The University of Regina Department of English is a medium-sized department offering courses and research opportunities in most areas of English, American, and Canadian literatures. The size of its student body ensures that students have ample opportunity for intellectual discussion with their peers, but also the close contact with faculty members that larger institutions are unable to provide. The Department currently offers three routes for the MA in English: course-based, Creative Writing, and thesis-based. The course MA (ten courses) provides an opportunity to achieve a breadth of knowledge in many areas of English literature. The thesis MA (five courses plus thesis) provides an opportunity to do in-depth research, and an extended piece of writing, on one area of English literature. The Master's degree is normally the highest offered in the Department of English at the University of Regina, and affords the Department the opportunity for close support of Master’s students and high-priority supervision of Master's theses Both the thesis and course MA offer students excellent preparation for graduate studies at the doctoral level, or for jobs and careers in English. The Department of English is offering an MA in Creative Writing: this degree consists of five courses (in Creative Writing and English Literature/Theory), and a creative thesis with a critical/theoretical introduction.

The Department of Music’s MMus and MA degrees can lead to career opportunities in performance, education, library science, music publishing, media, and arts administration, among others. It also provides exciting potential for further studies at the doctoral level. Our programs promote study in areas as traditional or contemporary as you are, with individualized instruction, and excellent performance and rehearsal facilities. There is also ample opportunity to explore interdisciplinary studies with the other Media, Art, and Performance areas.

Master of Music (MMus) in Performance - (Orchestral Instruments)
This 30 credit hour program offers advanced studies in the above areas of specialization, as well as directed studies in the repertoire of the student’s instrument. Students study solo repertoire, participate in chamber ensembles, and undertake leadership roles in the ensemble most relevant to them (orchestra, concert band, wind ensemble, concert choir, or chamber choir). This program includes the performance of two full-length recitals. All students also take graduate courses in critical theory in the fine arts, and in research techniques specific to music. Graduate students in Performance participate in workshops with internationally renowned guest artists and are encouraged to perform in competitions at the national and international levels.

Visual arts covers a broad range of two- and three-dimensional media such as sculpture, painting, ceramics and printmaking, among others. You will work alongside professors and instructors who themselves are curators, artists, researchers and critics and are active in the Canadian art community and beyond.

Showcase your work at the Fifth Parallel Gallery on campus or at Regina's renowned Mackenzie Art Gallery. Advance your skill, with professors and fellow students acting as mentors and study the theory and history of your medium and the greats who came before.

The Master of Fine Arts (MFA) in Media Production is a 42 credit hour program designed for advanced studies in Media Arts Production. Students can work in dramatic, documentary, animation and experimental cinema and media, through a range of artistic, aesthetic, technical, and theoretical approaches. Courses offer a combination of general and specialized study in Film and Media Arts production. An intensive investigation of critical issues in Film and Media Arts theory will develop the student’s abilities in cultural and artistic discourse at an advanced level and will contribute to the shaping of sophisticated and versatile graduates from this program.

The Department of History offers graduate work leading to the MA degree. With the approval of the department, MA candidates may undertake research in the areas of Canadian/the Americas, or Europe/World. The resources of the University and Legislative Libraries, the City of Regina Archives, the University of Regina Archives, and the Saskatchewan Archives Board are of particular value to researchers working in the field of Western Canadian History.

The Department of History also offers a Special Case PhD in History. The Special Case PhD may be taken only in fields in which the department has the strength and depth to offer the requisite supervision based upon the specialized knowledge of faculty members.

The Resource and Environmental Studies program introduces students to resource and environmental legislation, resource management, contemporary environmental issues and environmental and community health and explores how these topics affect Indigenous peoples, cultures and histories.

The Bachelor of Arts in Resource and Environmental Studies is a joint program with Saskatchewan Polytechnic, Woodland Campus and First Nations University of Canada. Completion of the Saskatchewan Polytechnic, Prince Albert Campus, Resource and Environmental Law Diploma or Saskatchewan Polytechnic’s Integrated Resource Management Diploma is required for admission to this program.

The MA program in French and Francophone Intercultural Studies is designed for students interested in literature, language, translation, linguistics, terminology, applied linguistics, gender and cultural studies, and the history of ideas. The program covers French, Quebec, French-Canadian and postcolonial French literatures. For French-Canadian studies, collaboration with the Institut français, the Department of History, Women's Studies and the Canadian Plains Research Center (CPRC) and other units makes possible linguistic and cultural studies of French communities in Western Canada.

The professional Master's option in Journalism is a 30 credit program to be completed over three semesters. It is not an academic track degree; rather it is designed to develop students' capacity for advanced journalistic investigation. Candidates will take a suite of core courses in the theory, history and methods of journalism as well as two advanced specialization options (in print, magazine, broadcast, documentary, international media, alternative media or photojournalism). An outside elective will draw on the resources of other departments and programs and will be related to students' professional capstone projects. In lieu of a thesis, their professional Master’s project will be completed under the supervision of an assigned faculty member. Long-form journalism proposals may include a film or radio documentary; a creative non-fiction or investigative series for magazine, newspaper or online publication; a publisher-ready book proposal and first chapter; a photo-journalism exhibit; or a community-based media project. Students will follow a rigorous and methodical process of research planning and investigation to produce journalism of publication / broadcast quality. Proposals must meaningfully advance the public interest.  Students will also participate in a Master's workshop, as they move from the conceptualization and investigation phases to the project production phase. The Levene Master of Administration in Leadership (M. Admin. Leadership) is a 30 credit hour program and can be completed in two years if taken full-time. The Levene M.Admin Leadership will apply your management style to theory to lead employees effectively and strategically. You will expand your expertise in strategy, governance and leadership through courses focused on organizational design, continuous learning and conflict resolution.

Co-operative Education Program
For students who are entering the Master of Administration in Leadership program in their early career with limited professional experience, Co-op work placements offer an opportunity to apply principles learned in class in a working environment.  Co-op students also gain valuable workplace experience proven to add value to the classroom experience for themselves and other students.  The Co-op route also provides an opportunity for early career MAdmin students to secure management level jobs that they might not otherwise have access to. Students must have completed at least four classes, have no failing grades, and normally obtained a minimum CGPA of 75% before applying for co-op.
