The Bachelor of Health Studies is jointly administered between the Faculty of Kinesiology and Health Studies and the Faculty of Arts in partnership with First Nations University of Canada.

In the health studies bachelor’s degree program, you will gain a broad understanding of how determinants of health shape the wellbeing of people, families and communities. This includes experiences of illnesses and diseases, but also what people need to live healthy lives.

The professional Master's option in Journalism is a 30 credit program to be completed over three semesters. It is not an academic track degree; rather it is designed to develop students' capacity for advanced journalistic investigation. Candidates will take a suite of core courses in the theory, history and methods of journalism as well as two advanced specialization options (in print, magazine, broadcast, documentary, international media, alternative media or photojournalism). An outside elective will draw on the resources of other departments and programs and will be related to students' professional capstone projects. In lieu of a thesis, their professional Master’s project will be completed under the supervision of an assigned faculty member. Long-form journalism proposals may include a film or radio documentary; a creative non-fiction or investigative series for magazine, newspaper or online publication; a publisher-ready book proposal and first chapter; a photo-journalism exhibit; or a community-based media project. Students will follow a rigorous and methodical process of research planning and investigation to produce journalism of publication / broadcast quality. Proposals must meaningfully advance the public interest.  Students will also participate in a Master's workshop, as they move from the conceptualization and investigation phases to the project production phase. Statistics is a data-driven science about how numbers help us understand the world, predict future events, and analyze information.

In this program, you will take courses in statistics and probability, as well as theoretical and applied courses. Statisticians at the bachelor of science level are needed in industry, government, and academics (colleges, technical schools). The Bachelor of Science in Statistics is also a pathway to graduate studies, which can lead to a variety of skilled careers such as a statistician or data scientist.

The Faculty of Kinesiology offers programs rich in experiential learning that focus on health, community-based programming, exercise rehabilitation, and the business-side of sports and recreation. And the best part is that each class has real-world applications built right in!

Computing affects virtually everything. All industries, organizations, and activities are facilitated and enhanced by computing. Many big decisions in the world today are already being made by computers, from what appears on your social media feed, to what stocks get bought and sold, to self-driving cars and speech recognition phones. If you understand computing, you will be able to elevate your career to a higher level.

In our computer science programs, you will learn how to program computers for simple and complex tasks on the web, on mobile, in virtual reality, and in the cloud. You will learn how computers and computer systems work, from the basics of logic to the complexities of big data analytics. You will also learn about security and integrity of networked systems, and how algorithms are assisting (and in some cases, replacing) today’s decision makers.

Bachelor of Science in Computer Science and Math (combined major)
In this program, you will build strong mathematical skills in addition to your computer science knowledge. This is advantageous in academic, research, and industry research and development fields.

The department has particular strengths in the following general areas: political economy; Marxist and critical theory; political sociology; sociology of environment, development and sustainability; social justice; sociology of knowledge, science and technology; social science methodology and quantitative social research techniques; Canadian studies; social history; gender and women's studies; and rural sociology. As well, the department maintains a commitment to a strong interdisciplinary social science program which can draw on the resources of other departments and academic areas.

The department offers a graduate program leading to the MA degree in Sociology or in Social Studies. Successful applicants for entrance to the Master's program will be advised and supervised in their work by a committee of faculty.

Course based MA Program Description

• The program requires the completion of 30 credit hours in courses, including 9 credit hours of required cores courses.  The remaining courses (21 credit hours) are selected from two or more of the social sciences, or approved courses in graduate programs other than the social sciences. A Program Advisor is assigned to assist students in developing a program of courses.  The proposed program will be submitted to the Department's Graduate Program Committee for approval.

The Master of Public Policy (MPP) provides students with opportunities to conduct research and contribute to the study of public policy and the application of policy expertise in the real world. Students graduating from this program possess the research skills necessary to play integral roles in the civil service, research organizations and industry associations. Top students from this program may go on to doctoral programs in public policy.

Students can complete the pre-medicine requirements for the University of Saskatchewan MD Degree at the University of Regina. Students must complete a 4-year baccalaureate preparatory degree to be eligible to apply to the College of Medicine. As well, students will be required to write the MCAT for admission.  The most up-to-date requirements and notice of upcoming changes will be posted on the College of Medicine website at www.usask.ca/medicine.

Students looking to apply to medical schools other than the U of S are able to complete their pre-med requirements here, but should check the various medical schools for their particular admission requirements.  These students are welcome to consult with our advisors to ensure they get everything they need. Pre-medicine courses completed at the University of Regina can be used toward a variety of programs at the University of Regina.

The Department of Music’s MMus and MA degrees can lead to career opportunities in performance, education, library science, music publishing, media, and arts administration, among others. It also provides exciting potential for further studies at the doctoral level. Our programs promote study in areas as traditional or contemporary as you are, with individualized instruction, and excellent performance and rehearsal facilities. There is also ample opportunity to explore interdisciplinary studies with the other Media, Art, and Performance areas.

Master of Music (MMus) in Composition
This 30 credit hour program offers the opportunity for intensive individualized studies in Composition. Over four semesters, students create a portfolio of compositions for varying performance mediums, including one work of at least 12 minutes duration, accompanied by a written analytical commentary. All students also take graduate courses in critical theory in the fine arts, and in research techniques specific to music.

The Bachelor of Applied Science in Software Systems Engineering from the University of Regina in Saskatchewan prepares you to develop software solutions from concept to completion.

Because this software systems engineering bachelor degree is accredited by the Canadian Engineering Accreditation Board (CEAB), you graduate fully qualified to register with provincial/territorial engineering associations – the first step toward being a professional engineer!

U of R’s bachelor’s degree in software systems engineering features dedicated software development labs. These are available only to software systems engineering students so that you have access to the equipment you need to build critical skills.
