Visual arts covers a broad range of two- and three-dimensional media such as sculpture, painting, ceramics and printmaking, among others. Geography and environmental studies differ from other subjects due to their emphasis on space, place, and how humans connect and interact with their environment. Major global challenges of our time, such as climate change, depletion of natural resources, water availability, migration, war and conflict are better understood and addressed by those who have an in-depth knowledge of geography and environmental studies. The subject is diverse and is based on both natural science and social studies.

What is Geography and Environmental Studies?
Geography and Environmental Studies encompasses three areas:

• Human geography
• Physical geography
• Environmental studies

Human geography analyses the way humans use and understand the world and addresses the spatial differentiation and organization of human activity and its interrelationships with the physical environment.

Physical geography—a component of Earth sciences—is the study of the natural processes that occur at and above the surface of the Earth.

Geography is one of mankind’s earliest scientific disciplines and studies the environment – everything that surrounds us, including human beings.

Environmental Studies encompasses the study of the planet and its intricate variety of living and non-living elements and processes, how human beings connect with the physical structures, institutions and economies we build, and the politics, language and culture by which we communicate.

Situated in the heart of the Canadian prairies on Treaty 4 territory and the homeland of the Métis people, the Faculty of Science aspires to be a premier postsecondary academic unit, recognized for the significance, novelty, and impact of its research, and for the quality, relevance, and currency of its academic programs. The program emphasis is on water and wastewater treatment, solid and hazardous waste management, air quality management, industrial air pollution control, groundwa ter contamination, geotechnical engineering, transportation, sustainability and urban development, risk assessment, environmental modeling/simulation/optimization, and energy & environment.

The University of Regina offers an exciting inter-disciplinary research-oriented graduate degree program in Gerontology. The study of gerontology (the comprehensive study of aging and the problems and opportunities of older adults) is becoming increasingly important because it addresses one of the most significant demographic issues confronting our society today, namely the increasing proportion of the population that is over the age of 65. Students with professional degrees, (e.g., medicine, social work, physical therapy, nursing, optometry, etc.) as well as undergraduate degrees in kinesiology, psychology, health studies, health science, biology or other related health disciplines are encouraged to apply for the fall semester. The program is coordinated by the Centre on Aging and Health, University of Regina and involves the collaboration of the Faculty of Arts, the Faculty of Kinesiology and Health Studies and the Faculty of Social Work. Students can work towards an M.A. or an M.Sc. degree depending on the nature of their thesis research. The program aims to provide research training and specialized gerontological knowledge to health professionals and to students wishing to pursue doctoral studies and research careers. The program aims to address both the physiological and psychosocial aspects of aging.

Students can complete the pre-dentistry requirements for the College of Dentistry at the University of Saskatchewan at the University of Regina. Students are eligible to apply to the College of Dentistry after two academic years each consisting of two standard academic terms of eight consecutive months (September to April). Specific courses are required. All applicants must take the Dental Aptitude Test administered by the Canadian Dental Association. Pre-dentistry courses completed at the University of Regina can be used toward a variety of programs at the University of Regina.

The MEd in Curriculum and Instruction degree is designed for licensed teachers seeking to become learning specialists in a selected area of the field of education, to advance within their career and to meet professional development renewal requirements. This option is made available to those students who, as teacher-librarians, have a specific interest in this area of education. Our growing capacity to network with other institutions via technology makes it possible to include graduate level courses for teacher-librarians.

Do you like to explore questions related to human existence? Do you enjoy debating the meaning of life? Philosophy asks many questions and encourages us to scrutinize the everyday assumptions that shape our lives. As a philosophy student, you will study classic philosophers such as Aristotle and Plato and will explore the influential and world-changing ideas of Descartes, Marx, and Rousseau. You will learn to challenge and question the world we live in, learn to reevaluate the everyday and theorize about different belief systems.

The MA program in French and Francophone Intercultural Studies is designed for students interested in literature, language, translation, linguistics, terminology, applied linguistics, gender and cultural studies, and the history of ideas. The program covers French, Quebec, French-Canadian and postcolonial French literatures. For French-Canadian studies, collaboration with the Institut français, the Department of History, Women's Studies and the Canadian Plains Research Center (CPRC) and other units makes possible linguistic and cultural studies of French communities in Western Canada.

What is Environmental Systems Engineering?
Our Environmental Systems Engineering (EVSE) program is very popular with students and respected by industry, largely because of its timely combination of environmental concerns and the systems approach to addressing civil and industrial environmental issues. Areas of study include environmental system design and impact and risk assessment.
