Geological engineers merge earth sciences with engineering principles to determine what lies underground. Working primarily in the mining and mineral extraction sectors, geological engineers oversee the stability and safety of mines and of drilling sites, particularly of oil and natural gas wells.

This includes:

• Stabilizing the site against landslides and other ecological disasters
• Protecting groundwater supplies from contamination
• Ensuring all work is conducted in an environmentally sustainable way

The Pre-MBA Program is full-time, intensive, non-credit program offered by Saint John College and UNB Saint John's Master of Business Administration program. It is designed to help international students bridge the gap between their undergraduate education, work experience and the entry requirements of UNB Saint John's MBA program.

The Pre-MBA program is designed for international students who have been conditionally accepted to the UNB Saint John MBA Program but who need to increase their level of English language ability and/or gain work experience.

 UNB Saint John's Bachelor of Applied Management in Accounting (BAMAC) program complements the practical and technical accounting experience gained through a college education with university-level studies in accounting.

The BAMAC will qualify students for greater career opportunities or to pursue a professional accounting designation, such as the Chartered Professional Accountant (CPA). As an added bonus, many of the courses required in the BAMAC are the same as the required courses for the CPA professional program.

Mathematics puts our world in order. Arts students may major or minor in Mathematics, studying calculus, geometry, algebra, statistics and mathematical theory. Mathematics provides the framework for scientific theory in applied, natural and social sciences and the principles underlying economics and business studies.

With professors internationally recognized in the field and its ideal location on the St. John-Kennebecasis River estuarine complex, the campus is well equipped to offer this program.

The marine biology program is a general synopsis of the discipline with special emphasis on Canadian east coast waters. Marine biology students at UNB Saint John receive a broad, basic training that will allow them to qualify for a wide range of employment opportunities, both in Canada and abroad.

In UNB’s Bachelor of Applied Management in Hospitality and Tourism (BAMHT) program, you’ll combine practical experience in a community college setting with theoretical studies in UNB classrooms. You’ll study in Canada’s oldest incorporated city and gain valuable hands-on training and experience.

The BAMHT is available as a certificate and a degree, if entering from high school, or as a diploma and a degree, if entering from college. For the co-op mode, work terms follow Years Two and Three for high school-entry students while a work term follows Year Three (i.e. first year at UNBSJ) for college-entry students. These work terms provide hands-on, multi-level practical experiences.

Linguistics courses offer insights into the relationship between the brain, mind and language. By studying linguistics, you’ll gain the skills and knowledge to understand foreign languages and the difficulties foreign students encounter in English and French. 

Linguistic courses complement programs in Education, English, Languages, Psychology, Philosophy, Social Science, and Computer Science. Linguistics is a requirement for Speech Therapy, TESL, and other programs related to language processing and language engineering.

What you'll learn
This program provides students with a solid knowledge of basic concepts that form the foundation of linguistic theories including:

• The modules of grammar (phonology, syntax, semantics).
• The relationship between cognition and language (psycholinguistics).
• The relationship between brain and grammar (generative grammar.
• Mental processes involved in the acquisition of the first and second languages.

Good healthcare requires more than doctors and nurses. It involves managing large budgets, finding ways to reduce long wait times in emergency rooms, making sure there are adequate supplies of vaccines and other medicines available when they are needed, and recruiting, hiring and managing the workforce of a hospital, nursing home, or community health clinic. It also includes activities like overseeing the health and safety of employees at a manufacturing plant, planning effective public health education campaigns about the health risks of vaping, and connecting the manufacturers of new medical devices with the surgeons who will use them. 

What all of these activities have in common is that they require management skills: financial management; human resources management; strategic planning; marketing; understanding of how organizations function, and how they can work better. These skills are in high demand in New Brunswick and elsewhere.

The Bachelor of Health – Management in Health Major is a 4-year interdisciplinary program offering a solid training in management with a focus on the health sector. All Bachelor of Health students complete core courses covering the biological and social determinants of health, current health issues, health policy, the management of healthcare services, and data analysis.

In addition to the core Health courses taken each year, Management in Health majors take a series of required and elective courses which develop the business skills necessary in the operation of various types of organizations in the health sector. The program is also comprehensive preparation for further professional or graduate studies.

Hands-on learning

Bachelor of Health students experience a variety of work settings in the healthcare system and in the community through job-shadowing and internships. 

In the fourth year capstone course, students from all three majors (Health and Society, Management in Health, and Biomedical Sciences and Health) come together to work in multidisciplinary teams to analyze and address a critical health issue identified in consultation with experts in the healthcare sector.
