The B.Des. Programme begins with the common foundation programme for all disciplines.

The first year is a Common Foundation across different streams of design that enables you to acquire the requisite basics before embarking on three years of more specialised design education programme. Hands-on skill courses like Design drawing and Workshop skills like material manipulations, including working on a variety of materials like Wood, Bamboo, Sheet metal, Aluminium, and others form an integral part of the course curriculum.

Learn basic design theory, thorough grounding in elements of form, colour, and aesthetics besides the important sensitisation courses like Environmental Perception and History of Design that aim to give you a complete understanding and perspective of Design as a whole.
Apart from these regular inputs, you also get to learn basic computer skills, photography, printing basics, and presentations. Get introduced to critical thinking, culture studies, and communication that give you an edge in your chosen profession. Basics on Leadership courses along with inputs on Entrepreneurship prepare you for a fulfilling career ahead. We encourage you to write blogs, keep a journal, maintain a sketch book to develop deeper interest and insight in the subject.

Students of the Institute of Design organise and participate in various festivals and events that establish a strong foundation in life skills like  organisation, collaboration, and team work.

PhD programme at JKLU offers intensive education in Engineering and Management to help students realise their academic goals and pursue professions of their choice. Research in interdisciplinary areas in academics and exploration of innovative industrial practices during the programme offer an environment of scholarship and collaborative learning to students. Developing new perspectives of analysis and interpretation through critical examination and sound judgement open new realms of innovation and research for them.

M.Tech. in Automation and Robotics at JKLU prepares graduates in the field who will be able to:

• Conceive, design, implement and manage automation systems by using principles of physical computing, control, and automation, mechatronics, and robotics, robotic process automation, artificial intelligence, and state-of-the-art components and tools.
• Serve in the fields of industrial automation, robotics, systems engineering, IT and engineering services, education, research, etc.

Mechanical Engineering is one of the primordial branches of engineering. The programme incorporates courses from the area of design, manufacturing, and thermal. To remain in sync with the industry, the programme offers compulsory core courses, department electives, interdisciplinary courses, open electives, and practice schools for industrial training. The associated laboratory work and projects provide an opportunity for hands-on experience and a better understanding of the course. Project-based learning is adopted, where students are encouraged to innovate and work on a project while learning the course. On completion of the four year degree programme, students get equipped with a solid foundation in core mechanical engineering disciplines, critical thinking, and problem-solving skills. Through this academic programme, students also develop excellent written and oral communication skills, learn to work as a team, and get ready to serve the industry and society worldwide.

Mechanical Engineering is one of the oldest branches of engineering that has evolved over the years with the modernisation of technologies. To fulfil the emerging trends in mechanical engineering, many new concentrations have been added to our curriculum like Automation and Robotics. In the current era, almost all the mechanical systems like cars, air conditions, refrigerator, etc. are amalgamated with electronics and electronic devices to make the process automatic. We have come up with this unique concentration where the students of mechanical engineering can learn both the fields of engineering. Robots are deployed in industries to make human life easy and convenient. The automation and robots in industries are capable of accomplishing tasks which could otherwise be hazardous for humans. To fulfil this need of time, we have incorporated a curriculum in electro-mechanical subjects to the concentration in automation and robotics.

B.Tech. in Electronics and Communication Engineering programme at JKLU provides fundamental knowledge of the basic concepts and theories of analysis, systems implementation, operation, production, and maintenance of the various applications in the field of Electronics and Communication Engineering. This programme aims to develop Electronics and Communication Engineers who are able to leverage cutting edge technologies to lead organisations through their digital transformation.
The concentration in digital systems enables students to design digital systems using various design models and implement these for various applications in space communication, consumer electronics, medical devices, process control, and automation industry. Automobile designers are professionals who work on the visual appearance or aesthetics of a vehicle. They are also involved in the creation of new products that suit the needs of car segments for which the design is being catered. Automobile Design and Engineering is a course offered in combination with electrical, electronics, safety, and software engineering. It is highly productive for those who want to work in automotive development and manufacturing companies. Skills required include an artistic bent of mind along with knowledge of interiors and colour designing. An aspirant should also have technical expertise in ergonomics, vehicle body part design, and design software.
