YORK UNIVERSITY – SCHOOL OF CONTINUING STUDIES
If a student is not meeting the IELTS requirement for a particular academic program at York University, he/she has an option to go for the Pathway Program. After completing the Pathway Program students can meet the credit requirements and continue at York University.

YU Bridge Program
The YU Bridge is a program offered by the English Language Institute at the School of Continuing Studies. Under this program students receive a conditional letter of acceptance to York University.

  • TERM 1:
    • It is an eight month long program which can be completed simultaneously along with the regular university program.
    • IELTS REQUIREMENTS:  Overall Score: 5.0. In order to fulfill this program criteria a student must score 5.0 band score in the writing module as well.
    • ACADEMIC REQUIREMENTS: 78-80%
    • Student will archive some credits as per based on his/her performance during the program.
  • TERM 2:
    • It is a four month long program which can be completed simultaneously along with the regular university program.

Pre – Destination York

This program has to be completed prior to the beginning of your academic course at York.

  • ACADEMIC REQUIREMENTS: As per the individual requirements of your desired program at YU.

Destination York
The Destination York program is an eight week long pathway program taken by students with low IELTS score in order to meet the requirements of their degree at York. This program has to be completed prior to the beginning of your academic course at York.

  • ACADEMIC REQUIREMENTS: As per the individual requirements of your desired program at YU.

In AMPD's Department of Cinema and Media Arts students experientially learn to understand, think and work in the language of the moving image across all media. From idea to screenplay, camera to screen, screen to critical inquiry, our integrated curriculum offers exceptional training across the spectrum.

The BFA in Production offers a comprehensive curriculum in all aspects of filmmaking. Courses in the creative crafts of cinematography, editing and sound are offered alongside studies in the concepts and practices of screenwriting, directing and producing. Students work in a full range of digital and film formats, utilizing industry-standard production and post-production facilities, to produce work of fully professional calibre.

The program combines in-depth technical instruction with a strong emphasis on the creative aspects of film as a medium of storytelling, social engagement, and self-expression.

Small classes, ranging from 25 students in first year to 10 – 15 students in third and fourth year, allow for strong mentoring by the department's internationally recognized faculty.

The rich Cinema and Media Studies component included in the BFA in Production gives students an edge, developing their ability to not only make moving images but to think, talk and write about cinema and other screen-based media, and to understand the historical and theoretical framework in which they are produced.

What You’ll Learn

We offer BA and BSc degrees – both providing you with the same computer science and math expertise. In the BA program, you’ll complement your studies with courses from the Liberal Arts (e.g., humanities, social sciences). In the BSc program, the complementary courses will be in the sciences (e.g., biology, chemistry, physics). A degree Minor or Double major will allow you to just sample or deeply explore another discipline.

You may also choose one of our three International Honours degrees – iBA, iBSc or the Dual Specialized degree. Using the theories and methods of anthropology we explore how people in the world are subjected to, participate in and contest the processes of living in a world that is interconnected by new and powerful economic, cultural and technological forces.

Our program is ranked in the top 100 Anthropology programs in the world, and top 10 in Canada, according to QS Rankings, 2021. With 17 faculty members and five affiliates, we are one of the largest socio-cultural Anthropology departments in Canada. York's Music program provides an uncommon opportunity to explore the depth and breadth of the art form through a remarkably flexible curriculum that enables students to pursue creative and scholarly work across a wide range of musical genres and traditions, tailored to each individual's unique talents and aspirations.

York's Music program is known for pioneering post-secondary studies in jazz, world, classical and digital music. Students may specialize or generalize according to their interests, developing expertise in a particular area of vocal or instrumental performance or composition, or working in a variety of musical practices and cultural forms. Options include solo, small and large ensemble performance; composition and arranging; education and community arts development; ethnomusicology; and the growing field of musoc media production for cinema, gaming and motion media.

All first-year Music students enter the BFA program. After first year, students whose interests centre on music history, criticism and scholarly research may choose to move to the BA program.

Crime, criminality, and criminal justice are central concerns in contemporary Canadian society. In politics, law, policy and popular culture, the problem of crime and what to do about it command increasing attention and interest. The Criminology program will provide you with an exceptional opportunity to pursue study in this evolving and expanding field. You will explore the ways in which concepts of crime, criminality and criminal justice have developed over time. You will also investigate how crime is understood legally, politically, economically and culturally.
