Biochemistry is the study of the chemical composition, activity and constituents of living systems. Both Microbiology and Chemistry share in the teaching and administration of the program.

Within the Biochemistry programs, you can take courses and conduct research in topics ranging from chemistry to microbiology to biology including: cellular signaling and cancer biology, molecular biology, structural biology, biophysics and bioenergetics, genomics and genetics. Many courses include laboratory components to develop skills in scientific techniques. 

The Department of Icelandic Language and Literature seeks to offer innovative and challenging courses in Icelandic language, literature, films and aesthetics, as well as Icelandic history and culture at both undergraduate and graduate levels. The Department also recognizes its commitment to the Icelandic community in North America by actively promoting North American-Icelandic history and culture. It has served to highlight the cultural contribution of Icelandic-Canadians to North America, and the curriculum includes courses dealing exclusively with Icelandic-Canadian literature and the poetics of immigration.

Geography is a broad synthesizing discipline that studies humans and the Earth by focusing on the themes of place and space. Geography is therefore not an encyclopedic listing of capital cities, mountains and rivers, but rather an understanding of the causes, effects, implications, and importance of these and other features. As Geography is so broad, it is often studied as a number of separate but closely related sub-disciplines, notably physical geography and human geography, and also regional geography (Area Studies), topical geography and geographic techniques (Geomatics).

Biotechnology is the application of the principles of chemistry, biochemistry and microbiology to the development of new technologies. Both Microbiology and Chemistry share in the teaching and administration of the program, The Honours and cooperative work-study (co-op) programs provide experience in government, private sector and research laboratories.

Biosystems Engineering brings engineering to life by integrating life sciences with engineering, from the molecular to the ecosystem. Biosystems engineers help to create new technologies for the well-being of humans and animals, and the preservation and enhancement of natural resources and the environment. The main areas of study are environmental engineering, bio-processing (food and pharmaceutical), bio-environmental control, bio-medical engineering, soil and water engineering, agricultural equipment, and light structures. Biosystems Engineering also provides an excellent pathway to the Faculty of Medicine.

Microbiology is the study of microscopic organisms: bacteria, viruses, fungi, protozoa and algae. Programs provide a comprehensive study of modern microbiology ranging from environmental to medical to molecular microbiology. Many courses include laboratory components to develop skills in microbiological techniques. If you like working with technology and people, then a major in Management Information Systems is for you. You will learn how to determine what the information needs of a company are and how to design information systems that get real business done. You will study various kinds of software and learn how to manage an IT Project from start to finish.

The job market for MIS professionals is growing with an ongoing shortage across Manitoba and Canada. Our alumni are workings at companies like Great West Life, IBM, Investors Group, Wawanesa, and Standard Aero. Organizations will always have a need for in-house personnel or consultants with the MIS skill set taught at the Asper School of Business.

Marketing involves learning about and understanding consumers, and then developing and implementing a plan that delivers products and services that meet the needs of both the consumer and producer. A marketing professional is also involved in setting the prices for the product or service, deciding where and how it will be sold, and how it will be promoted. 

Students who major in marketing soon discover that this exciting field encompasses much more than sales and advertising. They learn about marketing research, consumer behaviour, branding, international marketing, and marketing of social issues.

The Bachelor of Nursing is offered in a community that is characterized by a mosaic of cultural groups. The curriculum gives students a solid base in theory. Mechanical engineering is the use of principles of mechanics, materials and energy to design machines and processes. The Mechanical Engineering program allows great flexibility and choice with an Aerospace Option and Manufacturing Option, and specialties in energy systems, advanced materials and solid mechanics.
