In the Psychology program at UNB’s Fredericton campus, you’ll explore human behavior- our desires, impulses, actions and emotions- in the context of the science that drives it.

The Psychology program will prepare you for a variety of careers including policymaking at the local, national or global level, or professional programs in a range of healthcare areas such as neuropsychology, speech and language pathology, or medicine.

You’ll have the opportunity complete courses in:

• Cognitive neuroscience (the connection between the brain and behavior)
• Drugs and behavior
• Physiological psychology
• Surveys of the senses
• Laboratory courses that allow for more intensive study

You will become well equipped to work in a variety of environments and you’ll gain the skills and knowledge to make decisions based on sound scientific principles. 

The Psychology program is available as a major, double major, minor or honours option as part of a four-year Bachelor of Science degree.

General Information:-

The Certificate in General Studies is open to all interested individuals, but it is intended for student attending university for the first time. It is anticipated that Certificate students may proceed on to a degree program, transferring all appropriate Certificate credit(s).

The Pre-MBA Program is full-time, intensive, non-credit program offered by Saint John College and UNB Saint John's Master of Business Administration program. It is designed to help international students bridge the gap between their undergraduate education, work experience and the entry requirements of UNB Saint John's MBA program.

The Pre-MBA program is designed for international students who have been conditionally accepted to the UNB Saint John MBA Program but who need to increase their level of English language ability and/or gain work experience.

Linguistics courses offer insights into the relationship between the brain, mind and language. By studying linguistics, you’ll gain the skills and knowledge to understand foreign languages and the difficulties foreign students encounter in English and French. 

Linguistic courses complement programs in Education, English, Languages, Psychology, Philosophy, Social Science, and Computer Science. Linguistics is a requirement for Speech Therapy, TESL, and other programs related to language processing and language engineering.

What you'll learn
This program provides students with a solid knowledge of basic concepts that form the foundation of linguistic theories including:

• The modules of grammar (phonology, syntax, semantics).
• The relationship between cognition and language (psycholinguistics).
• The relationship between brain and grammar (generative grammar.
• Mental processes involved in the acquisition of the first and second languages.

Biology is the study of life. At UNB Saint John, Arts students can major in Biology, studying botany, ecology, zoology, organic chemistry and microbiology. You will be able to explore the world of environmental science, sustainable development and public policies towards land and water use.

In your first year you will take introductory studies in organic chemistry, ecology cells and organisms and biology lab work. In second year you will add botany, microbiology, zoology and statistics to your course work and at the end of the year you may apply to major in Biology. Upper-level studies in Biology may include conservation biology, environmental law and animal behaviour.

Your biology degree will teach you to analyze how living things work and interact with other organisms. You will learn to think critically and solve problems through observation and evaluation.

Radiological technologists are experts in the use of electromagnetic radiation, such as X-rays, for the diagnosis of injury and disease. Radiography is offered in collaboration with the Saint John Regional Hospital and The Moncton Hospital.

Radiological technologists use a variety of technologies such as:

• Radiography, the commonly used X-ray for the chest, bones, joints, spine and gastrointestinal system
• Mammography, for early detection of breast cancer
• Bone Mineral Densitometry for detection and follow up of osteoporosis
• Angiography, to examine the heart and vascular (veins and arteries) system
• Fluroscopy, real-time, moving images of internal structures
• Computed Tomography (CT) scanning used to obtain crosssectional virtual slices through anatomical structures and to create 3-dimensional reconstructions

Radiological technologists work directly with patients, providing a combination of technological expertise and personal one-on-one care. as a registered radiological technologist, you will:

• Assess a patient’s condition and obtain clinical history
• Determine technical parameters for production of images
• Conduct examinations within a hospital’s diagnostic imaging department, operating room, trauma room and critical care units
• Analyze images
• Collaborate with the medical team, including radiologists
• Provide education and information to the patient and their family

• Following completion of the BHS (Respiratory Therapy) students may pursue further training in the specialized treatment areas of perfusion technology, sleep medicine, neonatal or pediatric care and anaesthesia assistant.

Mathematics puts our world in order. Arts students may major or minor in Mathematics, studying calculus, geometry, algebra, statistics and mathematical theory. Mathematics provides the framework for scientific theory in applied, natural and social sciences and the principles underlying economics and business studies.
