The Film Studies Minor offers students from all faculties the opportunity to study film (and video) from a variety of perspectives, including theory, history, and analysis, as well as a range of topics around national cinemas and genres, among others. In addition, students have the opportunity to study film from creative and practical perspectives in production and other practice-driven courses as well as creative writing for the screen. Biology is the science of life, and as a department we want to foster a fascination with the biological sciences, develop scientific literacy, and build a solid foundation for careers in biology and related professions. 

Contemporary biology asks many questions due to the vast scope of disciplines related to biological sciences, ranging from the smallest molecules and cellular components, to individual organisms such as microbes, plants and animals, to the larger environment, ecosystems and the biosphere. 

The Biology program is available as a four-year Bachelor of Science degree with majors and honours programs, or as a minor within range of interdepartmental programs.

The mysteries of number theory and the geometry of curved spaces: these are areas with important applications in data security, computer design and cosmology. For ages, through research both pure and applied, mathematicians have made invisible and unsung contributions to advancements in science and technology, and the importance of mathematical training is increasingly recognized by employers and governments around the world.

In numerous rankings of careers, a significant portion of the top careers are math-intensive, and a degree in Mathematics provides excellent training.  For instance, CareerCast annually ranks 200 careers according to environment, income, outlook, and stress, and Mathematician, Actuary, Statistician, Data Scientist, Information Security Analyst, and Computer Systems Analyst regularly rank in the top ten.

Two Options

Mathematics:The mathematics major degree is designed to prepare you with a career in industry, government or education. Mathematics students are urged to obtain some expertise in an area of application such as the physical sciences, computer science, engineering or business.

Statistics: The statistics major degree is designed to prepare you with a career in industry or government as well as to provide a background for graduate study. Statistics students are urged to obtain some expertise in an area of applications such as the physical sciences, forestry, or computer science.

Hands-on learning

• There are summer employment opportunities (e.g. NSERCs Undergraduate Student Research Awards) for upper-year students
• The Faculty of Science has a Co-op degree program

How does the brain work? How does the brain determine behavior? What happens when the brain is injured? Neuroscience is a sub-field of psychology that examines these questions and many others. 

Research in neuroscience is one of the fastest growing areas of psychology.  We now have new techniques to measure brain activity, such as neuroimaging, which gives us insight into the brain we’ve never had before. When you enroll in the Neuroscience specialization at UNB, you will stay at the cutting edge of psychology. 

The Neuroscience specialization is available as part of your major or honours Bachelor of Arts degree in Psychology. You can also get training in Neuroscience through the major or honours Bachelor of Science degree.

The Classical Studies program is designed for students who wish to study the ancient civilizations of Greece and Rome either as a secondary interest (e.g. a double major) or as preparation for entrance into further professional studies (architecture, education, journalism, law, library science, museum studies). 

Classical Studies offers students the option of studying the ancient civilizations of Greece and Rome with only minimal or no language study.  It is a perfect fit for those who wish to develop their interest in and knowledge of Ancient Greece and Rome but who do not wish to continue their study of ancient societies into a career or post-graduate study.

General Information:-

Information Systems was established at UNB as a separate program in 2007. The BISys program is administered by the Faculty of Computer Science. The program educates professionals who apply information technology to solve problems within the business domain.

The BISys program is designed as a four-year program or five years if undertaken in conjunction with the Cooperative Education Program (Co-op) or Professional Experience Program (PEP). Students entering the program are strongly encouraged to participate in either Co-op or PEP, as it is widely recognized that the experience gained is a valuable component of an Information Systems background. A description of the Co-op and PEP programs are found in Section G Undergraduate Degrees in the Computer Science section.

NOTE: Admission to the Bachelor of Information Systems program has been suspended, effective September 2015. For further information, please contact the Dean of the Faculty of Computer Science. 

In the Chemical Engineering program at UNB, you’ll learn how to transform raw materials into useful products while protecting the environment, managing resources, and meeting strict health and safety standards. You’ll also explore chemical processes that improve efficiency, reduce costs, and increase safety and security. Examples include the development of more affordable drugs, more efficient fuels, and better pollution controls. In other words, you’ll explore ways to make the world a better place. 

Chemical Engineering is available as a major in the Bachelor of Science in Engineering program. Two option programs within the technical electives stream are available: Energy Conversion Engineering and Biomedical Engineering.

Do you want to explore and understand the impacts of humans on the environment and of the environment on humans? Do you want to learn to use the scientific approach to solve environmental problems?

Navigating the complex issues involved is a challenge that requires a broad range of skills and perspectives pertaining to earth’s environmental system: its biosphere, atmosphere, hydrosphere and geosphere. This type of training is brought together at the University of New Brunswick through our interdisciplinary programs in the environmental sciences.

Gender and Women's Studies gives students an opportunity to explore gender issues in an interdisciplinary context, and it offers a useful complement to other fields. The required courses provide a framework for understanding the gender-based aspects of knowledge, power, and society.

Gender and Women's Studies represents a new approach to knowledge; it examines the gender-based aspects of human experience and women's roles in society. Gender and Women's Studies includes a wide variety of academic disciplines and professions.

Bachelor of Arts
The Gender and Women's Studies program is available as a major, double major or honours option as part of a four-year Bachelor of Arts degree. Courses in the Faculty of Arts cover a broad range of subject areas concerned with the study of human beings and the evolution and nature of global societies, ideas, and institutions. In your first two years of the program, you will select courses in fields like humanities, languages, social sciences as well as science and business to provide you with a broad foundation for advanced study in your chosen subject area during the final two years.

Through the Bachelor of Business Administration (BBA) program at UNB, you’ll learn the foundations of economics and how it shapes our world. You’ll learn how to explain economic phenomenon, analyze economic impacts, and recommend ways to solve complex economic problems.
