Geophysicists use the principles of physics and mathematics to study the Earth’s surface, internal structure and composition, atmosphere and magnetosphere. The many overlapping fields in Geophysics include: Earthquake Seismology, Exploration Seismology, Electromagnetic Geophysics, Gravity and Magnetic Geophysics, Geodesy, Geomagnetism as well as Geodynamics and High-Pressure Geophysics.

Biotechnology is the application of the principles of chemistry, biochemistry and microbiology to the development of new technologies. Both Microbiology and Chemistry share in the teaching and administration of the program, The cooperative work-study (co-op) programs provide experience in government, private sector and research laboratories.

The Theatre Program in the Department of English, Film, and Theatre is focused yet multi-faceted, offering both creative and intellectual opportunities. The interrelationship between the academic program and the Black Hole Theatre Company provides students with excellent balance in the creation and interpretation of theatre. We provide instruction in theoretical approaches and critical and practical methods. Both Film and Theatre courses offer options for studying performance, production, and interpretation.

Engineering uses the principles of math and science to find practical solutions to problems or needs. Engineers develop the technological tools that enable us to live better lives (computer chips, hydro dams, artificial limbs, etc.). Though the field of engineering is diverse the skill set one needs in areas such as biology, water resource management, environmental protection and computing systems are common. Basic sciences, engineering sciences, math, and engineering design are only the foundation courses. An engineering education is much broader. Some have called it the "liberal arts" of the 21st century!

Genetics is the science of heredity, which deals with the mechanisms of inheritance. The Genetics program is interdisciplinary, comprising courses from Biological Sciences, Microbiology, Chemistry, Arts, Medicine and Agricultural and Food Science. The study of Genetics is divided into three broad areas: Classical genetics, population genetics, and molecular genetics. Students will study advances in medicine, agricultural techniques, heritable IQ, genetically modified organisms, genetic counselling and gene therapy. The Honours and cooperative work-study (co-op) programs provide experience in government, private sector and research laboratories.

Microbiology is the study of microscopic organisms: bacteria, viruses, fungi, protozoa and algae. Programs provide a comprehensive study of modern microbiology ranging from environmental to medical to molecular microbiology. Many courses include laboratory components to develop skills in microbiological techniques.

The Global Political Economy program is a unique interdisciplinary approach for the study of international political, social, environmental, and economic issues. It brings together faculty and course offerings across five disciplines to give you a superb education in global political economic relations, and their effects on local communities. The program integrates courses in Political Studies, Economics, Sociology, Anthropology, and History, and for Advanced degree students, two core courses in Global Political Economy.
