Biotechnology is the application of the principles of chemistry, biochemistry and microbiology to the development of new technologies. The Theatre Program in the Department of English, Film, and Theatre is focused yet multi-faceted, offering both creative and intellectual opportunities. An intensive, hands-on experience in every aspect of play creation is a hallmark of University of Manitoba Theatre. The interrelationship between the academic program and the Black Hole Theatre Company provides students with excellent balance in the creation and interpretation of theatre. We provide instruction in theoretical approaches and critical and practical methods. Both Film and Theatre courses offer options for studying performance, production, and interpretation.

As society increasingly moves into the digital age, our need for those who can understand the management of information technology and information systems grow.

If you like working with technology and people, then a major in Management Information Systems is for you. You will learn how to determine what the information needs of a company are and how to design information systems that get real business done. You will study various kinds of software and learn how to manage an IT Project from start to finish.

The job market for MIS professionals is growing with an ongoing shortage across Manitoba and Canada. Our alumni are workings at companies like Great West Life, IBM, Investors Group, Wawanesa, and Standard Aero. Organizations will always have a need for in-house personnel or consultants with the MIS skill set taught at the Asper School of Business.

Psychology is the scientific study of behaviour and mental processes. It is also the profession that applies the accumulated knowledge of this science to practical problems. Psychologists and their work can be classified into three general categories: Research Psychology, Applied Psychology, and Clinical/Counselling Psychology.

The millennium from the end of the Roman empire to the Renaissance (500-1500 C.E.) was a formative period in the history of European civilization. This program offers students a broad approach to the period, through its literature, art, languages, history, music, and more.

Biochemistry is the study of the chemical composition, activity and constituents of living systems. Both Microbiology and Chemistry share in the teaching and administration of the program. 

Interesting courses and unique opportunities
Within the Biochemistry programs, you can take courses and conduct research in topics ranging from chemistry to microbiology to biology including: cellular signaling and cancer biology, molecular biology, structural biology, biophysics and bioenergetics, genomics and genetics. Many courses include laboratory components to develop skills in scientific techniques. 

Physical Geography examines the natural and physical systems of the Earth including the atmosphere, biosphere, cryosphere (ice and snow), hydrosphere (water) and lithosphere (land surface). Physical geographers also look at the connections between these systems, how they change over time, and the implications of these changes. Atmospheric science covers topics such as climate change, storms (including tornadoes), weather systems and other atmospheric phenomena. Biogeography is the study of the biosphere, and examines the geographic nature of plants, animals, and ecosystems. Hydrology is the study of the Earth’s water in its many forms including ice, snow, rivers, lakes, and groundwater. Lastly, geomorphology examines the nature of the Earth’s land surface features such as mountains and river.

Chemistry is the science concerned with the properties of atoms and molecules, of which all matter is composed. Chemistry is important for all aspects of the material world - food production; the manufacture of medicines, textiles, and plastics; energy production; identifying environmental problems and remedies; and understanding the workings of living organisms. The Honours and cooperative work-study (co-op) programs provide experience in government, private sector and research laboratories.

Students admitted to the Master of Science in Management degree program will pursue a research-focused degree in one of the departments of Marketing, Finance, Actuarial Mathematics, Business Administration or Supply Chain Management. The M.Sc. program in Management is designed to produce graduates who have an academically more in-depth, rigorous training in their chosen management field than is the case for either B.Comm (Hons.) graduates or MBA graduates. In addition, the program seeks to develop strong research skills to meet the needs of employers as well as to more effectively prepare M.Sc. students for entrance into Ph.D. programs at the University of Manitoba.
