This program is designed to equip students with the necessary financial tools for a career in either the corporate sector or investment. The theory and practice of financial management are combined with a comprehensive presentation of the financial instruments issued by corporations and modern valuation techniques. Students can extend their financial knowledge by focusing on derivative markets, and specialized topics in corporate and international finance. 

The period known as the European Middle Ages has endowed the Western world with a rich architectural, musical, poetic, theological, literary and linguistic heritage. Our vision of the world has its origins in the Long Medieval period, so studying this era that starts at the end of Antiquity and reaches the Modern times introduces you to your past in all its dimensions: linguistic, cultural, historical, political, philosophical and religious. These multidisciplinary programs include courses in history, philosophy, music, theatre, English, French, Italian, and Latin literatures.

We offer what we believe are the finest graduate programs in Economics in Canada. Our programs prepare students for both applied and theoretical research, and, especially in the case of the M.A. program, for nonacademic careers in both the private and public sectors. Both programs involve a core of courses in economic theory and quantitative methods, together with a range of specialized electives chosen according to each student’s interest.

Mathematics
Mathematics and statistics are not only powerful problem-solving tools, but also highly creative fields of studies that combine imagination with logic, and precision with intuition. 

Mathematics is much more than numbers! Its basic goal is to reveal and model general patterns to help explain our world, whether they be found in electrical impulses in the human nervous system, the evolution of animal populations in their habitats, fluctuations in stock-market prices, or electronic communications. Mathematics reaches far beyond science and engineering into medicine, business and the social sciences. 

Advances in mathematics and statistics lie behind many discoveries that are now part of our daily lives, such as MRI scanners, digital compression of music and video, secure electronic communications, data mining, genomic algorithms, futures pricing, and many other innovations. 

The Department of Mathematics and Statistics offers Honours, majors and minors both in mathematics and in statistics. Our Honours program in statistics is accredited by the Statistical Society of Canada, allowing graduates to earn the A.Stat. professional designation. Moreover, the Department offers a joint honours program in mathematics and economics, a joint honours program in mathematics and computer science, as well as a multidisciplinary program in financial mathematics and economics. All our honours programs also include the co-operative education option.

Economics
Ever wonder why some countries are richer than others? Ever question why income inequality has been growing? Ever wonder why Canadian politicians worry when other countries may be going bankrupt? Economics can answer all these questions. 

Economics examines how individuals and society make choices in a world where resources are limited. It focuses on the production, distribution and consumption of goods and services. Two important themes are efficiency (the absence of waste in the use of resources) and fairness. Since making choices is central to all human activities, studying economics often helps explain why people and governments behave in certain ways.

The Honours Bachelor of Human Kinetics (BHK) emphasizes the social sciences aspects of physical activity, sport, active leisure and health. It provides the knowledge and skills required to play a leading role in developing, promoting and implementing programs, policies and positive lifestyle behaviours for different populations in a variety of settings. Students will have the opportunity to do experiential education internships in a community venue, or do a research project supervised by faculty. Graduates of this program will gain theoretical and applied knowledge from disciplines such as sociology, psychology, pedagogy/coaching, leisure studies and administration, as well as foundational understandings of the biophysical aspects of human movement. This program prepares students to pursue a number of job opportunities in community recreation and sport; socio-cultural studies in leisure and sport; sport and leisure management; coaching in sport; teaching in schools and other settings; sport psychology; and sport, physical activity and health consultancy.

The option in management is designed to provide students with general management skills while balancing practical and analytical concerns in the search for improvements to the decision-making process. It emphasizes creativity, innovation and the ability to generate project ideas, to evaluate them and to bring them to fruition. 

Welcome to centre stage! From practice to theory, from performance to reception, the Department of Theatre explores all aspects of theatrical events and prepares you for a life of creative expression and intellectual stimulation. We teach acting, directing, playwriting, arts administration, dramaturgy, theatre history, production, technical theatre and design as well as theory and aesthetics. When it comes to practice, opportunities abound: the Department boasts two major theatre companies and three student companies producing up to thirty original productions a season.

The purpose of the Biomedical Mechanical Engineering program is to graduate engineers proficient in the areas of biomedical engineering related to mechanical engineering. These include the design of medical devices such as artificial hearts, implants and prostheses, the development and selection of bio-compatible metallic and non-metallic materials for implants and medical equipment, robotics for medical applications, biomechanics and rehabilitation engineering.

The program structure parallels that of the regular Mechanical Engineering program, replacing eight courses in the regular program with biomedically-oriented courses.

This program has a broad scope, so that graduates may have a wide range of career choices, not only in the biomedical field but also in conventional mechanical engineering. Biomedical systems are among the most complex of mechanical systems; therefore, a strong and comprehensive education in standard mechanical engineering principles is provided, with emphasis on their application in biomedical systems.

Upon completion of a Bachelor of Applied Science in Biomedical Mechanical Engineering, a student who completes the requirements specified below for 30 extra units will be eligible for a BSc in Computing Technology, as a second degree. The remaining 132 units are from their engineering degree; students follow the engineering degree requirements and the Computing Technology degree requirements in parallel. It is not allowed to obtain the Computing Technology degree without also completing the corresponding engineering degree.

The MPH is a course-based program with an experiential learning component (Public Health Practicum) and a culminating experience (Applied Public Health Capstone Project) which demonstrates integration and synthesis of public health skills and knowledge. It is to be completed full-time over 4 terms.

The MPH builds on SEPH’s existing strengths in global health, population health risk assessment, and empirical public health sciences. The content and structure of the program are also consistent with the Canadian Guidelines for MPH programs developed by the Network of Schools and Programs of Public and Population Health, the entity which represents the professional and academic public health community in Canada.

Areas of Focus
Students will opt into one of four areas in which to focus their learning:

• Public Health Practice
• Public Health Policy
• Global Health
• Population Health Risk Assessment.

Enhanced Policy Training
We are partnered with the Graduate School of Public and International Affairs so that the MPH program can offer enhanced policy training to all enrolled students, and a policy stream that is unique in Ontario. This program will create leaders in the practice of public health and in public health policy analysis.

Program Goals
The MPH program will produce professionals who are competent, flexible, and ready to respond to diverse and changing population, disease, and political contexts in Canada and globally. In short it will prepare candidates for meaningful professional careers in the field of public health. 

The program has three goals:

• Prepare leaders for strong and professional public health practice and policy work in Canada and globally.
• For graduates planning a professional public health practice career, ensure a superior understanding of the policy perspective
• For graduates planning a public health policy career, ensure a superior understanding of the scientific evidence perspective.

The BA in Interdisciplinary Studies program is meant for you. It is flexible and provide you not only with a solid general education in a setting known for its vibrancy, but also with the opportunity to take a range of courses in Arts-specific fields (fine arts, humanities, languages and literatures) or even in other faculties. You can also do a minor – but it is not compulsory – in a specific subject, like foreign languages, art history, music, theatre, communication, history, geography, religious studies, linguistics, etc.
