Learning the French language provides a wealth of opportunities for your future career and ignites a passion for culture, creativity, and expression. The Department of French welcomes students who wish to learn and perfect the language as well as pursue their studies in literature and linguistics.

We offer a range of courses in French Canadian literature, cinema, and culture, with an emphasis on Acadian and Québécois writers, as well as other Francophone literatures (i.e. France, Belgium, etc.).

Our linguistics courses explore the various expressions across French Canada. We also emphasize the phenomenon of human communication and how language shapes experience.

General Information:-

The Certificate in General Studies is open to all interested individuals, but it is intended for student attending university for the first time. It is anticipated that Certificate students may proceed on to a degree program, transferring all appropriate Certificate credit(s).

UNB’s Concurrent Bachelor of Arts/Bachelor of Education (BA/BEd) program is for people who love to learn and facilitate learning. And it’s for people who want to learn from the best.

The BA/BEd at UNB Saint John attracts students who want to accomplish two goals: receive the training and skills required to become an elementary school teacher (Kindergarten to grade 5) and acquire a Bachelor of Arts (BA), all at the same time.

Why take the BA/BEd program at UNB?

The BA/BEd program will qualify you for a certificate Level 5 teaching license in New Brunswick, which is recognized by other Canadian provinces and most U.S. states. In addition, our small class sizes mean greater interaction and collaboration between you, your instructors, and your colleagues.

The Pre-MBA Program is full-time, intensive, non-credit program offered by Saint John College and UNB Saint John's Master of Business Administration program. It is designed to help international students bridge the gap between their undergraduate education, work experience and the entry requirements of UNB Saint John's MBA program.

The Pre-MBA program is designed for international students who have been conditionally accepted to the UNB Saint John MBA Program but who need to increase their level of English language ability and/or gain work experience.

The BScCS is a four-year degree program providing students with a solid foundation in core areas of computing recognized by the Canadian Information Processing Society. The program prepares students for a wide variety of careers in traditional and emerging fields in computing. Alongside core courses a targeted range of elective courses are offered through which students have the opportunity to deepen their knowledge in specific areas of computing or in complementary disciplines.

Students may choose to specialize in one of the following disciplines: software engineering, or computer networking.

Philosophy helps students explore a wide range of questions from a variety of different positions. Ask the big questions, and accept there are no easy answers. Philosophy ponders questions about meaning, truth, ethics, art, citizenship, and freedom that define who we are as individuals and leads us to a clearer sense of our role in society. 

Philosophy is available as a major, double major, or minor within the Bachelor of Arts. Students can explore the major philosophies of the past and engage with the issues and major questions of today.

What is gender and how has its definition changed over time and place? How has gender been represented through literature and other media? And how exactly do we bring about change in gender relations in the world?

These are a few questions the Gender Studies program on UNB’s Saint John campus will address, by focusing heavily on concepts such as feminism, masculinity, queer studies, and transgender studies.

The Mathematics program on the Saint John campus is available as a major and minor option as part of a Bachelor of Science degree as well as part of a Bachelor of Arts degree. Additionally, there is a major in Mathematics and Economics option as part of a Bachelor of Science degree and there is a Certificate in Mathematics for Education.

Our BScEC program will introduce you to the function and roles of Canadian and global economies, and the tools economists use to analyze the decisions made by individuals and businesses. Our BScEC graduates are well-qualified for jobs in economics or finance, or the pursuit of graduate studies in either field.
