Astronomy and astrophysics examine the universe, galaxies and stars as well as phenomena such as the birth of stars, how explosions of stars create fast moving cosmic ray particles and pulsars, and how the rotation of a galaxy reveals the presence of dark matter. A planetarium and two astronomical observatories enhance this program.  

Mathematics is the study of quantity, structure, space, and change. Mathematicians seek out patterns and formulate new conjectures which provide the language, reasoning, and analytic tools that many other disciplines use to investigate their areas.

Good accounting results in good decision-making. The study of accounting gives students the knowledge and professional judgment to determine the most useful way to communicate financial information.

The accounting major is the first step in obtaining a thorough understanding of accounting. The accounting major will give you the knowledge and professional judgment to determine the most useful way to communicate financial information.

After graduation, many students continue in their accounting studies and pursue one of the following professional designations: Chartered Accountant (CA), Certified General Accountant (CGA), or Certified Management Accountant (CMA.)

Political Studies examines the dynamics of human interaction in which individuals and groups compete, and cooperate, to achieve their goals, in the context of competing visions, values and interests. It is therefore a study of power, particularly in connection with law and public policy. Because people often disagree about, say, civil liberties, sustainable development, and distributive justice, they divide themselves into various groups: nations, political parties, trade unions, business associations, environmental organizations, to mention but a few. Political studies tries to understand what happens when individuals and groups struggle with one another to achieve their different goals. Within states there are mechanisms called governments to oversee and guide political struggle, and studying politics can help us better appreciate why various types of government behave the way they do.

Agribusiness is the business and economics of food. It focuses on all of the factors that influence how food travels around the globe, including: finance, government policy, international trade, risk management, the environment, food safety, and regional development.

The Bachelor of Science (Agribusiness) degree gives students a thorough understanding of Canada's food supply chain, from producer to consumer. Students learn how to market and distribute food products to customers within the community and around the world.

Co-op programs
The Cooperative Education option integrates the student's academic study with practical work experience in industry, government and the farming profession. To obtain the co-op designation, students must complete three 4-month work terms. Two of these can be during the summer. This program option will extend your degree time by one semester (slightly longer if a student takes more work terms in winter).

Microbiology is the study of microscopic organisms: bacteria, viruses, fungi, protozoa and algae. Programs provide a comprehensive study of modern microbiology ranging from environmental to medical to molecular microbiology. Many courses include laboratory components to develop skills in microbiological techniques. The Honours and cooperative work-study (co-op) programs provide experience in government, private sector and research laboratories.

Criminology is concerned with the complex social phenomena of crime and criminalization. The criminology program engages students in a systematic study of the nature and extent of crime and criminalization along with the array of agencies and programs designed to prevent, control, and respond to criminal activity over time and place. Attention is given to specific issues related to gender, race, class and crime, youth and crime, violence and victimization, criminal law and procedure, policing and crime prevention, restorative justice, and global criminology. Courses in the criminology program are taught primarily from a sociological perspective, with emphasis placed on research, program development, and policy analysis.

Biotechnology is the application of the principles of chemistry, biochemistry and microbiology to the development of new technologies.
