Computer science isn't just about computers; it's about using computers to understand and solve large problems. Combating climate change, finding cures for diseases, helping children learn - solving any of these issues can begin by studying computer science. Information and Communication Technology (ICT) is part of almost everything you do from the car you drive to the movies you watch to the cell phone you use. It drives innovation in nearly every area of your life. Computing professionals are the creative people who are responsible for many of these innovations. Through a mix of theory and practical experience, you will learn the fundamentals of computer science, including how to design and build software, how to develop effective ways to solve problems, and how to create new and better ways of using computers. Data science for finance: this is the best way to describe our Master in Quantitative Investment Management (MQIM) program. This one-of-a-kind one-year graduate program will prepare you for a specialized career in quantitative investment management. The program equips graduates with the fundamentals of finance knowledge combined with analytic and programming skills, as well as professional development competencies demanded by the finance industry. 

Quantitative Investment Management integrates tools from finance, economics, applied mathematics, statistics and computer programming to address problems in derivative securities valuation, dynamic investment strategies and risk management. These skills are sought by investment and commercial banks, trading companies, hedge funds, insurance companies, corporate risk managers and regulatory agencies. 

After completing the MQIM you will be qualified for positions such as: 

• Analyst

• Portfolio or risk manager/associate
• Quantitative analyst or developer
• Trading associate

You will be qualified to work for pension funds, hedge funds, investment consulting firms, investment and commercial banks, insurance companies, and regulatory agencies, as well as any company that hires data analysts. Quantitative investment skills are in high demand! 

Everything around us leaves an impression. In this way, spatial information exists in all aspects of human activity. In Geodesy and Geomatics, you’ll analyze data about the Earth’s surface to solve complex problems. This  specialized field of study is useful in many circumstances, including: fighting climate change, creating tsunami warning systems, urban planning, constructing pipelines, operating navigation systems, understanding public health, recreating crime scenes, and numerous other examples. 

The Geodesy and Geomatics Engineering program is available as a major or minor as part of a four-year Bachelor of Science in Engineering degree. The Faculty has been preparing graduates for success in their engineering careers since 1854, when UNB was the first university in Canada to introduce an engineering program. 

Why Geodesy and Geomatics Engineering at UNB?
UNB is one of only two certified Geomatics programs in the country. Our world-class education and research on the subject has resulted in a 100% employment rate for our students.

Our graduates have gone on to help design and build bridges, make cleaner fuels and next-generation wireless communications tools. Researchers in the Faculty are developing technologies to help improve satellite imagery used by Google Earth and the Canadian Department of National Defence. Venture Analyst Leadership Program: If you are completing the Concentration in Venture Commercialization, Scaling and Investment, you can apply to be a Venture Analyst Leader and work with an entrepreneur or investor to launch a start-up venture.

Chemistry is the study of the properties of the fundamental building blocks of matter, ranging in size from single hydrogen atoms to complex aggregates of biologically important species. Chemists prepare new compounds and study their composition and structure. This activity, coupled with studies of the way in which chemical reactions occur, allows theories on chemical bonding and reaction to be formulated.

Chemistry can provide the foundation for interesting careers in medicine and medical laboratory work. It can also lead to a career in pharmaceutical design and innovation, or genetic research. Chemistry provides the strong background needed to research and develop discoveries in countless real-world materials, from plastics to foodstuffs to modern materials used in housing, transportation, and computer technology.

The Chemistry program is available as a major, double major, minor or honours option as part of a four-year Bachelor of Science degree. The Faculty of Science is one of the university’s oldest faculties and was established when UNB was founded in 1785. Our faculty has an outstanding reputation, both nationally and internationally, and as a student you will be able to benefit from its stellar accomplishments in research and for its acclaimed graduate and nationally-accredited undergraduate degree programs. How does the brain work? How does the brain determine behavior? What happens when the brain is injured? Neuroscience is a sub-field of psychology that examines these questions and many others. 

Research in neuroscience is one of the fastest growing areas of psychology.  We now have new techniques to measure brain activity, such as neuroimaging, which gives us insight into the brain we’ve never had before. When you enroll in the Neuroscience specialization at UNB, you will stay at the cutting edge of psychology. 

The Neuroscience specialization is available as part of your major or honours Bachelor of Arts degree in Psychology. You can also get training in Neuroscience through the major or honours Bachelor of Science degree.

The Film Studies Minor offers students from all faculties the opportunity to study film (and video) from a variety of perspectives, including theory, history, and analysis, as well as a range of topics around national cinemas and genres, among others. In addition, students have the opportunity to study film from creative and practical perspectives in production and other practice-driven courses as well as creative writing for the screen.
