Statistics is the study of the collection, organization, analysis, interpretation and presentation of data. In a world that is increasingly data-driven, knowing how to extract and interpret information is key. Statistics help evaluate ideas, test hypotheses and give clarity to complex issues.

If your passion is the environment, statisticians help manage our natural resources and understand the impact of climate change. If your passion is public policy, statisticians work with governments and non-governmental organizations to measure the health of the economy and assess the effectiveness of programs. If your passion is sports, statisticians help improve teams through player drafting, signing and development. No matter where your passion lies, you are likely to find statisticians active in that area.

The major in applied statistics is structured to provide a firm theoretical background in statistics and to allow you to apply specific statistical techniques within your discipline of interest. The program has three possible concentrations:

• Psychology

Each of these disciplines makes extensive use of statistics in the analysis of real-world data. Students in this major and any chosen concentration will learn about statistical resources and benefit from training across multiple departments.

Explore this performance-intensive learning experience as a singer or instrumentalist.  You receive one-on-one instruction from master performer-teachers, attend numerous guest artist classes and have performance opportunities throughout the year.  If you are interested in composition, you will work with professional composers and have the opportunity to write for the University’s many ensembles though our composer-in-residence program.  Recitals showcase your development and accomplishments as a growing musician and your experience is enhanced by participation in ensembles. With 24-hour access, the individual practice studios and composition labs provide you with the freedom to hone your skills on campus.

Indigenous Studies explores art, law, philosophy, health, politics, history, gender studies, ecology, business, customs and language - all from a unique Indigenous perspective - making this one of the most sought-after programs of its kind in Canada.

In this program, you’ll have the opportunity to investigate First Nations’, Métis and Inuit (FNMI) history, heritage and culture, as well as the contemporary issues that face FNMI communities.

As a student of Indigenous Studies, you’ll have access to Indigenous instructors, who are often nationally or internationally renowned, seasoned professionals with real-world experience.

Sociology is the study of society, including the interaction between individuals, groups, and institutions. Sociological study helps develop original ways of looking at the world and the individual’s place within it.

The application of sociological thinking can lead to a better understanding of social problems and issues and suggestions about how these issues may be overcome in real-world terms.

By studying sociology, you will gain insight into how people interact with one another and how values and beliefs both shape and are shaped by the structures and processes around us. The primary goal of the discipline is to stimulate sociological thinking — applying imagination and critical analysis to the many facets of social life.

As a sociology student, you will be exposed to a wide variety of alternative theories of social behaviour, structure, and change through a wide range of courses on topics such as: crime, religion, work, gender, age, ethnicity, politics, culture and health.

Command a wide range of technologies and techniques in graphic design, web design and development, interaction design, 3D modelling, animation, video game design and development, screenwriting, cinema production and studies, and new media theory. You will learn from and work with dedicated professors who are professional artists and scholars.

As a senior student, you can choose a new media generalist path, or follow one of three streams:

• Web and graphic design
• Animation and gaming
• Cinema production

As part of uLethbridge's liberal education philosophy, you'll also take electives that complement your new media course work and diversify your portfolio.

In your final year of the BFA-New Media, you can choose either an industry internship or our advanced studio course. Each option provides particular benefits as you transition into a career or graduate studies.

The internship is a structured learning experience - locally, nationally or abroad - where you'll refine your skills working in a professional setting and gain a better sense of career possibilities.

The advanced studio course focuses on creative applications and you'll complete a self-directed project. If you are interested in research, graduate studies, or simply want an academic challenge, you can add an Honours Thesis to your course. The designation will appears on your official transcript and degree parchment.

Mathematics is the study of structure and patterns in numbers and shapes. It is an active research area, providing a language, theories and models to solve complex problems across a wide variety of scientific, industrial and economic sectors.

Over the past century, discoveries in pure mathematics have found unexpected applications in science, industry and finance, such as: secure internet transactions, Google, DNA sequencing and the stock market. 

As a math student, you will study both pure and applied mathematics, giving you the opportunity to see real-world applications of your studies.

The program offers courses in four main areas: algebra, analysis, number theory and geometry, and statistics. Many students opt to combine math with courses in physics, computer science, chemistry, economics, management or other areas of interest.

A mathematics education provides a solid training that is sought after by employers and allows flexibility in your career choices. You will learn to tackle difficult problems employing a variety of theories and statistical models. Computer science is the study of algorithms and data structures and their applications in designing new and efficient solutions to industrial, technological, environmental or social problems.

Learn to tackle difficult problems using a variety of high-tech tools and approaches, and effectively communicate your expertise to others by coupling your technical learning with a solid grounding in liberal education.

The program is designed to enable you gain both theoretical knowledge and practical experience, including access to state-of-the-art hardware and software in our three computer labs whenever you need to use them.

Through our rigorous program of hands-on theatre experiences, you refine your artistic techniques and develop lifelong skills such as creativity, confidence, and discipline. Courses in theatre history and theory provide a comprehensive understanding of drama’s essential role in society.

Our innovative program highlights the connections between performance, directing, and devised theatre, ensuring appreciation for historic traditions and anticipating future trends.

The Indigenous Art program prepares you for success in the complex and evolving fields of Indigenous art history and contemporary art practices. Combine critical studies in art history and theory with extensive hands-on museum and gallery experience. Study visual, material, and cultural production from a global perspective, and develop a frame of reference for understanding imagery and material culture.

Gain a deeper knowledge of historical and contemporary art practices through your studies and your work with the University’s extensive art collection of more than 16,000 objects, learning to manage and conserve artwork and curate exhibitions.
