One can also define it as the science of eye equipment (including lenses and spectacles) which is imbued with the idea of improving the vision of the human eye and remove all kinds of obstacles of sight which an individual may experience. This is a dynamic and challenging career, which allows one to help people, achieve personal growth, community respect, job flexibility and financial success and offers virtually unlimited opportunities. The program is envisaged to develop a multipurpose ophthalmic manpower at paramedical level. The training enables a student to become a competent person in providing service as an Optician, Optometrist, Refractionist and Ophthalmic Assistant to the community in urban, semi-urban and rural settings in private, semi-Governmental and Governmental sectors.

Physiotherapists are trained professionals working in health care. They are trained to restore mobility, alleviate pain and suffering and work to prevent permanent disability in patients. Mechanisation and sedentary life style is the cause of many health related problems and injuries. People often encounter musculo-skeletal problems including backache, stiff shoulders, osteoarthritis, neck pain, etc. To alleviate pain, physiotherapists play an immense role in rehabilitation and thereby improving patient outcome. Therefore, physiotherapists maximise mobility and advance quality of life thereby adding life to years.

Bachelor of Physiotherapy BPT provides a rich breadth of educational experience along with essentials required for healthcare in the country. The course incorporates problem based approach enabling students in identifying, discussing and analysing the patient case from an individualistic perspective. The learning curve of the course is further enhanced by undergoing a mandatory rotating internship program where students can put in practice what they have learnt from the course on patient under the guidance and supervision of competent teachers. The PhD programme in Electronics and Communication Engineering (ECE) is a research-based programme. The research can be in any of the broad areas in ECE. The core strength of the institute is currently in the following core areas: signal/speech /image processing, VLSI and embedded systems, robotics, and communications. The mian emphasis of this programme is on a thesis. Work towards the thesis requires a good understanding the state of art in an area, problem formulation, original contributions based on analysis with sufficient mathematical rigour and validation. The research is expected to be of sufficient quality to be publishable in leading international journals and top conferences pertaining to an area of research. This programme has a limited amount of course work that can be completed in one year. The course work is aimed at providing a student with sufficient breadth and to carry out research. The main emphasis is on the research work leading to a thesis. Typically students decide on their research area and faculty advisor within the first year while doing course work.

Mathematics is at the root of many social, technical, medical, and environmental issues faced by society today. The USS mathematical department equips its students with deep understanding of math principles, a toolbox for applying those skills to real-world problems, and the ability to express complex ideas in a way that laypeople can understand.

The Mathematical department provides a solid collegiate math education to every USS student but continues its offerings to include high-level specializations such as statistical forecasting, digital encryption, and mathematical modeling.
