As a Musical Theatre student at ARU, you’ll train with industry professionals, take part in showcases and productions from Year 1, and gain real-world experience.

On our BA (Hons) Musical Theatre degree you will gain skills unique to musical theatre training, specifically actor-musicianship, physical theatre, dance and choreography.

Your tutors will include established musical directors, artistic directors and choreographers – and you’ll learn in professional facilities including our Mumford Theatre.

With a buzzing creative scene, and opportunities to perform in renowned local venues, Cambridge is the perfect place to study Musical Theatre. You can even choose to study abroad for a semester, with funding on offer to help cover the cost.

In your first year as a Musical Theatre student we’ll work on a small-scale musical, before tackling a full-scale book musical as your second year begins.

Next comes an Industry Project on an intense four- to five-week schedule, led by a professional director and our resident Musical Director. This gives you a real-world, authentic experience of industry practice in musical theatre production. We’ll also support you to learn through work-based projects, internships or placements. You can even take an optional placement year.

Our Musical Theatre degree features four productions and two skills showcases. You’ll learn advanced audition techniques and produce your own showreel. Alongside this, you’ll gain confidence, emotional resilience, and the ability to work as part of a team.

Our Applied Positive Psychology degree course is taught via blended learning, a mixture of both distance learning and face-to-face delivery in Cambridge and France. In France, teaching takes place approximately 40 minutes from the centre of Paris by train, giving you the advantage of cheaper accommodation as well as the chance to make a quick visit to the capital. In Cambridge, teaching takes place at our East Road campus, where you’ll also have access to the psychology laboratories in our Science Centre.

You’ll complete four intensive week-long modules, followed by online research methods teaching and supervision for your major project. In-between modules you’ll undertake self-directed study.

By choosing to study BSc (Hons) Sport Coaching and Physical Education at ARU, you’ll be choosing an applied course that is embedded in real-life experiences and focused on getting you career-ready.

Our degree course is packed with opportunities to complete work placements in local schools and sports clubs. Moreover, you'll have the chance to gain unique work experience with organisations such as Living Sport and Cambridge City Council, who run community sports projects for young people from disadvantaged backgrounds. Together, we’ll explore sport development, applied coaching pedagogy (how people teach and learn), athlete development, sport physiology and the psychology of sport coaching. Biomedical science is the field that underpins modern medicine. It’s always changing and developing, so it’s an exciting and rewarding subject to study. We’ll begin by studying general biology, human anatomy and physiology, microbiology and cellular and molecular biology. Then we turn our attention to modern diagnostic techniques, and learn about biomedical disciplines including haematology and transfusion science, clinical biochemistry, cellular pathology, medical genetics, medical microbiology and clinical immunology.

Develop your skills in major areas of biomedical science, including molecular cell biology, biomedical genetics and specialised topics in medical diagnostics. You'll focus on rapidly-evolving research into the applications of bioscience in healthcare whilst working in our impressive Cambridge Science Centre laboratories.

Throughout our course you'll develop advanced knowledge and skills in the diverse areas of applied bioscience, emphasising on medical applications You'll also develop a comprehensive understanding of advanced analytical techniques. Upon completion of your Masters, you'll be able to confidently design, execute and critically analyse both independent and group based scientific research in an appropriate area of applied bioscience.

You'll be immersed in an environment that mirrors a modern laboratory setting and benefit from the expertise of our Biomedical Science team and their intimate knowledge and collaborations within the field of bioscience.

The state-of-the art facilities in our new Science Centre include specialist tissue culture and microbiology laboratories, as well as general teaching and research labs. We have a wide range of specialist laboratory equipment which you will use in practicals and your projects. We maintain strong links to a number of hospitals within the NHS, and related industries within the East of England.

Our course is suitable for those who wish to specialise in the current medical applications of bioscience such as molecular and cell biology as a progression from a relevant first degree, as well as students with a strong background in ‘traditional’ analytical science (chemistry or biology).

Critical and contextual studies will connect your own research and writing to your practice and will guide you to specialist resources in our campus library. Explore hundreds of photographers’ monographs and access technical and contextual texts, as well as other online resources, to underpin and expand your practice.

You can expand your skillset, with additional technical workshops including printmaking, 3D work and writing workshops. You can choose to take part in photography field trips too, and experience photographing different locations such as Venice and Prague.

While studying BA (Hons) Photography with us, you’ll learn to adopt a professional approach to your work, covering aspects of career management such as rights issues, project management and self-promotion through social media. You can choose to take up work placements that will help you establish your own professional network, including opportunities such as working for magazines, galleries and photographers. As a BEng (Hons) Computer Networks student at ARU, you’ll begin by studying the fundamentals of computer systems including computer architecture and computer networks. In parallel you will learn how to use Python to perform network automation and server administration. You’ll then move to learn the principles of software programming, enhance your mathematical skills and recognise the cyber threats that organisations, and their infrastructures face.

Our standalone network specialist labs will give you the freedom to experiment with building complex networks. You’ll have the chance to learn how to install and configure hardware, operating systems and software, as well as to investigate how organisations visualise security operations and identify potential network threats.

Our labs are equipped with tools such as Cisco Packet Tracer, Python, GNS3 and Kali Linux among other different operating systems. Not only that, our students have access to NETLAB, a remote network and security lab that can be accessed from anywhere at any time, and will allow you to carry on your practical work from the comfort of your own home.

When you graduate, you can apply for a certification at Associate (CCNA) and Professional levels (CCNP) with Cisco Systems, the leading manufacturer of networking equipment. As a Cisco alumnus, you can be eligible to a voucher discount for these certification exams.

This course gives you the opportunity to take a work placement year during your studies. It’s a great opportunity to build up experience and make industry contacts to benefit your studies and enhance your long-term career prospects.

Explore professional writing techniques and learn to write compelling narratives whether you want to write poetry, drama, short fiction, news, features, or something else. You’ll improve your writing skills with invaluable feedback from professional writers, and workshops with your fellow students.

You’ll also find out how English literature is shaped by its historical and cultural context, and how, in turn, it influences individual readers and the whole of society. You’ll also learn about many other subjects, including history, politics, religion, psychology and history of art, which will enrich your writing. Your deeper understanding of literary texts will improve your abilities as a writer.

You can tailor your Writing and English Literature degree to your ideal career with our wide range of optional modules, including work-based modules in Years 2 and 3. We’ll support you to find work placements relevant to your chosen career. You can also take an optional placement year.
