The University of Regina offers an exciting inter-disciplinary research-oriented graduate degree program in Gerontology. The study of gerontology (the comprehensive study of aging and the problems and opportunities of older adults) is becoming increasingly important because it addresses one of the most significant demographic issues confronting our society today, namely the increasing proportion of the population that is over the age of 65. Students with professional degrees, (e.g., medicine, social work, physical therapy, nursing, optometry, etc.) as well as undergraduate degrees in kinesiology, psychology, health studies, health science, biology or other related health disciplines are encouraged to apply for the fall semester. The program is coordinated by the Centre on Aging and Health, University of Regina and involves the collaboration of the Faculty of Arts, the Faculty of Kinesiology and Health Studies and the Faculty of Social Work. Students can work towards an M.A. or an M.Sc. degree depending on the nature of their thesis research. The program aims to provide research training and specialized gerontological knowledge to health professionals and to students wishing to pursue doctoral studies and research careers. The program aims to address both the physiological and psychosocial aspects of aging.

The Department of Computer Science offers programs of study involving interdepartmental, multi-institutional and inter-institutional collaboration that has attracted faculty members and graduate students from all over the world. Students may pursue full-time or part-time graduate study leading towards the MSc and PhD degrees.

The MSc and PhD degrees in Computer Science focus on four main areas of research: artificial intelligence; databases and information retrieval; graphics, image and audio processing; multimedia, and software engineering. Specifically, active research topics conducted by faculty members include, but are not limited to:

• Data mining, knowledge discovery and machine learning, Bayesian networks, rough set theory, uncertainty management, quantitative and temporal reasoning
• Graphical modeling and rendering algorithms, animation, image and signal processing, facial recognition, computational music and audio, information visualization, human computer interaction
• Information retrieval, cognitive informatics, Web intelligence and service, electronic commerce, database theory, and information theory and its applications in communications
• Language-based software security, data security, agent-oriented software engineering, software reuse, formal methods, and distance education
• Algorithm design and analysis, theory of computing, computational geometry, graph theory

MSc (Project Route)
A fully qualified student may complete a Master's project route by undertaking 21 credits of coursework and 9 credits of professionally oriented project research. The student must complete a project report to the satisfaction of his/her supervisor(s), and pass a project defense. In addition, the student is required to give two non-credit CS seminar presentations.

Religious studies is an exciting program that teaches about different cultures, behaviors, and beliefs. It will give you insight into a broad range of religious expressions around the globe, and the historical roots of the different traditions.

Religious studies offers courses in a wide variety of religions and promotes analytic approaches to religious beliefs.

Do you like to explore questions related to human existence? Do you enjoy debating the meaning of life? Philosophy asks many questions and encourages us to scrutinize the everyday assumptions that shape our lives. As a philosophy student, you will study classic philosophers such as Aristotle and Plato and will explore the influential and world-changing ideas of Descartes, Marx, and Rousseau. You will learn to challenge and question the world we live in, learn to reevaluate the everyday and theorize about different belief systems.

The professional Master's option in Journalism is a 30 credit program to be completed over three semesters. It is not an academic track degree; rather it is designed to develop students' capacity for advanced journalistic investigation. Candidates will take a suite of core courses in the theory, history and methods of journalism as well as two advanced specialization options (in print, magazine, broadcast, documentary, international media, alternative media or photojournalism). An outside elective will draw on the resources of other departments and programs and will be related to students' professional capstone projects. In lieu of a thesis, their professional Master’s project will be completed under the supervision of an assigned faculty member. Long-form journalism proposals may include a film or radio documentary; a creative non-fiction or investigative series for magazine, newspaper or online publication; a publisher-ready book proposal and first chapter; a photo-journalism exhibit; or a community-based media project. Students will follow a rigorous and methodical process of research planning and investigation to produce journalism of publication / broadcast quality. Proposals must meaningfully advance the public interest.  Students will also participate in a Master's workshop, as they move from the conceptualization and investigation phases to the project production phase. The film and video studies program results in a liberal arts degree where you will focus on media studies while developing skills in critical thinking, analysis, problem solving, decision making and communication. You will also develop transdisciplinary knowledge and a strong awareness of culture.

The Department of Physics at the University of Regina offers programs leading to the B.Sc. and B.Sc. Honours degrees in Pure and Applied/Industrial Physics degrees in Experimental and Theoretical Subatomic Physics. Co-operative Education programs with local industry play an important role in our undergraduate degree programs.

The University is a member of the TRIUMF subatomic physics laboratory in Vancouver, and has a close relationship with the Jefferson Laboratory in Newport News, Virginia, USA. As of January 1, 2010, the University became a member of the Southeastern Universities Research Association. This honour was in recognition of two decades of productive research by U of R physicists at Jefferson Lab.

Research
Our programs offer experiential learning in the classroom and lab. Our students spend time at TRIUMF and the Jefferson Lab, gaining experience with large, experimental physics facilities. Undergraduates have the opportunity to do their own, independent research projects, learning alongside graduate students and experienced faculty, while our graduate students can build their skills working closely with supervisors who will guide and support their growth as researchers.

Co-operative Education Program 
For students who are entering the Master of Human Resource Management program in their early career with limited professional experience, Co-op work placements offer an opportunity to apply principles learned in class in a working environment.  Co-op students also gain valuable workplace experience proven to add value to the classroom experience for themselves and other students.  The Co-op route also provides an opportunity for early career MHRM students to secure management level jobs that they might not otherwise have access to.

Students in the Levene MBA with Specializations, MHRM or MAdmin programs may apply for admission to do Co-op. Students must have completed at least four classes, have no failing grades, and normally obtained a minimum CGPA of 75% before applying for co-op. You must also be a full time student in good standing. Graduate students will follow the same work term requirements pertaining to undergraduate students, such as length of terms, suitability of work placements, and codes of conduct.

The University of Regina Department of English is a medium-sized department offering courses and research opportunities in most areas of English, American, and Canadian literatures. The size of its student body ensures that students have ample opportunity for intellectual discussion with their peers, but also the close contact with faculty members that larger institutions are unable to provide. The Department currently offers three routes for the MA in English: course-based, Creative Writing, and thesis-based. The course MA (ten courses) provides an opportunity to achieve a breadth of knowledge in many areas of English literature. The thesis MA (five courses plus thesis) provides an opportunity to do in-depth research, and an extended piece of writing, on one area of English literature. The Master's degree is normally the highest offered in the Department of English at the University of Regina, and affords the Department the opportunity for close support of Master’s students and high-priority supervision of Master's theses Both the thesis and course MA offer students excellent preparation for graduate studies at the doctoral level, or for jobs and careers in English. The Department of English is offering an MA in Creative Writing: this degree consists of five courses (in Creative Writing and English Literature/Theory), and a creative thesis with a critical/theoretical introduction.
