Explore the full breadth of the nursing profession, from community nursing to emergency care, with our nationally recognized BN program.

Our campus is adjacent to New Brunswick’s largest health care facility, the Saint John Regional Hospital - the province's main trauma and heart care centre and medical teaching facility. We are also co-located with Dalhousie Medicine New Brunswick, and NBCC (New Brunswick Community College) Allied Health - giving us unique opportunities for interdisciplinary research and education that will enhance your studies.

You will begin with introductory classes in the physical and social sciences along with courses geared toward career development. In your second year you will focus on health specialties such as mental health, young families and the relationship between bodies and disease. Third and fourth year courses will concentrate on acute care and community nursing.

Our students receive valuable real-world experience during clinical care practicums at both the hospital and through local community, industry and public health programs and agencies.

Our BScEC program will introduce you to the function and roles of Canadian and global economies, and the tools economists use to analyze the decisions made by individuals and businesses. Our BScEC graduates are well-qualified for jobs in economics or finance, or the pursuit of graduate studies in either field.

Scientific research has made great advances in the past 20 years and at UNB Saint John you’ll have the opportunity to learn and experiment in small classes led by instructors passionate about science and the theoretical and practical knowledge it imparts.

Mathematics puts our world in order. Arts students may major or minor in Mathematics, studying calculus, geometry, algebra, statistics and mathematical theory. Mathematics provides the framework for scientific theory in applied, natural and social sciences and the principles underlying economics and business studies.

Philosophy helps students explore a wide range of questions from a variety of different positions. Ask the big questions, and accept there are no easy answers. Philosophy ponders questions about meaning, truth, ethics, art, citizenship, and freedom that define who we are as individuals and leads us to a clearer sense of our role in society. 

Philosophy is available as a major, double major, or minor within the Bachelor of Arts. Students can explore the major philosophies of the past and engage with the issues and major questions of today.

The study of English is about the appreciation of language at work.  English students explore the impact and possibilities of words as they form into narratives and speak through characters to wider cultural communities at home and across the globe. 

English offers creative inspiration and critical thinking skills while empowering students to become highly literate in a society that values communication.

We will help develop your analytical and communication skills; studying literature will refine your reading, writing, and critical thinking skills, as well as cultivate your love of literature.  Through in-class discussions and seminar presentations, you’ll build strategies for public speaking. 

As an effective communicator, you’ll excel in any professional environment and bring a wealth of verbal, analytical, and written strengths to every team dynamic.

Hands-on learning

• Internship: use your knowledge to shape the community by applying for an unpaid, for-credit internship. You’ll work directly with local organizations and non-profits, including the Charlotte Street Arts Centre and the New Brunswick Film Co-op.

History is about people, the famous and the infamous, the daring and the dutiful, who through their actions and ideas left their mark on the past.

The History program at UNB is about both the past and the present. It’s about understanding how the past has shaped the world as we know it now. The program explores the interconnections between economics, nationalism, science, religion, politics, and popular culture, and how each has influenced local, regional, and world events.

You’ll have small, interactive classes, led by knowledgeable instructors, where you can easily interact and debate with instructors and colleagues.

What is gender and how has its definition changed over time and place? How has gender been represented through literature and other media? And how exactly do we bring about change in gender relations in the world?

These are a few questions the Gender Studies program on UNB’s Saint John campus will address, by focusing heavily on concepts such as feminism, masculinity, queer studies, and transgender studies.

UNB Saint John is a leader in the field of Electronic Commerce, and will equip students for positions in traditional firms and new technology startups, or give them the skills to start their own businesses. Psychology is the science of human thought, behaviour and emotion. All that we think, feel and do is a possible topic for psychological study. Psychology applies its knowledge to human activity in order to improve lives and alleviate suffering.

At UNB, we offer a broad spectrum of research areas in psychology, including: human sexuality, depression, feminist perspectives, Autism, women’s studies, internet and gambling addictions, gender and laterality, pain assessment and management, infant and adolescent development, cultural psychology, self-concept and identity, bilingualism and cognitive neuroscience.

Simply put, statistics is the science of learning from data.

With vast amounts of data being gathered every day and from all aspects of our society, we need statistics to help us make sense out of the information collected. The beauty of statistics is that it can be combined with virtually any other discipline, whether its science, medicine, computer science, sports, finance or engineering. As the awareness of the importance of statistics continues to grow, so does the demand for statisticians and statistical expertise.

At UNB Saint John we offer general introductory statistics courses covering the core elements of statistics, specialized introductory statistics courses as well as third and fourth year courses designed to fit the needs of students working on major projects, heading to graduate school or looking for employment in the industry.
