The Interdisciplinary Health Program offers education and training leading to a Bachelor of Health Sciences degree. The Interdisciplinary Health Program (IHP) is a joint program between the Rady Faculty of Health Sciences in partnership with the Faculties of Arts and Science. Classes take place at the Fort Garry campus.

Our program focuses on health promotion. Students gain an understanding of the determinants of optimum health and well-being and the actions and circumstances that maintain those conditions. Health and wellness are understood in the context of the individual, the community and society with a particular focus on Manitoba and its peoples.

Psychology is the scientific study of behaviour and mental processes. It is also the profession that applies the accumulated knowledge of this science to practical problems. Psychologists and their work can be classified into three general categories: Research Psychology, Applied Psychology, and Clinical/Counselling Psychology. Bachelor of Arts programs in psychology offer comprehensive training that will provide an essential foundation for pursuing careers within any of these three areas.

Microbiology is the study of microscopic organisms: bacteria, viruses, fungi, protozoa and algae. Programs provide a comprehensive study of modern microbiology ranging from environmental to medical to molecular microbiology. Many courses include laboratory components to develop skills in microbiological techniques.

The BHSt program requires the completion of 120 credit hours of required and elective coursework; this includes a minimum of 18 credit hours of concentration electives. Students must declare at least one concentration.

Concentrations

• Health Policy, Planning and Evaluation
  • This concentration provides foundational knowledge related to health policy development and related evaluation, and programming services. This can be a potential route for individuals seeking careers in areas such as health policy analysis or program planning and evaluation coordination.
• Health Promotion and Education
  • This concentration would be a route through which students pursuing a career as a home economics teacher could obtain their ‘teachable subjects’ in family studies and nutrition. Students should consult with academic advisors in the Faculty of Education as additional training will be required.
  • Students who pursue this concentration can also explore future career opportunities as community health educators, health-related fundraisers, health and safety coordinators, or professional home economists (PHEc).
• Family Health
  • This concentration is suitable for students interested in family social science. It provides the educational background suitable for a future career as a community wellness worker, victim services worker, youth care worker and residential care manager.

The Faculty of Kinesiology and Recreation Management offers four-year degree program that has a base of shared core courses to ensure students experience the interconnections across the faculty and its related fields of practice.

Students in the co-op program have an amazing opportunity to meet employers, get career support, and complete 12-months of paid work experience before graduation. Students in many disciplines are drawn to Computer Science to expand their education and make new contributions to their areas. Whether you study Computer Science as a major, a joint major, or a minor, courses in Computer Science are an essential part of a comprehensive university education.

This Faculty of Arts interdisciplinary program explores the massive social and cultural changes in Central and East European countries that have dominated the world's attention. In addition to language courses, the CEES program also offers courses on literatures, cinemas, and cultures of the region, the issues of state formation and democratization, privatization and the creation of new market economies, and more. There are several active student clubs that enhance learning and travel study programs are also available.

The Diploma in Agriculture is a hands on two-year program which prepares students to manage a farm or work in an agricultural business. Courses cover everything from agricultural production to marketing and business management. Students will develop the communication and leadership skills needed to thrive in the industry whether in marketing and financial services, livestock and crop supply, crop management, agricultural merchandising, or managing a farm.

Co-op options
The Cooperative Education option integrates the student’s academic study with practical work experience in industry, government and the farming profession. Cooperative Education in the Diploma of Agriculture incorporates one summer work term after the first year of study.
