Biology is the study of life as it has evolved and is evolving on earth. All aspects of life are examined, from molecular processes inside cells, to large scale ecological interactions between organisms in their environment, and how the changing environment shapes these interactions.

Biochemistry is the study of the chemical composition, activity and constituents of living systems. Both Microbiology and Chemistry share in the teaching and administration of the program.

Within the Biochemistry programs, you can take courses and conduct research in topics ranging from chemistry to microbiology to biology including: cellular signaling and cancer biology, molecular biology, structural biology, biophysics and bioenergetics, genomics and genetics. Many courses include laboratory components to develop skills in scientific techniques. 

The University of Manitoba’s Italian program allows students to master the Italian language and acquire cultural knowledge. An emphasis is placed on language skills as well as in inter-cultural skills.

• The Italian courses offered at the University of Manitoba not only teach grammar and contemporary literature but also touch upon Italian culture and history. Environmental Studies focuses on the complex relationships between humans, whether as individuals, communities or institutions, and the environment. It examines the social, cultural, institutional, political, policy and legal aspects surrounding environmental issues and concerns. The Environmental Studies Program uses not only scientific approaches but also traditional knowledge, and in doing so broadens the ways in which the environment is viewed. This is illustrated using local, regional, and international case studies, which reveal the implications of diversity and inequality. Students gain a broad and integrated understanding of diverse fields, and develop a wide awareness of human and environmental concerns, such as human health, community and urban planning.

Psychology is the scientific study of behaviour and mental processes. It is also the profession that applies the accumulated knowledge of this science to practical problems. Psychologists and their work can be classified into three general categories: Research Psychology, Applied Psychology, and Clinical/Counselling Psychology. Bachelor of Arts programs in psychology offer comprehensive training that will provide an essential foundation for pursuing careers within any of these three areas.

The Master of Supply Chain Management and Logistics program delivers supply chain management and logistics education and advanced professional skills while guiding students in developing their understanding of and appreciation for the application of ethics, sustainability and professional practices in supply chains.

This program is a hands-on degree with a practical component, which gives students the skills and knowledge required to work professionally in supply chain management and logistics fields

Co-op placement or practicum
The Master of Supply Chain Management and Logistics degree includes a 4-month graduate co-op placement or practicum in which students gain hands-on experience in the supply chain management field. These placements are made possible by the Stu Clark graduate school’s network of connections within Manitoba and across Canada. 

The Theatre Program in the Department of English, Film, and Theatre is focused yet multi-faceted, offering both creative and intellectual opportunities. An intensive, hands-on experience in every aspect of play creation is a hallmark of University of Manitoba Theatre. The interrelationship between the academic program and the Black Hole Theatre Company provides students with excellent balance in the creation and interpretation of theatre. We provide instruction in theoretical approaches and critical and practical methods. Both Film and Theatre courses offer options for studying performance, production, and interpretation.

Mathematics is the study of quantity, structure, space, and change. Mathematicians seek out patterns and formulate new conjectures which provide the language, reasoning, and analytic tools that many other disciplines use to investigate their areas.

In this program the emphasis is on Mathematics and another field of study. For example: Mathematics and Computer Science; Mathematics and Economics; or Mathematics and Statistics.

Microbiology is the study of microscopic organisms: bacteria, viruses, fungi, protozoa and algae. Programs provide a comprehensive study of modern microbiology ranging from environmental to medical to molecular microbiology. Many courses include laboratory components to develop skills in microbiological techniques. The Honours and cooperative work-study (co-op) programs provide experience in government, private sector and research laboratories.
