The Master of Education degree in Educational Leadership (EDL) is designed to serve the needs of practicing school administrators, and for those who wish to prepare for a career in educational administration.

Process Systems Engineering (PSEng) is a broad category of engineering that deals with the process design for the purpose of converting raw goods to usable end products, including energy. Process engineering looks at the entire process from Point A, which is a raw material, to Point Z, which is the desired end product. It does not necessarily deal with acquiring the raw base material, although knowledge of its acquisition is part of the U of R’s systems approach to teaching and research.

The Department is engaged in a broad range of research in pure and applied mathematics and statistics, and offers programs leading to the MSc, and PhD degrees in mathematics or statistics. The MSc degrees normally requires two years of study, and students may chose either a course-based option or a thesis option for the research component of the degree.

The PhD program is an advanced, research-oriented course of study for which an original contribution to knowledge in the form of a dissertation is to be written and defended. The PhD program involves course work, comprehensive examinations, seminars, original research, and the defence of the dissertation.

This 30 credit hour program is designed for advanced studies in music theory. The first 15 credit hours are devoted to honing students’ critical writing and thinking skills, through courses in bibliography and research techniques specific to music, specialized music theory seminars, and directed reading courses in the area of the student’s research interests. All students also take graduate courses in critical theory in the fine arts. The remainder of the program is devoted to writing a thesis on an original topic chosen by students in consultation with their supervisor. Current areas of faculty expertise are broad and include tonal and post-tonal analysis, music of the Renaissance and Baroque periods, opera of the 18th and 19th centuries, music in Canada, the Lied, contemporary classical music, and interdisciplinary topics such as soundscapes and sound art.

The Faculty of Social Work is committed to a graduate education program that will enhance the quality of individual and community well being.  Our focus is with the development of advanced social work intervention methods as well as with broader aspects and issues of service delivery, professional leadership, social policy analysis, and social welfare research.

Students may select major areas of study such as: social policy, social justice and human rights, direct practice, community development and research.  The MSW program provides an option to complete the program with a thesis or a practicum.

Fundamental to the program is an emphasis on integrative analysis as a means of understanding the manner in which social research, direct social work practice, social policy development, and social administration are interrelated.
Candidates may be enrolled on either a full time or part time basis. Students must maintain candidacy. No more than two semesters may elapse before a student is required to register. Students have a maximum of five years to complete the thesis program and six years to complete the practicum program.

This is a 30 credit hour (10 courses) diploma offered by Faculty of Media, Art, & Performance. It will enable students with no previous film training to gain a diploma in film production within one year.

Students will take courses in narrative modes of film production, technical aspects and media theory. The admission requirements are the same as those for the Faculty of MAP, but students must also have either a Bachelor's degree in a field other than Film Production, or 90 credit hours in any other discipline.

The professional Master's option in Journalism is a 30 credit program to be completed over three semesters. It is not an academic track degree; rather it is designed to develop students' capacity for advanced journalistic investigation. Candidates will take a suite of core courses in the theory, history and methods of journalism as well as two advanced specialization options (in print, magazine, broadcast, documentary, international media, alternative media or photojournalism). An outside elective will draw on the resources of other departments and programs and will be related to students' professional capstone projects. In lieu of a thesis, their professional Master’s project will be completed under the supervision of an assigned faculty member. Long-form journalism proposals may include a film or radio documentary; a creative non-fiction or investigative series for magazine, newspaper or online publication; a publisher-ready book proposal and first chapter; a photo-journalism exhibit; or a community-based media project. Students will follow a rigorous and methodical process of research planning and investigation to produce journalism of publication / broadcast quality. Proposals must meaningfully advance the public interest.  Students will also participate in a Master's workshop, as they move from the conceptualization and investigation phases to the project production phase. Do you enjoy uncovering a story? Are you always asking "why"? Our School of Journalism is recognized nationally and is the only Bachelor of Journalism in Western Canada. You will study the history of journalism, media convergence and ownership trends, as well as Aboriginal issues in journalism.

Learn newspaper and magazine writing, television and radio news and documentary production, digital editing and desktop and Internet publishing. You will be encouraged to challenge conventional wisdom and develop your own writing style. Students spend a semester on an internship in a radio, television, newspaper, magazine or Internet newsroom.

To begin this degree you will need to register in the Faculty of Arts as a Pre-Journalism student. Entrance into the School of Journalism is competitive and happens after 2nd year (60 credit hours) is complete.
