Microbiology is the study of microscopic organisms: bacteria, viruses, fungi, protozoa and algae. Programs provide a comprehensive study of modern microbiology ranging from environmental to medical to molecular microbiology. Many courses include laboratory components to develop skills in microbiological techniques.

The Interdisciplinary Health Program offers education and training leading to a Bachelor of Health Studies degree. The Interdisciplinary Health Program (IHP) is a joint program between the Rady Faculty of Health Sciences in partnership with the Faculties of Arts and Science. Classes take place at the Fort Garry campus.

Our program focuses on health promotion. Students gain an understanding of the determinants of optimum health and well-being and the actions and circumstances that maintain those conditions. Health and wellness are understood in the context of the individual, the community and society with a particular focus on Manitoba and its peoples. 

The BHSt program requires the completion of 120 credit hours of required and elective coursework; this includes a minimum of 18 credit hours of concentration electives. Students must declare at least one concentration.

Concentrations

• Health Policy, Planning and Evaluation
  • This concentration provides foundational knowledge related to health policy development and related evaluation, and programming services. This can be a potential route for individuals seeking careers in areas such as health policy analysis or program planning and evaluation coordination.
• Health Promotion and Education
  • This concentration would be a route through which students pursuing a career as a home economics teacher could obtain their ‘teachable subjects’ in family studies and nutrition. Students should consult with academic advisors in the Faculty of Education as additional training will be required.
  • Students who pursue this concentration can also explore future career opportunities as community health educators, health-related fundraisers, health and safety coordinators, or professional home economists (PHEc).
• Family Health
  • This concentration is suitable for students interested in family social science. It provides the educational background suitable for a future career as a community wellness worker, victim services worker, youth care worker and residential care manager.
     

Entrepreneurship is about creating value through identifying opportunities and gathering and managing resources to capitalize on those opportunities.

Students in the Entrepreneurship/Small Business major explore new venture startups, social initiatives, small business management and family business.

Students will encounter questions including:

• What is creativity and how does it relate to entrepreneurship?
• What is opportunity and how do businesses start in response to perceived opportunities?
• How does family involvement impact the business and family?
   

The Diploma in Art is essentially technical in nature. The interdisciplinary studio-based learning experience gives students a hands-on training in an art studio setting and introduces them to possible careers and education pathways in the arts and culture sector. Building a diverse set of technical skills while gaining practical experience.

Bachelor of Arts or BA is an undergraduate program. Full form of BA is Bachlor of Arts and it comes under the discipline of humanities/arts. BA course duration is 3 years. BA course is divided equally into 6 semesters. degree in any stream can take up this course. There are various BA specialisations available. BA course helps in enriching one's outlook towards society and building it by the oldest forms of arts. There are various colleges available for BA course aspirants, that provide the best education. The Department of Religion at the University of Manitoba focuses on three areas of study: religions in the West (especially Christianity and Judaism), religions in the East (Islam, Hinduism, Yoga, Buddhism), and religion and culture. Method and theory is an integral part of our program as is an emphasis on world religions. Courses are mainly tradition based or topics based. Our topical courses are comparative, for example, dealing with death and mourning rituals in world religions.

Agroecology specializes in the management and conservation of our natural and agricultural resources. Agroecologists develop environmentally friendly weed, insect and disease controls and also help farmers conserve their land and protect Canada’s wildlife and water supply. 

The Bachelor of Science (Agroecology) is the ideal program for students with a passion for our planet. Students will learn the biological and physical components of ecosystems, and how to achieve economically sustainable agricultural production while conserving resources and maintaining the integrity of our ecosystems.

Co-op programs
The Cooperative Education option integrates the student’s academic study with practical work experience in industry, government and the farming profession. To obtain the co-op designation, you must complete three 4-month work terms. Two of these can be during the summer. This program option will extend your degree time by one semester (slightly longer if a student takes more work terms in winter).

Biology is the study of life as it has evolved and is evolving on earth. All aspects of life are examined, from molecular processes inside cells, to large-scale ecological interactions between organisms in their environment, and how the changing environment shapes these interactions.
