The Art History program offers students an opportunity to consider, in a cultural context, both Western and non-Western artistic traditions with an emphasis on the former from the Renaissance to the present. While all courses acknowledge methodological issues, the program also offers courses in art theory and criticism at the second and third-year levels. Students enrolled in this program broaden their knowledge of art production with studio electives.

The BFA Honours degree allows you to complete an additional year of study including art history and optional studio electives.

This Faculty of Arts interdisciplinary program explores the massive social and cultural changes in Central and East European countries that have dominated the world's attention. In addition to language courses, the CEES program also offers courses on literatures, cinemas, and cultures of the region, the issues of state formation and democratization, privatization and the creation of new market economies, and more. There are several active student clubs that enhance learning and travel study programs are also available.

The Department of Icelandic Language and Literature seeks to offer innovative and challenging courses in Icelandic language, literature, films and aesthetics, as well as Icelandic history and culture at both undergraduate and graduate levels. The Department also recognizes its commitment to the Icelandic community in North America by actively promoting North American-Icelandic history and culture. It has served to highlight the cultural contribution of Icelandic-Canadians to North America, and the curriculum includes courses dealing exclusively with Icelandic-Canadian literature and the poetics of immigration.

Criminology is concerned with the complex social phenomena of crime and criminalization. The criminology program engages students in a systematic study of the nature and extent of crime and criminalization along with the array of agencies and programs designed to prevent, control, and respond to criminal activity over time and place. Attention is given to specific issues related to gender, race, class and crime, youth and crime, violence and victimization, criminal law and procedure, policing and crime prevention, restorative justice, and global criminology. Courses in the criminology program are taught primarily from a sociological perspective, with emphasis placed on research, program development, and policy analysis.

Historical study explains the past to the present and illuminates the present through the past.  The History curriculum offers students opportunities to discover, understand, and assess past time and change over time.  Historical study develops strong writing skills and critical analysis.  As well, it provides training in skills of intellectual enquiry and judgment to prepare for students’ future lives.  In addition, the curriculum prepares graduates who will become professional historians. 

Agribusiness is the business and economics of food. It focuses on all of the factors that influence how food travels around the globe, including: finance, government policy, international trade, risk management, the environment, food safety, and regional development.

The Bachelor of Science (Agribusiness) degree gives students a thorough understanding of Canada's food supply chain, from producer to consumer. Students learn how to market and distribute food products to customers within the community and around the world.

Co-op programs
The Cooperative Education option integrates the student's academic study with practical work experience in industry, government and the farming profession. To obtain the co-op designation, students must complete three 4-month work terms. Two of these can be during the summer. This program option will extend your degree time by one semester (slightly longer if a student takes more work terms in winter).

Mathematics is the study of quantity, structure, space, and change. Mathematicians seek out patterns and formulate new conjectures which provide the language, reasoning, and analytic tools that many other disciplines use to investigate their areas.

In this program the emphasis is on Mathematics and another field of study. For example: Mathematics and Computer Science; Mathematics and Economics; or Mathematics and Statistics.

Environmental Science examines the physical, chemical, and biological components of the Earth’s environment, its diverse systems, and the complex ways in which they interact. Environmental scientists use a variety of scientific and analytical techniques to measure environmental parameters, to evaluate the state of environmental systems, and to project the changes in environmental systems as a result of human activities and climate change. Natural and physical systems behavior is key to evaluating the implications of human activities such as agriculture, industry, and resource extraction, processing, and use. Environmental problems such as contamination and pollution, global warming, and biodiversity loss are studied with regard to past, present, and future practices and solutions.

Biochemistry is the study of the chemical composition, activity and constituents of living systems. Both Microbiology and Chemistry share in the teaching and administration of the program. The Honours and cooperative work-study (co-op) programs provide experience in government, private sector and research laboratories.

Interesting courses and unique opportunities
Within the Biochemistry programs, you can take courses and conduct research in topics ranging from chemistry to microbiology to biology including: cellular signaling and cancer biology, molecular biology, structural biology, biophysics and bioenergetics, genomics and genetics. Many courses include laboratory components to develop skills in scientific techniques.
