The notion of global interdependence has become a central fact of today's post -modern world. The challenges faced by the emerging countries of the South have an immediate impact on life in Canada.

International Development Studies (IDS) is an interdisciplinary program made to address social, political, and economic issues facing the development of emerging countries in the Global South. The program includes selected courses from the Faculty of Arts at UNB.

IDS provides students with a holistic understanding of today's important issues including the North South dialogue, globalization, poverty, indigenous concerns, ethnic struggles, and sustainable development.

Bachelor of Arts
The IDS program is available as a major, double major or honours option as part of a four-year Bachelor of Arts degree. Arts is a four year program and covers a broad range of subject areas concerned with the study of human beings and the evolution and nature of global societies, ideas, and institutions. In your first two years of the program, you will select courses in fields like humanities, languages, social sciences as well as science and business to provide you with a broad foundation for advanced study in your chosen subject area during the final two years.

Hands-on learning
The IDS program provides students with the opportunity to participate in internship programs both at the local and international levels.

The Faculties of Arts and Science at UNB in Fredericton work together to offer a combined arts and science four-year degree program. The BAS is a joint degree in Arts and Science. It provides you with an in-depth scientific education, as well as an understanding of people and the analytical and critical thinking skills acquired in an Arts degree.

Marketing is about attracting customers. It’s about identifying a unique product, branding it, and then communicating it in a way that makes customers want it.

Through UNB’s Marketing program, you’ll learn how to identify, brand, and communicate products and services to customers. You’ll explore key areas of marketing, such as public relations, advertising, promotions, product development, pricing, and distribution. Marketing courses focus heavily on entrepreneurship and real-world marketing applications so that you’ll gain real-world experience and perspectives. In fact, many of your marketing courses allow you to apply your learning with real businesses and start-ups by planning their marketing activities and social media marketing plans.

Archaeology is the study of human civilizations and societies, primarily through the study of the materials they left behind.

Archaeology at UNB Fredericton is an interdepartmental program provided by the Departments of Anthropology and Classics and Ancient History in the Faculty of Arts. A Bachelor of Arts in Archaeology covers anthropological archaeology (human-focused archaeology) and classical archaeology (investigation of the Ancient Greece and Rome).

The first two years of the program consist of required courses which provide a foundation in the discipline of Archaeology. In the final two years students specialize in the Anthropological or Classical streams, but are required to take some upper-level classes from both streams.

An important part of the program is the archaeological field work requirement. This requirement may also be satisfied by completing a field school program offered through Anthropology or Classics and Ancient History, or through field schools offered by research institutions or universities around the globe.

Opportunities also exist for work placements with government-sponsored or private-sector cultural resource management-based archaeological projects. These also satisfy the requirement for field work and allow students to gain employment experience and earn a wage.

Adult Education is about lifelong learning. It’s about enabling people to continue on a path of learning, of skills development, and of personal enrichment. 

UNB’s Adult Education program combines credit courses with academic research, applied projects, and continuing professional development workshops. You’ll learn how to plan, administer, and deliver training to adults of all ages in all contexts, and you’ll explore principles of adult learning, the nature of adult learners, and the history and philosophy of adult education.

The Bachelor of Integrated Studies (BIS) graduate is primed to meet the challenges of a competitive, ever changing world.

UNB delivers many courses in a variety of ways, including face-to-face, web-based, and teleconference, making it easier for you to find courses at times to fit your schedule. You can begin at the start of any term, go full or part-time, and choose a pace that works for you

The degree of Bachelor of Medical Laboratory Science (BMLS) is offered through the Faculty of Science in partnership with the New Brunswick Community College in Saint John (NBCC-SJ). Enrolment will be limited and based on availability of seats in the Medical Laboratory Technology (MLT) program at NBCC-SJ. Students may enter the program only with approval from the Dean of Science or the program Director.

The BMLS degree requires completion of the MLT program either prior to or after completion of 84 credit hours of courses at UNB. For graduation, students must have completed the UNB portion of the degree as well as 2.5 years of the MLT program at NBCC-SJ and have passed the Canadian Society for Medical Laboratory Science (CSMLS) exams required for professional practice.

UNB’s International Business concentration attracts students interested in working for a multinational corporation or for an organization that deals with distant markets. Our program explores the challenges and opportunities facing global enterprises and focuses on subjects like accounting, finance, and economics. Creative writing is available as an option within the English Honours or Majors program. Students in the Creative Writing program must complete the normal English major requirements with courses from relevant creative writing areas.

Bachelor of Arts
