The Department of Computer Science offers programs of study involving interdepartmental, multi-institutional and inter-institutional collaboration that has attracted faculty members and graduate students from all over the world. Students may pursue full-time or part-time graduate study leading towards the MSc and PhD degrees.

The MSc and PhD degrees in Computer Science focus on four main areas of research: artificial intelligence; databases and information retrieval; graphics, image and audio processing; multimedia, and software engineering. Specifically, active research topics conducted by faculty members include, but are not limited to:

• Data mining, knowledge discovery and machine learning, Bayesian networks, rough set theory, uncertainty management, quantitative and temporal reasoning
• Graphical modeling and rendering algorithms, animation, image and signal processing, facial recognition, computational music and audio, information visualization, human computer interaction
• Information retrieval, cognitive informatics, Web intelligence and service, electronic commerce, database theory, and information theory and its applications in communications
• Language-based software security, data security, agent-oriented software engineering, software reuse, formal methods, and distance education
• Algorithm design and analysis, theory of computing, computational geometry, graph theory

MSc (Thesis Route)
The Master's thesis route requires students to pursue research supported by the Department of Computer Science. A fully qualified student may complete a Master's thesis route by undertaking 15 credits of coursework as well as 15 credits of thesis research together with the thesis defense. Two non-credit CS seminar presentations are also required.

Do you like to explore questions related to human existence? Do you enjoy debating the meaning of life? Philosophy asks many questions and encourages us to scrutinize the everyday assumptions that shape our lives. As a philosophy student, you will study classic philosophers such as Aristotle and Plato and will explore the influential and world-changing ideas of Descartes, Marx, and Rousseau. You will learn to challenge and question the world we live in, learn to reevaluate the everyday and theorize about different belief systems.

The Master of Education degree in Educational Leadership (EDL) is designed to serve the needs of practicing school administrators, and for those who wish to prepare for a career in educational administration.

The Department of Geology offers graduate work leading to the MSc degree. Areas of specialization include quaternary and soil studies; geochemical, igneous, metamorphic, and structural studies of the Canadian Shield; Phanerozoic carbonate, clastic, and evaporite studies; and coal, petroleum, mineralization, geothermometry and fluid inclusion studies, isotope, and uranium, studies. Resources are available for particular western regional projects. Close co-operation with the Saskatchewan Industry and Resources gives excellent opportunity for field work in the Shield and for access to sedimentary cores and data relating to the Phanerozoic rocks of Saskatchewan. The Saskatchewan Geological Society provides a pool of highly qualified personnel from which the department draws strength. On campus, staff and students of the department work in co-operation with the Energy Research Unit.
 

This concentration within the Bachelor of Arts, Media, Art and Performance Major, is designed for students interested in curatorial work. Students take specific Art History courses as well as selected Media, Art, and Performance courses. This program was developed to meet the demand of students and graduates for more training in this area.

What is Environmental Systems Engineering?
Our Environmental Systems Engineering (EVSE) program is very popular with students and respected by industry, largely because of its timely combination of environmental concerns and the systems approach to addressing civil and industrial environmental issues. Areas of study include environmental system design and impact and risk assessment.

Our Program
The Environmental Systems Engineering (EVSE) program demonstrates and applies systems engineering principles to environmental issues associated with water resources, air pollution, transportation, industrial development, and waste management.

The professional Master's option in Journalism is a 30 credit program to be completed over three semesters. It is not an academic track degree; rather it is designed to develop students' capacity for advanced journalistic investigation. Candidates will take a suite of core courses in the theory, history and methods of journalism as well as two advanced specialization options (in print, magazine, broadcast, documentary, international media, alternative media or photojournalism). An outside elective will draw on the resources of other departments and programs and will be related to students' professional capstone projects. In lieu of a thesis, their professional Master’s project will be completed under the supervision of an assigned faculty member. Long-form journalism proposals may include a film or radio documentary; a creative non-fiction or investigative series for magazine, newspaper or online publication; a publisher-ready book proposal and first chapter; a photo-journalism exhibit; or a community-based media project. Students will follow a rigorous and methodical process of research planning and investigation to produce journalism of publication / broadcast quality. Proposals must meaningfully advance the public interest.  Students will also participate in a Master's workshop, as they move from the conceptualization and investigation phases to the project production phase. Start small and walk before you run with the Diploma of Business Administration (DipBA). The DipBA is a two-year program that provides an overview of all areas of business administration, and courses completed in the DipBA can be used towards the course requirements for the four-year BBA if you decide to transition into a degree.

The Petroleum Systems Engineering program in the Faculty of Engineering offers graduate programs focused on conducting research in the areas of enhanced oil recovery (EOR), reservoir modeling and simulation, heavy oil recovery through SAGD and VAPEX processes, miscible and immiscible displacement, fluid-rock interactions, and underground storage of carbon dioxide in depleted or partially-depleted hydrocarbon reservoirs. These graduate programs lead to masters and doctoral degrees.

Many big decisions in the world today are already being made by computers, from what appears on your social media feed, to what stocks get bought and sold, to self-driving cars and speech recognition phones. If you understand computing, you will be able to elevate your career to a higher level.

Diploma in Computer Science
This two-year program (60 credit hours) is designed for professionals seeking to upgrade in areas related to computer science. Courses are offered at times convenient to off-campus students, as well as in the traditional day slots.
