Planners balance science, aesthetics and community interests in the planning of healthy urban, rural and regional communities and environments. They work with community members, developers and elected officials to create places that optimize the use or preservation of society’s environmental, economic, social, cultural aesthetic, and infrastructure assets.

What you will learn
You will learn about the challenges of managing urbanization in a variety of contexts and about the latest innovations in planning policy and design. Some of the topics you’ll study include: land-use planning that integrates modern technologies, active transportation and transportation infrastructure, climate change solutions, energy conservation, protecting water supplies, and caring for natural areas. You will learn about community engagement, policy analysis and government processes, economics, planning and development law, geomatics, and conflict resolution.

Psychology is the study of behaviour and mental processes, and their relation to one’s physical state, mental state, and external environment. With the complexity of our modern world, psychologists play an increasingly important role in helping people.

What you will learn
You will discover how your brain works, study the latest methods of diagnosing and treating mental illness and learn about human development. You will study a variety of subjects including social psychology, personality, child development, human neuropsychology, memory, the psychology of language and abnormal psychology

Through innovative programming, integrated on-campus and field study opportunities, and the support of experienced and caring faculty, you will be prepared to succeed from the first day of classes through to graduation.

What you will learn
The Bachelor of Education program is designed for future educators wanting to teach students in a variety of educational institutions, including K to 12 schools. You will specialize in two teaching areas to concentrate your expertise in specific subjects.

Program options
The Bachelor of Education degree is offered by the College of Education. You have two options when completing this program:

• Bachelor of Education (B.Ed.) - Early/Middle Years Program
• Bachelor of Education (B.Ed.) - Secondary Program

Secondary
If you want to teach students in Grades 9 through 12, choose the Secondary level. You will specialize in two teaching areas to concentrate your expertise in specific high school subjects.

As part of your Education degree, you will choose two teaching areas in which to specialize. These subject areas are closely aligned with Saskatchewan pre-Kindergarten to Grade 12 curriculum areas:

Environmental engineers apply science and engineering principles to protect and improve public health and the environment, including our air, water and land.

What you will learn

• We’ve redesigned first-year engineering at USask to help you succeed and make engineering more fun. We call the new first year RE-ENGINEERED. It’s the only program of its kind in Canada. It will get you excited and inspired about engineering. 
• In RE-ENGINEERED, instead of high-stakes exams, you will do more assignments and quizzes so you can improve your mark if you stumble early. Daily tutorials are part of the schedule so you can get help when you need it. And instead of final exams, you will explore the different branches of engineering in hands-on courses.
• You will choose your engineering specialty – known as your major, or discipline – at the end of your first year. This is the area you will study in-depth in your upper-years classes.

Discover your true potential as a musician, teacher, composer or music theorist. Develop your abilities with individual private lessons in applied study on piano, voice, brass, winds, strings or percussion with nationally and internationally trained instructors.

What you will learn
You will study performance, composition, music theory, history and literature. You will develop advanced skills with applied study in piano, voice, brass, winds, strings or percussion. You will examine the history of music which will provide you with a rich perspective into music, composers’ lives and their contributions to musical traditions, styles, genres and forms of composition.

Discover unique traces of life from millions of years ago and follow the evolution of species from the depths of geologic time.

What you will learn
Your studies will focus on the fossil record of ancient organisms and their living descendants. You will learn to analyse the distribution and function of fossil animals and plants, reconstructing their evolutionary paths. Such evolutionary relationships are then tied to environmental data to reconstruct  the fossil species way of life. You will learn about human, plant and animal diversity, morphology and history.

Biomedical neuroscience is the study of molecular and cellular neuroscience, systems and sensory neuroscience, behavioural and cognitive neuroscience, neurophysiology and neuroanatomy.

What you will learn
This program includes education in many of the major topics in neuroscience. This program includes necessary prerequisite courses for life science professional schools (e.g. medicine, dentistry, pharmacy, nutrition, veterinary medicine, etc.). While this program focuses on neuroscience, it prepares students for graduate studies in many areas of the life sciences.

Statistics is the science of learning from data. Statisticians can analyze and draw practical conclusions from data and provide crucial guidance in determining what information is reliable and which predictions can be trusted. Many economic, social, political, and military decisions cannot be made without statistical techniques.

What you will learn
You will study principles of experimental design and methods for data collection, analysis and interpretation.

Geology is the study of the Earth, from the highest mountains to the core. Geology examines phenomena such as earthquakes, volcanoes, glaciers, mountains, shorelines, minerals, mantle convection, Earth's magnetic field, plate tectonics, the evolution of life through time, and global climate change and its impact on the past and future development of the Earth.

What you will learn
Investigate episodes of ancient and modern environmental catastrophes, examine chemical and isotopic signatures in rocks to trace the natural processes that have shaped Earth and participate in the discovery of new energy and mineral resources. You will study Earth’s evolution and gain a better understanding of the physical, chemical and biological processes that affect the development of Earth.

In Linguistics you gain a better understanding of the function of language in society and develop the skills essential for exciting careers in language pathology/audiology, language teaching, speech recognition and artificial intelligence, forensics, translation, interpretation, publishing and many others.

What you will learn
You will learn how language functions in the lives of individuals, groups, and societies. You will study the basic nature of human language such as speech sounds, characteristics of word and sentence structure, geographical and historical variation of languages and dialects. You will learn about the cognitive aspects of language in child language development, language processing, language learning, writing, and reading.
