Areas of specialization

• Concentration in Venture Commercialization, Scaling, and Investment: UNB's Faculty of Management is a hub for entrepreneurial learning. Work with a real-life start-up and learn how to launch a business; then work with real venture capitalists to learn how to assess whether a start-up is investment-ready.
• Concentration in Management Analytics: Increased digitization is drastically changing the way organizations operate, creating a huge need for graduates who are tech savvy and capable of making sense of the vast amount of data available. Physics is the most fundamental natural science, It examines basic concepts such as energy, force, and spacetime, and all that derives from these, such as mass, charge, matter and its motion. More broadly, it is the general analysis of nature, conducted in order to understand how the world and universe behave.

Physicists want to really understand how the world works and the applied physics degree focuses on developments that depend on that understanding. The applied physics program incorporates practical physics courses (for example with applications in the energy and the electronics sectors), and allows room for electives in other Faculties such as Engineering and Computer Science.

Marketing is about attracting customers. It’s about identifying a unique product, branding it, and then communicating it in a way that makes customers want it.

Through UNB’s Marketing program, you’ll learn how to identify, brand, and communicate products and services to customers. You’ll explore key areas of marketing, such as public relations, advertising, promotions, product development, pricing, and distribution. Marketing courses focus heavily on entrepreneurship and real-world marketing applications so that you’ll gain real-world experience and perspectives. In fact, many of your marketing courses allow you to apply your learning with real businesses and start-ups by planning their marketing activities and social media marketing plans.

Psychology is the science of human thought, behaviour and emotion. All that we think, feel and do is a possible topic for psychological study. Psychology applies its knowledge to human activity in order to improve lives and alleviate suffering.

At UNB, we offer a broad spectrum of research areas in psychology, including: human sexuality, depression, feminist perspectives, Autism, women’s studies, internet and gambling addictions, gender and laterality, pain assessment and management, infant and adolescent development, cultural psychology, self-concept and identity, bilingualism and cognitive neuroscience.

Russian and Eurasian Studies is an interdisciplinary major and minor program administered by a committee drawn from the departments involved in the program. Interested students should first contact the Director who is the representative from the Russian section of the Department of Culture and Language Studies.

PROGRAMS OF STUDY

• Major in Russian and Eurasian Studies
  • A major in Russian and Eurasian Studies shall consist of a minimum of 30 ch of advanced level courses relating to Russia and the former Soviet Union and Eastern Europe. To qualify to enter this program, students must first have satisfactorily completed 6 ch in the Russian language at the introductory level (RUSS 1013 and RUSS 1023 ) and 6 ch at the intermediate level (RUSS 2013 and RUSS 2023). The 30 ch for the Major will be selected from the list below and must meet the following requirements:

Sociology is the study of society. Do you find yourself wondering about how social movements and norms develop? Are you interested in topics like crime, aging, sexuality, human rights, health, or the environment? Sociology will answer your questions and give you a new lens for seeing the world around you.

The degree of Bachelor of Medical Laboratory Science (BMLS) is offered through the Faculty of Science in partnership with the New Brunswick Community College in Saint John (NBCC-SJ). Enrolment will be limited and based on availability of seats in the Medical Laboratory Technology (MLT) program at NBCC-SJ. Students may enter the program only with approval from the Dean of Science or the program Director.

The BMLS degree requires completion of the MLT program either prior to or after completion of 84 credit hours of courses at UNB. For graduation, students must have completed the UNB portion of the degree as well as 2.5 years of the MLT program at NBCC-SJ and have passed the Canadian Society for Medical Laboratory Science (CSMLS) exams required for professional practice.

The Department of Culture and Media Studies houses specialists in media studies, literatures, film, music, and languages. This multidisciplinary group is dedicated to fostering broad understandings of culture while also offering opportunities for students to engage critically and creatively with an array of media arts, global cultures and musical traditions.
The language courses are a continuous series and must be taken in the normal sequence. Students with some prior knowledge of Spanish should have this assessed in order to be placed at their proper level. The first two years provide students with a solid working knowledge of Spanish. Students may change streams in consultation with the Department.

The mysteries of number theory and the geometry of curved spaces: these are areas with important applications in data security, computer design and cosmology. For ages, through research both pure and applied, mathematicians have made invisible and unsung contributions to advancements in science and technology, and the importance of mathematical training is increasingly recognized by employers and governments around the world.

In numerous rankings of careers, a significant portion of the top careers are math-intensive, and a degree in Mathematics provides excellent training.  For instance, CareerCast annually ranks 200 careers according to environment, income, outlook, and stress, and Mathematician, Actuary, Statistician, Data Scientist, Information Security Analyst, and Computer Systems Analyst regularly rank in the top ten.

Two Options

Mathematics:The mathematics major degree is designed to prepare you with a career in industry, government or education. Mathematics students are urged to obtain some expertise in an area of application such as the physical sciences, computer science, engineering or business.

Statistics: The statistics major degree is designed to prepare you with a career in industry or government as well as to provide a background for graduate study. Statistics students are urged to obtain some expertise in an area of applications such as the physical sciences, forestry, or computer science.

Hands-on learning

• There are summer employment opportunities (e.g. NSERCs Undergraduate Student Research Awards) for upper-year students
• The Faculty of Science has a Co-op degree program

Skills you will acquire:

The Classical Studies program is designed for students who wish to study the ancient civilizations of Greece and Rome either as a secondary interest (e.g. a double major) or as preparation for entrance into further professional studies (architecture, education, journalism, law, library science, museum studies). 

Classical Studies offers students the option of studying the ancient civilizations of Greece and Rome with only minimal or no language study.  It is a perfect fit for those who wish to develop their interest in and knowledge of Ancient Greece and Rome but who do not wish to continue their study of ancient societies into a career or post-graduate study.
