If you're successful in your application to the BA + Master's program in English, you'll receive two conditional offers of admission:

• One to undergraduate studies (BA) in English
• One to graduate studies (master's) in your undergraduate program.

This means that if you decide to continue your studies at the graduate level, you don’t need to apply to the master's program at Laurier, because you’ve already received a conditional offer of admission. You will begin your master's program after you graduate from your BA degree program.

BA - English
We offer you a chance to explore language and narrative in print and electronic media. Our vibrant program allows you to develop your critical reading, analytical and writing skills in preparation for working in a globally connected world. You'll learn the practice of effective communication and other keys to professional success in careers as diverse as education, law, politics, and public relations. Our innovative classrooms emphasize active learning in small group settings where you'll study literary and film texts drawn from the breadth of English-speaking cultures.

The Bachelor of Science (BSc) in Psychology program at our Waterloo campus is structured to ensure that you are exposed to the breadth of content that exists within the natural, life and social science areas of psychology, while permitting sufficient flexibility for you to pursue your own particular interests within these areas.

WHAT IS PSYCHOLOGY?
Psychology involves the scientific study of behaviour and experience, including thinking, feeling and action. We study psychology to learn about human behaviour, including: individual variations in sensation, how languages are learned, and why some people crave narcotics.

ABOUT THE BACHELOR OF SCIENCE IN PSYCHOLOGY
The Bachelor of Science (BSc) in Psychology program at our Waterloo campus is structured to ensure that you are exposed to the breadth of content that exists within the natural, life and social science areas of psychology, while permitting sufficient flexibility for you to pursue your own particular interests within these areas.

In our Bachelor of Science (BSc) in Honours Science program, you have the opportunity to solidify and pursue your scientific interests before committing to a specific major — or you can decide not to major at all and graduate with an extensive science degree.

Either way, you'll be prepared for future studies in professional or academic science-related fields. You have the flexibility to choose courses that interest you in order to tailor your degree to your career aspirations or postgraduate plans.

Choose to take courses in biology, chemistry, mathematics, physics, statistics and/or psychology, all while developing a myriad of research, analytic and technical skills.

Apply what you learn in hands-on labs and engage in research activities as part of a directed study or undergraduate thesis project. At Laurier, you can immerse yourself in cutting-edge research alongside faculty members at the undergraduate level.

The Bachelor of Arts (BA) in Computer Science lets you combine technical training with learning in another area, typically from the Faculty of Arts. It’s an opportunity to give yourself an edge in career markets where employers often seek people who can analyze and communicate effectively as well as code.

Your first-year courses in Computer Science and Math will give you a solid understanding of the basic principles of computer science while your Arts courses will let you explore your complementary interests.

Laurier's Computer Science program exposes you to not just the software, but also to the hardware that underlies the system, giving you a fundamental understanding of digital systems and microprocessors, and an appreciation for the interaction between the hardware and the software.

While exposure to high school computer science is useful, the first-year Computer Science courses at Laurier provide you with the necessary background.

Chemistry touches every aspect of our lives. The study of the complex molecular world, a world that exists at the submicroscopic level, is a discipline of enormous scope.

Bachelor of Science (BSc) in Chemistry at Laurier, you will have the opportunity to work with professors who are both devoted to teaching and active in research. The broad chemical principles learned are the basis of many of today's unique products, providing a foundation for a variety of career options.

Classroom and laboratory time are balanced to provide you with solid theoretical foundations and mastery of experimental techniques. Also, the small size of the department means there are plenty of opportunities to interact with faculty. 

WHY PSYCHOLOGY?

By studying psychology, your insights into human behaviour will prepare you for many career options in social service agencies, human services or health.

The Bachelor of Arts (BA) in Psychology program provides you with a liberal arts education that includes broad exposure to the major sub-fields of psychology along with some training in research methodology and statistics. The program is designed to provide you with the analytical skills and information useful for a broad range of career options.

In addition to the BA in Psychology, we offer a Bachelor of Science in Psychology, which focuses more on the structures, functions, and workings of the brain and its interaction with our bodies and environment.

ABOUT THE BACHELOR OF ARTS IN PSYCHOLOGY

The BA in Psychology program at our Waterloo campus is structured to ensure that you are exposed to the breadth of content that exists within the discipline, while still permitting sufficient flexibility for you to pursue your own particular interests.

You'll come away with a solid understanding of the principles of human behaviour and be able to apply these principles in a responsible, engaged way.

We offer two different streams in our BA in Psychology degree and you will apply for these streams at the end of your second year:

Psychology stream: Offers you broad exposure to the major sub-fields of psychology, and prepares you for employment or graduate studies outside of psychology such as social work, teacher’s college, law school or speech language pathology.

Research specialist stream: Offers you training in research skills, along with considerable in-depth exposure to at least two of the sub-fields of psychology. You’ll also have the opportunity to complete an undergraduate thesis in your fourth year.

You can also add a Specialization in Community Psychology.

Bachelor of Science (BSc) in Computer Science will help you develop strong algorithm analysis and design skills in procedural, object-oriented and low-level languages, with an optional introduction to functional, parallel, and logical paradigms. 

In senior years, you will select courses in application areas ranging from internet computing to writing apps for mobile computing, from applied cryptography to quantum computing.

The renowned Lazaridis School of Business and Economics, is one of the first internationally accredited business schools in Canada (AACSB accreditation), where you’ll learn to work in teams tackling real-world problems that exist in society and in business. Our Bachelor of Business Administration (BBA) program is full time and direct entry, which means your business education begins on day one.

You'll build a solid foundation and become a well-rounded business graduate, as well as a specialist in your area of focus by choosing one of ten business concentrations:

ABOUT ENVIRONMENTAL SCIENCE AT LAURIER
In our Bachelor of Science (BSc) in Environmental Science program, you will learn and understand how concepts from biology, chemistry and geography can be integrated to explain the processes that affect the physical environment and how these processes influence the biotic performance, from individual organisms to whole ecosystems.

The Bachelor of Science (BSc) in Environmental Science will give you the skills needed to understand how to use analytical tools, including lab and field methods, to quantify and assess the physical and chemical properties of soil, water and air for assessing and monitoring populations of organisms.

You will develop a broad range of techniques that will allow you to identify and devise solutions to environmental problems caused by human activities. You will be able to communicate these issues to diverse audiences for a number of purposes, such as helping to restore ecosystems or advocating for environmental issues.

Students in Environmental Science take one mandatory field course, and have opportunities to take others through the Ontario Universities’ Program in Field Biology.

Faculty members hire students as research assistants to work help with studies in the lab and field.

HONOURS THESIS OPTION
Students completing an honours thesis will conduct a yearlong research project that includes data collection, analysis and write-up.

Examples of honours thesis topics include:

• "Relating intensity of forest fires to caribou herd depletion in the Northwest Territories"
• "Effects of climate change on frozen landscapes in the north"
• "Effects of atmospheric processes on the movement and fate of pollutants"
• "Identification and conservation of rare and threatened plant species"
