The department has particular strengths in the following general areas: political economy; Marxist and critical theory; political sociology; sociology of environment, development and sustainability; social justice; sociology of knowledge, science and technology; social science methodology and quantitative social research techniques; Canadian studies; social history; gender and women's studies; and rural sociology. As well, the department maintains a commitment to a strong interdisciplinary social science program which can draw on the resources of other departments and academic areas.

The department offers a graduate program leading to the MA degree in Sociology or in Social Studies. Successful applicants for entrance to the Master's program will be advised and supervised in their work by a committee of faculty.

Course based MA Program Description

• The program requires the completion of 30 credit hours in courses, including 9 credit hours of required cores courses.  The remaining courses (21 credit hours) are selected from two or more of the social sciences, or approved courses in graduate programs other than the social sciences. A Program Advisor is assigned to assist students in developing a program of courses.  The proposed program will be submitted to the Department's Graduate Program Committee for approval.

The four-year Bachelor of Music degree program provides excellent preparation in the fields of performance (vocal or instrumental), composition, or comprehensive music. Private studio lessons help students develop their technique and artistry. Individual study is complemented by courses in the history, analysis and theory of music that cover historical and contemporary music. Process Systems Engineering (PSEng) is a broad category of engineering that deals with the process design for the purpose of converting raw goods to usable end products, including energy. Process engineering looks at the entire process from Point A, which is a raw material, to Point Z, which is the desired end product. It does not necessarily deal with acquiring the raw base material, although knowledge of its acquisition is part of the U of R’s systems approach to teaching and research.

The Master's program consists of the following minimum credit-hour requirements listed below. In addition, it is mandatory for all students to:

• Attend all department seminars each semester they are on campus
• Present a department seminar and two progress reports on their research
• Complete and defend a research thesis

We offer high-quality undergraduate and graduate programs. The undergraduate programs have strong hands-on components as many courses include laboratories developed and overseen by four full-time laboratory instructors. Junior and senior students also benefit from small classes (5 - 25 students). We have an active honours program, a co-op program and many opportunities for students to participate in research projects. Accessible, modern research facilities put our PhD and MSc students at the forefront in their fields. Research
Our programs offer experiential learning in the classroom, lab, and field settings. Undergraduates have the opportunity to do their own, independent research projects, learning alongside graduate students and experienced faculty, while our graduate students can build their skills working closely with supervisors who will guide and support their growth as researchers.

This is a 30 credit hour (10 courses) diploma offered by Faculty of Media, Art, & Performance. It will enable students with no previous film training to gain a diploma in film production within one year.

Students will take courses in narrative modes of film production, technical aspects and media theory. The admission requirements are the same as those for the Faculty of MAP, but students must also have either a Bachelor's degree in a field other than Film Production, or 90 credit hours in any other discipline.
