken as part of a BSc Honors degree.

Why study Mathematical Sciences? (BSc/BEd combined degree)

This program allows you to study a diverse mix of courses in mathematics, including Computing Science, Mathematics, Mathematical Physics, and Statistics, preparing you to teach at the junior high and high school level.

Why take the BSc / BEd combined degree?

Do you dream of becoming a Science teacher? This combined program allows you to complete two degrees from the Faculty of Science and the Faculty of Education — a Bachelor of Science (with Specialization) and a Bachelor of Education (Secondary) — in just five years, preparing you to become a high school or junior high teacher in your area of expertise.

This program provides an introduction to the principles of electronics, electromagnetics, and photonics as they apply at the nanoscale level. By selecting this option, students will learn about the processes involved in the fabrication of nanoscale structures and become familiar with the computer-aided design tools necessary for analyzing phenomena at high levels of miniaturization.

Co-op option
This degree can be taken as a Co-op (co-operative education) program. Through the Co-op program, you will have the opportunity to complete paid, supervised work terms throughout your degree. Co-op programs are great way to challenge yourself, gain relevant work experience, and make connections to industry before you graduate!

Most co-op programs include five work terms lasting four months each, in addition to the usual eight terms (four years) of full-time study. Therefore, co-op programs require five years to complete.

Please note: If you are applying directly from high school, you must apply to the qualifying first year of Engineering. After you complete your first year you will have the opportunity to choose a specific degree program.

Why study Chemistry? (Honors)

Our Honors Chemistry degree is a structured program designed to train professional chemists whose knowledge can be applied to all industries. The Honors program provides our highest level of specialized training and includes a chemical research component under the direction of a member of the department. This opportunity for research and mentorship makes it the ideal path for further advanced education in Chemistry. Our breadth of courses, laboratory training, internship, and research opportunities give you all the resources you need to stand out from the crowd and take your education in new directions.

This program is accredited by the Canadian Society for Chemistry.

Chemistry can also be taken as part of a BSc General or a BSc with Specialization.

Why study Physics? (Secondary Education)

• Do you dream of becoming a Science teacher? Physics can be taken as a major or minor as part of a Bachelor of Secondary Education.
• In addition to Physics, areas of study include Astronomy, Biochemistry, Biology, Chemistry, Environmental Sciences, and Mathematics.

The Drama major, taken as part of a Bachelor of Arts degree, combines theory and practice within a well-rounded liberal arts setting. You will be exposed to every aspect of the theatrical process, including acting, clowning, and improvisation; playwriting, directing, production, and design; and critical analysis and theory. You’ll also have the opportunity to pursue your own independent project in research and/or practice.

The Drama major can also be taken as part of a BA Honors degree.

This program focuses on the areas of plant growth, soils, and factors affecting plant production. You’ll gain knowledge and practical skills in plant biotechnology, breeding, and production management techniques used to develop, grow and market high-quality and high yield crops.

Why study Drama? (Secondary Education)

• Do you dream of becoming a Drama teacher? Drama can be taken as a major or minor as part of a Bachelor of Secondary Education.
• Areas of focus include theatre history, performance analysis, scene study, playwriting, directing, physical comedy, and solo performance.
• You can also take this major as part of a Bachelor of Arts (Drama) / Bachelor of Education combined degree.

Teaching is a calling, and we are dedicated to helping you become the homeroom teacher that your students will remember for a lifetime. Our Secondary Education program in the Faculty of Education prepares you to pass on your love of learning and discovery in almost any subject to students in grades 7-12. You’ll choose two areas of specialization — a major and minor — allowing you to pursue your passion and customize your experience.

The Secondary Education program includes a five-week Introductory Professional Term (IPT) and a nine-week Advanced Professional Term (APT). You will typically teach in your Major subject in both your IPT and APT.
This degree is normally taken as a four-year program but can also be taken as an after-degree. Upon completion of this program, you will be recommended for teacher certification in Alberta.
