Environmental Science examines the physical, chemical, and biological components of the Earth’s environment, its diverse systems, and the complex ways in which they interact. Environmental scientists use a variety of scientific and analytical techniques to measure environmental parameters, to evaluate the state of environmental systems, and to project the changes in environmental systems as a result of human activities and climate change. Natural and physical systems behavior is key to evaluating the implications of human activities such as agriculture, industry, and resource extraction, processing, and use. Environmental problems such as contamination and pollution, global warming, and biodiversity loss are studied with regard to past, present, and future practices and solutions.

The Department of Religion at the University of Manitoba focuses on three areas of study: religions in the West (especially Christianity and Judaism), religions in the East (Islam, Hinduism, Yoga, Buddhism), and religion and culture. Method and theory is an integral part of our program as is an emphasis on world religions. Courses are mainly tradition based or topics based. Our topical courses are comparative, for example, dealing with death and mourning rituals in world religions.

Mathematics is the study of quantity, structure, space, and change. Mathematicians seek out patterns and formulate new conjectures which provide the language, reasoning, and analytic tools that many other disciplines use to investigate their areas.

In this program the emphasis is on Mathematics and another field of study. For example: Mathematics and Computer Science; Mathematics and Economics; or Mathematics and Statistics.

Plant Biotechnology uses applied biology and chemistry to develop advanced knowledge of crop plants and their pathogens. Plant Biotechnologists develop new technologies for crop improvement.

The Bachelor of Science (Agriculture) in Plant Biotechnology provides students with a solid background in genetics, pathology, the physiology of plant growth, and the development of crop plants for food, feed and industrial uses. It also introduce students to the fundamentals and applications of the advanced biotechnologies currently being used in crop development industries and research.

Co-op programs
The Cooperative Education option integrates academic study with practical work experience in industry, government and the farming profession. To obtain the co-op designation, students must complete three 4-month work terms. Two of these can be during the summer. This program option will extend your degree time by one semester (slightly longer if a student takes more work terms in winter).

Anthropology is a biocultural discipline grounded in a comparative and cross-cultural perspective and concerned with diverse aspects of human life. While broadly educated, individual anthropologists generally specialize in particular approaches, collectively contributing to a rich and holistic view of humanity. The University of Manitoba offers undergraduate and graduate training in anthropology’s four sub-disciplines: cultural anthropology, archaeology, physical anthropology, and anthropological linguistics.

The Diploma in Dental Hygiene is a 3-year program that prepares students to work as dental hygienists in a variety of employment settings. Dental hygiene is a self-regulated health service profession concerned primarily with the prevention of oral disease and the promotion of optimum oral health. As a licensed professional, the dental hygienists' scope of practice is regulated by provincial legislation. The dental hygiene process of care consists of five components: assess, diagnose, plan, implement and evaluate, which guide dental hygiene practice in every setting. Dental hygienists work in private dental offices, community health centres, educational institutions, personal care homes and various other environments.

The Labour Studies Program explains the issues that shape our world: globalization, social and economic equality, power and resistance. We explore how the workplace has changed, why workers organize, and what ordinary people can do about social injustice. We ground theory in practice, with strategies for exercising your rights at work, improving your working conditions, and getting the respect to which all are entitled. Labour Studies provides essential tools and basic knowledge for teachers, union activists, managers, worker advocates, human resource managers, and all working people.

Students admitted to the Master of Science in Management degree program will pursue a research-focused degree in one of the departments of Marketing, Finance, Actuarial Mathematics, Business Administration or Supply Chain Management. The M.Sc. program in Management is designed to produce graduates who have an academically more in-depth, rigorous training in their chosen management field than is the case for either B.Comm (Hons.) graduates or MBA graduates. In addition, the program seeks to develop strong research skills to meet the needs of employers as well as to more effectively prepare M.Sc. students for entrance into Ph.D. programs at the University of Manitoba.

The study of economics helps us understand our world: wages and employment, economic growth, productivity, wealth and poverty, government budgets and taxation, resource exploitation, business practices, inflation, recession, regional economic differences. In the undergraduate program in economics we study the history and current reality of these issues, and the principles and techniques necessary to gain a sound understanding of the choices and problems facing us during our lifetime. Students earning a general BA degree in economics can take a wide variety of economics courses while still pursuing interests in other fields. The advanced BA degree in Economics provides greater specialization. The Honours program is intellectually stimulating and offers smaller third and forth year classes.
