Biology is the study of life as it has evolved and is evolving on earth. All aspects of life are examined, from molecular processes inside cells to large-scale ecological interactions between organisms in their environment, and how the changing environment shapes these interactions.

Environmental Science examines the physical, chemical, and biological components of the Earth’s environment, its diverse systems, and the complex ways in which they interact. Environmental scientists use a variety of scientific and analytical techniques to measure environmental parameters, to evaluate the state of environmental systems, and to project the changes in environmental systems as a result of human activities and climate change. Natural and physical systems behavior is key to evaluating the implications of human activities such as agriculture, industry, and resource extraction, processing, and use. Environmental problems such as contamination and pollution, global warming, and biodiversity loss are studied with regard to past, present, and future practices and solutions.

Mathematics is the study of quantity, structure, space, and change. Mathematicians seek out patterns and formulate new conjectures which provide the language, reasoning, and analytic tools that many other disciplines use to investigate their areas.

In this program the emphasis is on Mathematics and another field of study. For example: Mathematics and Computer Science; Mathematics and Economics; or Mathematics and Statistics.

English Literature courses cover literature from the medieval period to the present and provide instruction in theoretical approaches and critical methods. The program not only introduces students to an array of literary genres but also develops their creative and interpretive capabilities. The aim is to provide comprehensive historical coverage, to expand students' writing skills, and to promote the kind of analysis and argumentation that enables them to express their ideas clearly and effectively. The program also offers courses in Creative Writing.

Students in the co-op program have an amazing opportunity to meet employers, get career support, and complete 12-months of paid work experience before graduation. Students in many disciplines are drawn to Computer Science to expand their education and make new contributions to their areas. Whether you study Computer Science as a major, a joint major, or a minor, courses in Computer Science are an essential part of a comprehensive university education.

Genetics is the science of heredity, which deals with the mechanisms of inheritance. The Genetics program is interdisciplinary, comprising courses from Biological Sciences, Microbiology, Chemistry, Arts, Medicine and Agricultural and Food Science. The study of Genetics is divided into three broad areas: Classical genetics, population genetics, and molecular genetics. Students will study advances in medicine, agricultural techniques, heritable IQ, genetically modified organisms, genetic counselling and gene therapy. The Honours and cooperative work-study (co-op) programs provide experience in government, private sector and research laboratories.

The Leadership and Organizations major draws on foundational courses in organizational behaviour and organizational theory to build insight into successful leadership.

Leadership and Organizations is an ideal second major in combination with any of the functional majors at Asper. The skills learned in a Leadership and Organizations major will equip you to more effectively analyze, advocate, lead and manage. 

The Art History program offers students an opportunity to consider, in a cultural context, both Western and non-Western artistic traditions with an emphasis on the former from the Renaissance to the present. While all courses acknowledge methodological issues, the program also offers courses in art theory and criticism at the second and third-year levels. Students enrolled in this program broaden their knowledge of art production with studio electives.

The BFA Honours degree allows you to complete an additional year of study including art history and optional studio electives.

To transfer into the honours program, you must first successfully complete 69 credit hours of study in the Art History general program, with a degree GPA of 2.5. If you are a current student and wish to transfer to the BFA Art History honours program,

Students pursuing Latin American Studies learn about the cultural, political, social, and economic dynamics of a multifaceted and diverse region comprising over twenty countries, different geographic regions, and a rich history. They will also learn about conflicts generated by unequal relations of power, and fundamental issues such as human rights, Indigenous mobilization, and political democratization. This interdisciplinary program features courses from various departments, including Anthropology, History and French, Spanish, and Italian.
