Biotechnology is the application of the principles of chemistry, biochemistry and microbiology to the development of new technologies. Both Microbiology and Chemistry share in the teaching and administration of the program, The cooperative work-study (co-op) programs provide experience in government, private sector and research laboratories.

Chemistry is the science concerned with the properties of atoms and molecules, of which all matter is composed. Chemistry is important for all aspects of the material world - food production; the manufacture of medicines, textiles, and plastics; energy production; identifying environmental problems and remedies; and understanding the workings of living organisms. The cooperative work-study (co-op) program provides experience in government, private sector and research laboratories.

Environmental Studies focuses on the complex relationships between humans, whether as individuals, communities or institutions, and the environment. It examines the social, cultural, institutional, political, policy and legal aspects surrounding environmental issues and concerns. The Environmental Studies Program uses not only scientific approaches but also traditional knowledge, and in doing so broadens the ways in which the environment is viewed. This is illustrated using local, regional, and international case studies, which reveal the implications of diversity and inequality. Students gain a broad and integrated understanding of diverse fields, and develop a wide awareness of human and environmental concerns, such as human health, community and urban planning.

Philosophy is the study of reality, knowledge, values, logic and related topics. The existence of free will or God, the nature of science, art, emotions and language, ethical theory, proofs, fallacies, and so on. It is one of the oldest subjects of study in the Western world. Philosophy students are trained to think abstractly and write clearly, and rationally assess ideas in a way that few others can equal.

Geography is a broad synthesizing discipline that studies humans and the Earth by focusing on the themes of place and space. Geography is therefore not an encyclopedic listing of capital cities, mountains and rivers, but rather an understanding of the causes, effects, implications, and importance of these and other features. As Geography is so broad, it is often studied as a number of separate but closely related sub-disciplines, notably physical geography and human geography, and also regional geography (Area Studies), topical geography and geographic techniques (Geomatics).

Political Studies examines the dynamics of human interaction in which individuals and groups compete, and cooperate, to achieve their goals, in the context of competing visions, values and interests. It is therefore a study of power, particularly in connection with law and public policy. Because people often disagree about, say, civil liberties, sustainable development, and distributive justice, they divide themselves into various groups: nations, political parties, trade unions, business associations, environmental organizations, to mention but a few. Political studies tries to understand what happens when individuals and groups struggle with one another to achieve their different goals. Within states there are mechanisms called governments to oversee and guide political struggle, and studying politics can help us better appreciate why various types of government behave the way they do.

Mathematics is the study of quantity, structure, space, and change. Mathematicians seek out patterns and formulate new conjectures which provide the language, reasoning, and analytic tools that many other disciplines use to investigate their areas.

In this program the emphasis is on Mathematics and another field of study. For example: Mathematics and Computer Science; Mathematics and Economics; or Mathematics and Statistics.

Biology is the study of life as it has evolved and is evolving on earth. All aspects of life are examined, from molecular processes inside cells to large-scale ecological interactions between organisms in their environment, and how the changing environment shapes these interactions.

Geologists study the composition, structure, processes, and history of the Earth, as well as the distribution of mineral and energy resources. There are many overlapping fields of study for geologists including: Economic Geology, Petroleum Geology, Environmental Geology, Geochemistry, Hydrogeology, Mineralogy, Crystallography and Petrology, Paleontology, Sedimentology and Stratigraphy as well as Structural Geology and Tectonics.
