The department has particular strengths in the following general areas: political economy; Marxist and critical theory; political sociology; sociology of environment, development and sustainability; social justice; sociology of knowledge, science and technology; social science methodology and quantitative social research techniques; Canadian studies; social history; gender and women's studies; and rural sociology. As well, the department maintains a commitment to a strong interdisciplinary social science program which can draw on the resources of other departments and academic areas.

The department offers a graduate program leading to the MA degree in Sociology or in Social Studies. Successful applicants for entrance to the Master's program will be advised and supervised in their work by a committee of faculty.

Course based MA Program Description

• The program requires the completion of 30 credit hours in courses, including 9 credit hours of required cores courses.  The remaining courses (21 credit hours) are selected from two or more of the social sciences, or approved courses in graduate programs other than the social sciences. A Program Advisor is assigned to assist students in developing a program of courses.  The proposed program will be submitted to the Department's Graduate Program Committee for approval.

Actuarial Science is the application of mathematics, statistics, and risk theories to the design of insurance and pension programs.

Actuaries' areas of expertise are extensive and involve a wide range of business aspects such as operations research, finances, economics, investment analysis, analysis of medical risk, accounting, legal and regulatory aspects of insurance and pensions, among others. In other words, actuaries apply mathematical skills to the business environment, and they are experts in risk management. The actuarial profession offers continuous challenges and it requires a strong mathematical ability along with proficiency in various business skills. It is also a rewarding career with excellent opportunities for intellectual development and financial gain. The Actuarial Science Program provides students with a strong facility in actuarial methodology and applications. There is 12 month internship program that is also available to students.

Graduates from the Actuarial Science Program have close to 100% hiring success in the Actuarial Industry. The BSc in Actuarial Science is the only program of its kind in Saskatchewan, and it is one of only 11 programs nationally that are accredited by the Canadian Institute of Actuaries.

Co-operative Education Program 
For students who are entering the Master of Human Resource Management program in their early career with limited professional experience, Co-op work placements offer an opportunity to apply principles learned in class in a working environment.  Co-op students also gain valuable workplace experience proven to add value to the classroom experience for themselves and other students.  The Co-op route also provides an opportunity for early career MHRM students to secure management level jobs that they might not otherwise have access to.

Students in the Levene MBA with Specializations, MHRM or MAdmin programs may apply for admission to do Co-op. Students must have completed at least four classes, have no failing grades, and normally obtained a minimum CGPA of 75% before applying for co-op. You must also be a full time student in good standing. Graduate students will follow the same work term requirements pertaining to undergraduate students, such as length of terms, suitability of work placements, and codes of conduct.

The professional Master's option in Journalism is a 30 credit program to be completed over three semesters. It is not an academic track degree; rather it is designed to develop students' capacity for advanced journalistic investigation. Candidates will take a suite of core courses in the theory, history and methods of journalism as well as two advanced specialization options (in print, magazine, broadcast, documentary, international media, alternative media or photojournalism). An outside elective will draw on the resources of other departments and programs and will be related to students' professional capstone projects. In lieu of a thesis, their professional Master’s project will be completed under the supervision of an assigned faculty member. Long-form journalism proposals may include a film or radio documentary; a creative non-fiction or investigative series for magazine, newspaper or online publication; a publisher-ready book proposal and first chapter; a photo-journalism exhibit; or a community-based media project. Students will follow a rigorous and methodical process of research planning and investigation to produce journalism of publication / broadcast quality. Proposals must meaningfully advance the public interest.  Students will also participate in a Master's workshop, as they move from the conceptualization and investigation phases to the project production phase. The four-year Bachelor of Music degree program provides excellent preparation in the fields of performance (vocal or instrumental), composition, or comprehensive music. Private studio lessons help students develop their technique and artistry. Individual study is complemented by courses in the history, analysis and theory of music that cover historical and contemporary music. The Petroleum Systems Engineering program in the Faculty of Engineering offers graduate programs focused on conducting research in the areas of enhanced oil recovery (EOR), reservoir modeling and simulation, heavy oil recovery through SAGD and VAPEX processes, miscible and immiscible displacement, fluid-rock interactions, and underground storage of carbon dioxide in depleted or partially-depleted hydrocarbon reservoirs. These graduate programs lead to masters and doctoral degrees.

The Resource and Environmental Studies program introduces students to resource and environmental legislation, resource management, contemporary environmental issues and environmental and community health and explores how these topics affect Indigenous peoples, cultures and histories.

The Bachelor of Arts in Resource and Environmental Studies is a joint program with Saskatchewan Polytechnic, Woodland Campus and First Nations University of Canada. Completion of the Saskatchewan Polytechnic, Prince Albert Campus, Resource and Environmental Law Diploma or Saskatchewan Polytechnic’s Integrated Resource Management Diploma is required for admission to this program.

This is a 30 credit hour (10 courses) diploma offered by Faculty of Media, Art, & Performance. It will enable students with no previous film training to gain a diploma in film production within one year.

Students will take courses in narrative modes of film production, technical aspects and media theory. The admission requirements are the same as those for the Faculty of MAP, but students must also have either a Bachelor's degree in a field other than Film Production, or 90 credit hours in any other discipline.

The University of Regina Department of English is a medium-sized department offering courses and research opportunities in most areas of English, American, and Canadian literatures. The size of its student body ensures that students have ample opportunity for intellectual discussion with their peers, but also the close contact with faculty members that larger institutions are unable to provide. The Department currently offers three routes for the MA in English: course-based, Creative Writing, and thesis-based. The course MA (ten courses) provides an opportunity to achieve a breadth of knowledge in many areas of English literature. The thesis MA (five courses plus thesis) provides an opportunity to do in-depth research, and an extended piece of writing, on one area of English literature. The Master's degree is normally the highest offered in the Department of English at the University of Regina, and affords the Department the opportunity for close support of Master’s students and high-priority supervision of Master's theses Both the thesis and course MA offer students excellent preparation for graduate studies at the doctoral level, or for jobs and careers in English. The Department of English is offering an MA in Creative Writing: this degree consists of five courses (in Creative Writing and English Literature/Theory), and a creative thesis with a critical/theoretical introduction.
