History
History is the discipline that focuses on the diverse and complex ways that individuals and groups have created and adjusted to change over thousands of years around the world. In studying change over time, history students learn to interpret evidence of human thought and behavior, in order to understand the impact of individual and collective decision-making, the changing relationships among people and societies, and between humans and their environment. 

Political Science
Politics is omnipresent in our lives. Political science seeks to describe, analyze, understand and assess the principles and power relations that govern social life. It revolves as much around the structures and institutions that define these relations and principles as around the ideas and practices that drive them. It studies everything that influences political life and institutions (ideologies, groups, social movements, etc.) on a local, regional, national and international scale.

Our programs offer in-depth training in political science and encourage critical reflection on pivotal issues like citizenship, identity, political participation, globalization and development, governance and the state, and ethics and democracy. A discipline open to many theoretical and methodological approaches, political science constantly exchanges and shares with other fields. At the University of Ottawa's School of Political Studies, you build your knowledge in four subfields of political science: political thought, Canadian and Quebec politics, comparative politics, and international relations and global politics.

Established in 1983, the Ottawa-Carleton Institute for Physics (OCIP) combines the research strengths of the University of Ottawa and Carleton University. The Institute offers graduate programs leading to master’s (MSc) and doctoral (Ph.D.) degrees in Physics.

Research facilities are shared between the two campuses. Students have access to the professors, courses and facilities at both universities; however, they must enroll at the “home university” of the thesis supervisor.

The MHA program has close links to other faculties including the Faculty of Health Sciences and the Faculty of Medicine to assure relevance to clinical practice for health service administration.

The MHA program also has close links with hospitals, long-term care institutions, community health agencies, psychiatric institutions, federal and provincial governments, and international, national, and provincial health organizations to assure curricular relevance and excellence.

Moreover, the program maintains close ties with the Canadian College of Health Service Executives, the American College of Health Service Executives, and other professional bodies across North America. The emphasis in this program is on proactive management with a vision of humanistic leadership and public service in a period of intense change in health care systems around the world.

The MHA aims to prepare students for the managerial and leadership responsibilities faced in rapidly changing health care environments.

The MHA program was designed with working professionals in mind. Spread over a period of 24 months, students can expect to complete 9 units per semester. All courses are taught in English. The MHA requires that students complete either an administrative residency of at least 16 weeks or a consulting project of approximately 200h. The goal of these experiential learning activities is to expand the students' experience in health care or health policy and awareness of the applicability of the material covered in the academic portion of the program to the practical world of management of health care. Students can do their administrative residency or their business consulting project, in English or in French, at any recognized and approved health agency.

The Honours Bachelor of Science in Nursing is a four-year program. It is offered jointly with two Ottawa-area colleges, and in both official languages. It seeks to prepare the next generation of nurses to offer quality nursing care and to assume leadership within the health care system. Its mandate is to prepare generalist nurses (a) who can work in any place offering nursing care, (b) who have developed effective communication skills, (c) who use their critical thinking and analytical skills at work and (d) who are open to lifelong learning. These programs also lead to graduate studies (MSc, MSc — PHCNP, PhD) in nursing sciences at the University of Ottawa.

Software engineering is a CO-OP only program that emphasizes innovation and teamwork to develop practical, solution-driven thinking. During their fourth-year project, students in this program can form teams and leverage their work experience to create real applications; some students even start their own companies. They learn how to apply engineering principles—including rapid prototyping, requirements analysis, system modelling, design, implementation, testing and project management—to develop software. Software engineers are key professionals in fields such as high tech, finance, telecommunications, government, health care, transportation and entertainment.

The School of Music offers the Master of Music (MMus) with concentration in Composition, the Master of Music (MMus) with concentration in Performance and the Master of Arts (MA) in Music. Performance studies are offered in piano, collaborative piano, voice, orchestral instruments, guitar, and conducting.

Environmental issues fill the headlines — climate change, the oil sands, species loss, to name but a few. Is it possible to grow the economy and protect the environment at the same time? Is our current economic path sustainable? The Honours Bachelor in Environmental Economics and Public Policy provides students with a multidisciplinary understanding of the environment, the economy and the interaction between the two. The program includes a CO-OP option, and students may also undertake a research internship in the public or non-profit sector in fourth year. All students undertake original policy research in a capstone course in either environmental or natural resource economics. The program opens doors to careers in environment-economy policy development and analysis in the public, private and non-profit sectors.

The MBA program is conceived for candidates with at least three years of work experience. The program may be completed on a full-time basis over twelve (12) consecutive months. If the degree requirements are completed on a part-time basis, program duration is then normally twenty-four (24) months.The Telfer School of Management also offers an Executive MBA (EMBA) program which is designed for mid-career and senior level executives who seek a Global, Practical and Relevant experience all while earning a graduate degree. The program provides a strong foundation in all management disciplines, develops management and people skills, and refines the students' ability to view and analyze issues, opportunities and situations from a strategic perspective, allowing them to become responsible agents of change. Emphasis is placed on the applications of relevant, contemporary management concepts, models and philosophies with an integrated approach to problem solving and an appreciation of all aspects of the organization.

The pedagogical approach stresses teamwork and managerial skills development. It allows the student to grapple with real-world challenges facing organizations through industry-based integrating projects that draw upon multiple disciplines.

The student population is drawn from around the world and brings to the program a variety of educational backgrounds as well as professional expertise from the private and public sectors.

The program combines academic excellence with a strong concern for the practical challenges facing modern managers. To this end, it makes significant use of practitioner-oriented teaching materials and business simulations, and allows students to become actively involved with organizations.

Cohorts and Work Groups
The MBA Program is designed to build on the academic and cultural diversity of its student body. A cohort environment allows students to work and learn together, benefiting from each other's strengths, capabilities and experience. The program carefully creates work groups composed of students with different academic, cultural and professional profiles. Progressing through the program in these work groups provides students with an enriching learning experience and a unique opportunity to develop their ability to function within a culturally diverse environment.

The integrated MBA curriculum prepares students to become leaders in a technology-intensive global economy and as such is delivered around five major themes:

Journalism is currently undergoing a digital shift (Internet, mobile and tablet technology, data journalism), driving change in journalistic practice and forcing practitioners to develop new skills techniques and approaches. Today's journalists need to fill a diversity of roles, requiring not only a good understanding of emerging social trends, but also specialized expertise and knowledge. 

With this program, students (future digital journalists) will better understand the challenges related to journalism in the Digital Age, in order to help them enter the fast-changing media industry. Upon graduation, you will be qualified for an exciting career as a journalist, researcher, presenter, media analyst, producer, etc. 

The Department of Communication offers the Honours Bachelor in Digital Journalism jointly with Algonquin College (in English) and with La Cité (in French). Courses at the Department of Communication will provide theoretical, analytical and critical foundations, while courses at the College will focus on practical training. Combining both theory and practice, this training is bound to give you a head start.
