The department has particular strengths in the following general areas: political economy; Marxist and critical theory; political sociology; sociology of environment, development and sustainability; social justice; sociology of knowledge, science and technology; social science methodology and quantitative social research techniques; Canadian studies; social history; gender and women's studies; and rural sociology. As well, the department maintains a commitment to a strong interdisciplinary social science program which can draw on the resources of other departments and academic areas.

The department offers a graduate program leading to the MA degree in Sociology or in Social Studies. Successful applicants for entrance to the Master's program will be advised and supervised in their work by a committee of faculty.

Course based MA Program Description

• The program requires the completion of 30 credit hours in courses, including 9 credit hours of required cores courses.  The remaining courses (21 credit hours) are selected from two or more of the social sciences, or approved courses in graduate programs other than the social sciences. A Program Advisor is assigned to assist students in developing a program of courses.  The proposed program will be submitted to the Department's Graduate Program Committee for approval.

Visual arts covers a broad range of two- and three-dimensional media such as sculpture, painting, ceramics and printmaking, among others. You will work alongside professors and instructors who themselves are curators, artists, researchers and critics and are active in the Canadian art community and beyond.

Electronic Systems Engineering conducts research and offers graduate courses in selected areas of microelectronics, signal processing, instrumentation and communications. The Master of Engineering degree program with a project report attracts practicing engineers. It complements the Graduate Cooperative Education Program which seeks to integrate the academic experience with professional, on-the-job experience to facilitate professional development.

The Department of Music’s MMus and MA degrees can lead to career opportunities in performance, education, library science, music publishing, media, and arts administration, among others. It also provides exciting potential for further studies at the doctoral level. Our programs promote study in areas as traditional or contemporary as you are, with individualized instruction, and excellent performance and rehearsal facilities. There is also ample opportunity to explore interdisciplinary studies with the other Media, Art, and Performance areas.

Master of Music (MMus) in Composition
This 30 credit hour program offers the opportunity for intensive individualized studies in Composition. Over four semesters, students create a portfolio of compositions for varying performance mediums, including one work of at least 12 minutes duration, accompanied by a written analytical commentary. All students also take graduate courses in critical theory in the fine arts, and in research techniques specific to music.

The Faculty of Science has nearly 1800 undergraduate and graduate students in academic programs leading to Bachelors, Masters, and Doctoral degrees, as well as a number of diplomas and certificates. The Department of Biology has expertise in ecology and evolution, cell and molecular biology and organismal physiology/biochemistry. Our field station is located in the picturesque Cypress Hills of southwestern Saskatchewan, and is used for both field-based research and for upper-level courses. We are also home to the Environmental Quality Analysis Laboratory (EQAL), which houses stable isotope ratio mass spectrometers and other equipment for the analysis of varied environmental parameters. As well, the Department of Biology has modern facilities for molecular biology and related disciplines, is home to the George Ledingham Herbarium and to a modern aquatics facility for housing a variety of aquatic vertebrates. Our faculty and students conduct research in a wide variety of locations across Canada and elsewhere, and have national and international collaborations. The Biology Department also has close connections and collaborations with the Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry and with various local, provincial, and national agencies.

This 60 credit hour (20-course) certificate offered by the Faculty of Arts provides students with targeted exposure to a variety of criminal and social justice issues in the Canadian and international environments. Students will explore a wide range of disciplinary perspectives and approaches and apply them to the study of justice.

This Diploma program may be used as a ladder into 4-year major programs in Human Justice and Police Studies.

The Master of Education in Adult Education and Human Resource Development degree program (MEd AHRD) is intended to prepare individuals for specialized educational roles in organizations involved in training & development, and/or adult training institutions.  Students will be able to select courses in both or either the Adult Education or the Human Resource Development streams, within one combined program.
